Strength:

Detail, clarity, imaging, cost

Weakness:

Slightly boomy bass. Would biamping help this?

All I can say is I love these speakers. Yes, they are my first pair of really good speakers. No, I haven't compared them side by side with more expensive high end speakers. But, I think they sound great. In general I would say that these are bright speakers. I am driving them with a Marantz PM7000 integrated, which is said to be a "warmer" sounding amp. That's probably a good combination. What I get in the end is a very clear, detailed sound. The highs and mids are sweet, not too harsh, and very clear. The bass is impressive given that it's just an 8" woofer. It does get to be a little boomy at times. Imaging is good - so good in fact that I still get spooked by it periodically. I bought these for the combination of audiophile-quality performance combined with the Home Theater ambiance when you throw the switch. To tell the truth, however, I've never bothered hooking them up with my home theater. Not worth the effort. These are too beautiful where they stand. Strength:

Detail, A/V switch to activate rear woofer and tweeter, strong bass

Weakness:

Placement can be tough, especially near corners

After listening to these in my home for a week and a half I can absolutely classify them as being on the bright side. In the show room they sounded just fine, but after hearing them for 2-4 hour listening sessions of both CD and DVD I had enough. I've heard brighter speakers before, but they were just too much for me. If you like this type of sound though, they are detailed and dynamic. Also, if you're putting these near a corner they probably won't work for you. The side firing woofer made the bass too boomy in my small room. The bipolar switch did enhance watching DVDs, but not enough for me to tell anyone to buy them for that feature. For the MSRP of $1200 I would not call these a good value, but for somewhere around half price they seem like an excellent buy... if you the bright, sharp sound appeals to you. NOTE: my ratings are based on MSRP

Strength:

clarity up to high levels, takes loads of amp power comfortably, compact size, can fit anywhere

Weakness:

audio video switch produces only minor improvements

have sampled several speaker systems and for my application, these vt1.4's just can't be beat! needs power to produce... in my opinion you can't have too much for these speakers! you also need quality components to get that perfect sound.

Strength:

clarity of sound and price/performance

Weakness:

clarity of sound (I know this was a strength, but let me explain - it you listen to remastered audio, these are fabulous. If you listen to scratchy records on an Aiwa receiver, these will sound crappy - it''s all up to your source material).

This is a really nice speaker The combination of the VT-1.4 with the VS-1.4 for the center and surrounds is really quite exceptional for Home Theater. I compared this to other systems costing up to $2500 from Polk, Klipsh, Bose, and Infinity, and these were by far the best. I''ve been hearing things in my recordings now that I never knew were there.

I am just picking up this expensive hobby. I audited the NHT vt2.4 and loved it and purchased it. Now I am trying to buy a pair of surround speakers for my vt2.4s. Would NHT vt1.4 be a good choice for that? I am using Denon 3802 as the receiver. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Strength:

Good sounding speakers. Built in subwoofer going down to 33hz. Sound is clear and it is a pleasure to watch movies using these speakers.

Weakness:

BIG weakness with these speakers is that they are not properly magnetically shielded.

Speakers definitely sound better than the Bose Accoustimass 6 or NHT Super Ones. Overall this is a good buy.

The major flaw with these speakers is that they cause distortion in your TV picture. Due to inadequate magnetic shielding, if you make these speakers stand next to your TV say about a 2 feet apart, you will see a significant distortion with your TV image. I understand that only the top part of the speaker is shielded and not the subwoofer part. This is a major drawback especially since these speakers belong to the Audio Visual series. Suggestions from other users would be welcome. Also if the company corrected this flaw and ships me a replacement that would help.

I am using a Technic receiver and a Panasonic DVD player if that helps anyone.

Strength:

Soundstage, Nice warm highs and mids, Lots of bass

Weakness:

Too loud for my apartment (if that is a weakness)

I had Purchased the Super Ones for my apartment Replacing my Infinity Deltas because with my Yamaha 795a Reciever they were way too bright and fatiging. The Super Ones were better but still a little bright for my taste and not full enough - (however they still sounded fantastic). So after 3 weeks I returned them for credit and literaly sampled every speaker they had. I didn't test the 1.4s at 1st because they were not in the price range I was looking at, and too big for my apartment - well I almost decided on these PSBs (not sure what model) and jumped out of my price range so thought I would then try the 1.4s. I loved them! They were so much warmer than the Super Ones and Super Twos. The Imaging is great and speaker is very full, Bass is low and loud. They are a bit big for my apartment, but plan on keeping the speakers longer than the apartment. When I do move I plan on using a sub amp to power the sub woofers instead of a seperate powered sub.

Strength:

Great warm sound, bang for buck

Weakness:

none really

I have had the please of owning these speakers for roughly 9 months and saw the lack of reviews on here, and feel it is a shame. NHT has made a fantastic speaker here and only 8 people have reviewed it. I am running it with a Denon 3801 and absolutely love the warm, rich sound from these speakers. My use is probably 65/35 Movies:Music, but these work fantastic for both. Denon's 5ch stereo along with these (and their VS1.4 counterparts) make a system that people will say "wow" to. At least thats the compliments I've had from guests who have visited my home theater. If you buy them, you won't be sorry.

Strength:

Clean, detailed, warm sound. Full range of sound. Sleek styling.

Weakness:

none so far

This is my first pair of serious speakers. I am glad I made the right choice. The 1.4s produces very clean, crystal clear sound, more on the warm side. When I think of the serious speakers, I immediate came to NHT. I think they produce very decent speakers, while price is still acceptable (to me, $900 for a pair of speakers is a lot of $$). I am sure it will last for some time. And should not out grow my need (um...well who knows, but at least I should be happy for quite some time). I also have the VS1.4 as center. Also good. The rear I chose the smaller Super Zero Xu, as I am doing ceiling mount, and the VS1.4 is just too big for my family room. I am driving the speakers with Denon 3802 in case you are considering the same combination, great great sound. Go audit these speakers.

Strength:

Versatile for Movies and Music. Excellent Black Sleek design. Plenty of speakers from Highs-Mid-Lows. Sound great, very clear.

Weakness:

none

These are excellent speakers, I was very surprised about the sound. See I auditioned them in a warehouse, and given the circumstances the sound was good, but was not very filling. However, I decided to get them considering the great price. Once I hooked these speakers up, I was rekindled with my music. I mean I was really impressed at the clearity and smoothness of the speakers. The literally beat the B&W 601 speakers I was replacing. When I was out demo'ing speakers. I listened to the B&W CM4 and the NHT really put those away. I plan on getting an NHT Center Channel soon too. I still keep my B&W LM1's for the rear sound. They will do good for now.
