Strength:

Amazing Vocals and soundstage

Weakness:

lows sometimes seems overpowering the highs (usually rock music)

They sound beautiful and produce a room filling sound. They really ought to be biwired. will do that next week. using OM-10 with a Yamaha RX V596 reciever. though not top of the line they sound excellent and are great value for money.

Gear:
OM-10
Yamaha Rx V596 reciever.

Sound and price

none

Well, now that there has been a price drop to $699 for the om10,i ran down and traded my omr2s and dished out the Extra $200 to trade up to one of the best sounding speakers on the market. The omr2s are great, but at $500 a pair, its worth upgrading to the om10s as rears. They use the same tweeter but with a bigger mid/woofer with superior bass handling compared with the omr2s. Also,i can now set my rears to large and give them lots of bass. Fantastic!

Strength:

Huge soundstage, midrange presence, accurate bass (with MIT Terminator 4 Biwire cables)

Weakness:

A little lacking in the highs

***Cables make a HUGE difference***

I was actually looking for a TV in May 1998 when I heard Diana Krall's "Only Trust Your Heart" on a midrange Marantz system coming through the OM-10s. Pulled out the plastic right away.

After bringing the speakers home, I was vaguely disappointed with the bass, so I went and bought the BPS-150 last summer to go along with the OM-10s. Still not satisfied, I went back and added MIT Terminator 6 cables a week later. WOW! The $200 CDN investment really brought out everything in the $1200 CDN speakers. Finally, last week I hooked the Terminator 6 to the BPS-150 and added MIT Terminator 4 Biwire for the OM-10s.

After two years, I have finally found the closest thing to ecstasy this side of a Proceed/Wilson combination costing north of $50,000 CDN.

Strength:

Huge Omnipolar Sound Stage, Nice on the ears to listen to

Weakness:

Needs a little more bottom end

I have had these babies for about 1 year now and I still can't seem to stop smiling when I pop a CD in and start listening. Couple it with my Denon AVP8000 preamp and the ATI1505 amp. Music sounds soooo natural and the mid range and highs are very clear and transparent what else would you ask for in a speaker. I could spend hours sitting on my couch listening without any fatigue to my ears. The best bang for the buck for speakers out there. Can't wait to add the OM-6 or 5 to my little oasis soon. Great job Mirage.

Strength:

Seductive Sound! Amazing natural EQ curve. Unbelievable Price! ($700)

Weakness:

Not a damn thing!

I've spent the last year visiting this site, and learning everything I could about all kinds of audio gear. Now its my turn to give some back.
I just got my OM-10 s! And My God! I never expected them to sound this great!
I love to hear detail in recordings. Especially reverbs and little backround noises. These Speakers Deliver them Wonderfully! They sound so good, it's like I bought all new stuff! I'm using a Yamaha 595 reciever and A sony 330 dvd (hooked up with monster digital coaxial). Now, i don't think i have have great stuff. (I don't think i have crap either). But these Speakers make my system sound like i spent 3X the money on it!
No Matter what I listen to ...Rock, Jazz or Classical... They always sound amazing! Rock usaully sucks through most speakers, but not these!
I payed $700 at Tweeter for them. wow! I'm also friends with some guys how work there. They all tell me if i'm happy now wait until they break in! Wooohoo! I love 'em! ...oh..and uh... I Highly Recomend them!!

Strength:

Clear high and midrange, airy, wide soundstage

Weakness:

Weak bass

Recently bought the Mirage OM-10 from a local store. In buying these speakers, I spent quite a bit of time comparing them to the Paradigm Mointors 7. It was tough comparing the two, but one difference that is obvious is the diffused quality of the sound from the OM-10s--due to its omnipolar design. The Paradigms were a bit on the harsh side (to my ears)--but honestly I would have been happy with them also. Frankly, the reason I bought the OM-10s over the Monitor 7s was because of the discount. I paid $700 for them vs. list price of $1200. The OM-10s are two-way speakers with two tweeters, two mid/woofers facing front and back. The speakers are tall--48 inches, trapedziodal (sp). As stated above, the sound is bright, airy and sounds quite realistic to me when I demoed the speakers with piano-only music. Bass is the weakest part. However, if you have a subwoofer, as I do, this won't be too much of a problem. The Hsu Research sub I have blends quite well with the OM-10s. My receiver is the Carver HR-722 (with the Magnetic Field Amplifier).

Strength:

high frequency dispersion, looks

Weakness:

low bass

I was updating my system because I was unhappy with my home theater sound. My Old AR-92's coupled with Cambridge Soundwork's best center channel speaker lacked clarity in the conversational tones and the high frequencies were beaming to a very narrow sweet spot. I listened to countless speaker brands and models including Klipsch, Polk, Boston, Bose, Cerwin, KLH, JBL. I was initially drawn to two speakers - the Klipsch RF-3 and the Mirage OM-7. I liked brightness of the Mirage line but was disappointed with the bass. The Klipsch generally covered the whole audio spectrum but not necessarily smooth over the whole range, I felt that male and female vocals did not have the same presence.

Then I examined the Mirage line more closely. I like the sound of the OM-5c's and was seriously considering them for $3.5k. However, on second listening, one of the sub's blew. I realized I liked them only because of their extended low frequecny and the surprising clarity of their twin 8" subs. I did a series of auditions ignoring the low frequencies entirely, reasoning that my Cambridge Soundworks powered sub and slave sub (about 400 watts) could put out all the bass I wanted. I found that OM-10's were not markedly different than the OM-5's or OM-7's. The high frequencies were well dispersed and the mid-range sound was clear and smooth. My biggest concern was that I would have to cross the subs over at such a high frequency taht I would lose some of my stereo imaging (my subs are located immediately to the left and 12 feet from the primary listening area). Knowing that I could return the speakers if I was unhappy with them, I opted to save my $'s for another day and try the OM-10's.

At home, the speakers sounded better than they did in the listening room. I bought demos, so they were already broken in. But the acoustics in my room (larger, irregularly shaped and more absorbent that the perfectly rectangular, hard auditioning room) took away some of the brightness. At the same time the corner location helped to raise the base presence. After a little fiddling I set my cross over at 80 Hz. The results were surprisingly good.

I don't think these speakers are good for everyone. Their placement will markedly affect their sound. They must be supplemented with a good sub. But under the proper circumstances, they are giant killers.

Strength:

Envelopment of Sound. Coool!!

Weakness:

Imaging of Music. You hear it. You feel it. But you don't see it. Turning it up I can hear it in another room like I could with Infinity powered RS-8.

Equip:
QTY (4) OM10b 900
HSU Research VTF 2 500
B&K 202 1500
Monster Cable Flat for rears, clear tube for fronts
I don't have a center yet. 60 -100
HDTV Fiber cables 70
Sony DVD player s360 Christmas
Sony Vega 36" 1st years model 1000 don't ask me how

I am happy with my systems. I got these speakers at HIFI Buys between 270 and 300 bucks a piece brand new.

What do they sould like?
They are quite nice. I like the look of the black on top as apose to the wood that comes with it now.

The B&K has 105 or 100 watts of power. I would love to go to the 307. Anyone have $4000 they don't need? I got the B&K for a sweet price $1495. This was the only piece used(floor model).

Clearity:
Very good. You do get separation of instruments with Jazz. Titanic CD I don't get the imaging that I got with Areal Accoustics (I did not like the voice on the Areals). I did not see the base drum getting hit. I bought a HSU Research Sub to take care of that. I sound really good.

I have Matix. It is not it DTS. Gladiator in DTS. It rocks!. I am missing the Center. In the stadium scene when they first enter the Rome Coliseum, I don't have the feeling of beeing there yet. I feel like I am close to the center of the Coliseum. I need the center to complete the setup. I need $750. My girlfriend was watching this with me. There was a background sounds in Gladiator. It scared here at one point. She was like "what was that?!?!?". I think she thought it was the boogie man. You have to love DTS. God that felt good. I will turn here over to the DTS side. Oooooohhhhhhhhh!

Final Destination (in DTS): There is a scene right after the car and the train. The sirens in the back ground. Wow! I thought the cops were coming to get me.

DTS Movies
Pitch Black
Jerasic Park
Twister - I just want to experience the Tornado Scenes.

If you look at price of the speakers. Great value for what I paid. Overall, I have high dollar tasts. But, I am not crazy or rich.

Strength:

Good at providing stereo sound in an imperfect room or chair position.

Weakness:

Weak Bass at times. Sound very vulnerable to speaker placement changes in the room.

These are a great value, and best used with either a home theater setup, or a area where multiple people want sereo from lots of varied locations in the room. I would not however consider them a critical listening speaker. For the money however, what's not to like?

They do need some power to drive, so I wouldn't try it with a reciever.

Definately need a sub.

My power source:

Two Parasound 800II bridged mono.
Carver CT-17 Pre-Amp.
Denon 370 Changer.
