Strength:

EVERYTHING: Clarity, detailed, transparent sound revealing all pros/cons of the recording. What a perfect speaker should be.

Weakness:

None

My system includes:

- Yamaha 2095 amp/receiver
- Sunfire CG drives the tops of my NHT 2.9s mains; and rear NHT VT-2S
- 2 SA-3s biamping my bottoms of the NHT 2.9s
- NHT 500W Subtwo
- NHT Audio Center 2
- Sony 900es 200 Cd changer

Yes, I am diehard NHT. Everything, I mean everything about these speakers scream the word PERFORMANCE. Clarity and transparency are nothing short of perfect, and combined with my equipment upstream, I have found the right combination. The warm sound compliments the NHTs very well. I may of over done it in some peoples minds, but I have reached musical extasy in the best way! Theatre is great too, but lets be real, these are MUSIC speakers!

5+ stars in the best way. For the dollar......., I would give these 10 stars. These blow away much more expensive speakers out there. I am referring to both VT-2S AND 2.9S.

Strength:

Excellent for combined music and HT use.

Weakness:

Require good amplification to sound great. Transparent so bad recordings will sound bad.

I was looking for a set of speakers which would do 50% music and 50% HT. When I heard the VT2, I knew this is it! With music only performance approaching that of the well acclaimed NHT 2.9, it has an open soundstage, good detail, plenty of tight, non boomy bass. I A/B the 2.9 and VT2, and decided the VT2 has about 80% of the performance of the 2.9.

I bought a system that includes the VT2, VS2a, HDP2. Amps are Chiro C200 and C300(not well known but sounded better than most similarly priced Acurus, Adcom or Parasound amps). This system rocks! Bass can be felt, pictures near the speakers rattle when the speakers are played loud. And this is with no subwoofers. Vocals are crystal clear even with lots of sound effects in the background.

What is the difference between the VT2 and VT2.4? I checked the NHT web site and did not see the VT2 in their product list. I went to some stores and did not see VT2 either. Is VT2 simply a different name for VT2.4?

Strength:

Excellent dynamics.

Weakness:

Can be boomy in too-small rooms.

I auditioned speakers for three years and the VT-2's ended up at the top of my list for performance/value. I have a Lexicon DC-1 with 7.1 capability and have bought four VT-2's for L/R and the rears, and VS-2a's for the center and sides.

I listened to Von Schweikert VR-3's and VR-4's; B&W 802's,
803's, 804's; Aerial Acoustics 8's and 10's; Dunlavy SC-1's, SC-3's,SC-4's; Martin Logan SL-3's; Magnepan 3.5R's; Thiel 1.5's, 2 2's, 2.3's, 3.6's; NHT 2.5i's, 2.9's, 1.5's, 3.3's; Vandersteen 2CE's; and a few more. Of all of the above, the Dunlavy's came the closest to the sound qualitys that attract me to the NHT sound.

I have probably heard the VT-2's in more listening rooms in more stores than anyone else on the internet (too much business travel). I have heard them sound a little too boomy but that was a small room and the speakers were toed-in (the only time I have ever seen them toed-in), I have also heard them in another small room and they were
excellent. The room acoustics can make a lot of difference.
The best that I have ever heard them was in large rooms.

Absolutely the best for home theater dynamics and big-band dynamics that I have heard in this price range.

After being impressed with the NHT SubTwo (see review) to play the lower Hz's with my Martin Logan SL-3's (mains), Logas (center), and Scripts (rears) in my front room stereo via HT, I wanted to test out NHT full range speakers for my bedroom. Knowing nothing about NHT before my purchase of the NHT SwoTwo, I asked several friends and salesman, with studying web sites (including this site) and brochures, and finally testing or hearing several NHTproducts, I bought the NHT VT-2 for the following reasons: (1) the most talked about NHT speaker product was the NHT 2.9, but it had its woofers playing inwardly, and I needed the woofers to point outwardly due to my bedroom funiture and wall space. (2) the VT-3 was too much money for a back up speaker and Martin Logans speakers is were I want to spend the "Big Bucks". (3) the NHT 1.4 also had a good price per sound ratio but lack fine detail. (4) the NHT 1.5 sounded HORRIBLE and lacked bass. (5) the newer NHT VT series all had tweeters and woofers in the back and I would be placing the VT-2 nine to twelve inches away from the back wall.
I tested the NHT VT-2 at YAWA in Walnut CA with several CD's and they pass the spacing and Hz range response. Plus I was offered a great deal and the NHT VT-2 are no longer being made. I bought a new pair and took them home with the following statements: (1) NHT has a werid way of packing, they always tape up the front cover where when taking the speaker out of the box, you may damage the cover. The same thing happen when I bought the NHT SubTwo's. (2) I disconnected and placed my Martin Logan SL-3's against a far wall and pluged in the NHT VT-2's to some Monster Cable 2.2 Bi-wired speakers wires via an Aragon 8008BB dual mono 200 watt 8 ohm amp via Harmonic Techology 2 metered balanced Silway via Audio Research LS-16 tubed pre-amp via Harmonic Techology 1 metered balance Silway via Sony XA7ES CD player. At first I was very upset with the box like quality of sound, and lack of sound stage. But after a hour the sound cleared up and the sound stage started coiming into focus. Then when I walked down the hall way, I could not hear the NHT VT-2 clearly because the Martin Logan SL-3 play both front and back via a screen, rather then the tweeters and woofers pointing one way like the NHT VT-2's. Later I played "Brave Heart" DVD with the Video switich down thru a Theta Casa Nova surround sound pre-amp and the bass started to come thru. Over all I am pleased once the NHT VT-2 started to come round, but they are not as clear as my Martin Logans, but then again the Martin Logans are in another class and maybe should be compared to the NHT VT-3's. Or I had my Martin Logans for 2 years and I am used to the way the electric stacks sound and going back to tweeters and woofers now sound not as clear to me (the reviewer before me may not understand what Martin Loagns are made to do: claity of highs with a fast but not boomy bass. They can play Rock-N-Rool "IF" driven with a good amp). The NHT VT-2's are a good buy for my bedroom and may make many very happy with their sound per price value. Thanks NHT

Strength:

The NHT's shake the foundation of my house on the outside of without being too boomy on the inside. I use them mostly for their incredible DVD soundtrack reproduction. For the money I believe they are the best audio for better than theater-like sounds.

Weakness:

Are somewhat boomy in smaller rooms but just reduce the base levels on your equalizer or on the variable control NHT coverup Carver amp that came with the speaker and they sould great. Bi-amping them is the only way to go because chances are your receiver doesn't have the power to run the speaker to its fullest potential. I bi-amped mine and have about 125 watts to the sub and 70 to the uppers but it could still use about 125 to the uppers as well.

Great speakers for the buck but get somebody to help you move them into your house because they are heavy.

Nothing on par. This is my first real digital sound system. My other system was a low-mid Infinity system with an NHT 10" subwoofer. Sounded decent but pretty well dwarfed by the VT-2s.

The road to NHT was rocky, fun and and also frustrating. The end result: AWESOME. My system sports 2 NHTs, AUDIO Center 2, 2 VS-2as, MX 70 sub (it will be replaced by the new NHT sub for tonal matching), powered by the spectacular Yamaha 2095 in the 4 Ohm setting, connected with Audioquest Cobalt (bi-wired), Midnight and F-18 cables. 2 channel stereo is absolute in its quality, 5.1 is an experience in reality sound, I feel, cannot be surpassed at any reasonable cost. What a wonderful find...

I'm wondering if anyone else has the NHT VT 1.2's, VS 1.2's and the the Super Ones. I don't see very many reviews for these speakers. I consider them very very good, if not outstanding. I must agree with most of the other NHT owners these jewels are very power hungry. Can anyone recommend an amp or recevier that can drive four VT 1.2's, two for the front and two for the surrounds. I'm presently using a Onkyo 838 AC3 receiver.
Five stars, the sound is sweet.
