Strength:

Accuracy of response, clean, awesome bass

Weakness:

Break In Time

I have listened to a multitude of speakers during my years of listening to two-channel stereo. Hours spent at local hi-fi shops, trade shows including CES for two years, and various homes of friends led me to these speakers.

These speakers do everything great; two-channel, ambient, and home theatre. Three words: VALUE, VALUE, VALUE. They easily fill my living room, even at 20'x30' with 10' ceilings. I have yet to have a theatre experience outside of my home to match.

I am now trying to get my dumb son to buy the Silver 9's in lieu of some Martin Logans. . .BELIEVE IN THIS SPEAKER!

Strength:

Image/soundstage/smooth

Weakness:

when you first plug them in, you think oh well whats the fuss about

Well initially thought what is all the fuss about, but after about 20hrs so far, bi-wire them (definate) fill them with sand........sound something completly different than what I first hooked up, have read some poor reports on bass but to me they have ample down low.
I mainly listen to two channel and traded a pair of Infinity sm 120 , these M.A leave them for dead, and believe they will get better still.
Thanks to living sound centre brisbane for the trade and excellent advise.

Strength:

Wonderful sound stage, smooth highs and nice lows for a small speaker.

Weakness:

Slightly short in height and low freq over power mid bass

What a wonderful sounding speaker for the price! There is no fatigue when listening to these beautiful sounding speakers. Without removing the metal grill the speaker sounded very open and airy. Vocals filled my 20X20 room with a warm sound. The highs are crystal clear but I am hoping for more detail as the speaker gets broken in over time. The mid-bass is my favorite area to listen to for tightness and these speakers are fairly tight. I only have one complaint, the mid-bass gets drowned out by the deep lows of these speakers. These speakers had a special sound quality that makes you feel good when listening to good recording music. For Home theather use it is wonderful. They make you want to go out and buy the center channel and the surrounds. Will update with more accurate results as time goes... Great sound and feeling for under 1k

I am very impressed with these speakers. They are very crisp and clear when it comes to sound. I can hear instruments and detailed elements that I never noticed before. Highly recommended for the price. Very attractive finish.

Strength:

An 'honest' performer, with no audiophile aspirations but
extremely musical. For the price a bargain.

Weakness:

Not extremely accurate with Classical music, but still good for the price.

I am having these speakers at home for a period of time, while I am waiting for my new KEF's to arrive.

To give you some idea, I am coming from an audio environment where for the last 5 yrs. I was listening to music on big INFINITY kappa 8.1i with all the benefits these large speakers provide, especially at the bottom end.

They have gone (sold) and I ordered the KEF Ref.3/2.
While I am waiting for them, the dealer gave me these little MA's to listen to music.

So, having been 'spoiled' by the 'big' sound of the INFINITIES, I was expecting small presentation out of these little cuties, but I was totally wrong!
These small monitors, without going into extreme lengths to be over exciting or audiophile sounding, they manage to convey music in a cohesive and very realistic way, I guess you can call them extremely musical.
Some of my CD's that had been 'pulled apart' by the very revealing INFINITIES, to the point that they were not listenable (due to poor recording), were sounding quite good, so these speakers are great all rounders that will give you a lot of fun, if you are not extremelly concerned about accuracy.
I think they are a bargain at the price, with their best points being the presentation of voice and mids in general, and the overall moulding of the musical envelope.

I used them with
Audio Research LS-2 Pre amp.
Valve monoblock amps 100 w/ch
Rotel RHCD Mitchi CD player
LINN SONDEK LP 12 Deck
Biwired with Sumo cables and
a variety of interconnects.

Strength:

I have owned these speakers for over two years and have no regrets. They sound absolutely amazing on male and female vocals. The clarity is just better than you can imagine.

Weakness:

Although the base is very good for music, you really do
need a separate subwoofer for home theater. But most home theater lovers do have a separate subwoofer and when you add a separate subwoofer the sound for home theater is also incredible. Absolute clear sound for highs, mids, base, and
low frequency effects.

Some people claim these speakers are too short for floor standing speakers. I agree and think these speakers fall into the in between class. I have the 5's on matching 15 inch speaker stands. The look elegant this way and it brings the tweeter to ear level for an even better sound.
Some people claim these speakers are bright. I disagree with that statement, These speakers are simply accurately reproducing the very highest frequencies. This is what a good speaker should do. If you want your highest frequecies dampened, the adjust your treble on your receiver or pre/pro. I often listen to flute soloists and have not found these speakers " bright". I find them to be accurate.
These speakers are one of the best sounding speakers that you can buy at this price point (less than $1,000).With
a subwoofer to handle the very low frequencies, you will obyain exceptionally clear, clean and powerful sound for both music and home theater.

Strength:

good looks; small footprint; wife-tolerable

Weakness:

thin sound

I bought these speakers after auditioning them at the store and reading reviews here. Actually, they weren't
my first choice for sound and were a compromise between the
Klipsch RF-3 II's which were my first choice and the Bose
Acoustimass cubes which were my wife's, who basically wanted
NO speakers. For the price range
they sound basically weak. I'm familiar with the sales
pitch that they are "inefficient" by design and "more accurate" than the Klipsch, which all translates to me
as "punchless with no edge". I'm running them with a Yamaha HTR-5490 receiver so no shortage of power driving
them. As home theater speakers they sound fine, then again, anything sounds better than television built-ins.
I was disappointed that they didn't live up to the sound
of my 12-year-old $500 Boston's when i hooked them up, then
again, I get to keep them in public view.

Maybe they're perfect if you like listening to flute ensembles or something, but for alternative metal they come
up well short.
