The KG 3.5 is Klipsch's entry level floor standing model to the KG series. It has an 8 inch woofer and horn tweeter/midrange. These live up to Klipsch's reputation. They sound clear and are very dynamic. The bass is very good for a speaker of their size, and the price is right around $500-$600 street price. If you can afford the 4.5 or 5.5 models, I'm sure they perform even better. These speakers are great for home theater as well as music. I love the efficency (doesn't take much power to get these loud, you dont need a 120 watt amp, 40 to 80 watts will do nicely). These speakers are fast moving, and they have a lot of punch for rock to classical. Recommended.

Strength:

Efficiency & clarity

Weakness:

Value (I personally paid too much)

Some people don't agree with me, but I love my KG3.5's. Yes, they could use a little more depth in the low end, but sit them a little closer to a corner and they fill the room with clear, natural sound.

I bought mine in 1995 from HiFi Buys in Roswell, GA for $329.99 a piece. (Please don't tell anyone...)

They've been wonderful, and in fact I have auditioned others since then, but haven't found the clarity and presence that these have.

I recently went on a quest for a surround sound system. Due to the suggestions on this forum and some literature I picked up at the local Mom & Pop, I purchased a Sony STR-DB930 receiver ($399.99 @ J&R) and a pair of KSB2.1's ($87 ea. @ uBid.com) for the rear.

I am very happy so far! Man, do the 3.5's sound great on such a clean amp!

I have since ordered a magnetic shielding kit for the 3.5's and am considering a KSP-C6 for the center. (Probably overkill, but it's gotten some great reviews and I'd like to keep the tonal clarity of the horns all around.)

I give the 3.5's a 5 in their class, but a 4 because I overpaid...

Strength:

For a two-way and especially the size they pack a boom at the low end and nice crisp highs. I have the satin black cabinets - well built, great craftmenship.

Weakness:

Not a thing.

Looking at the boxes, you would think it was a larger speaker, but large in sound it is! I never been a fan of Klipsch, always thought it was a name thing (overrated). But listening is believing. Has a 8" bass that kicks and a that Klipsch horn that really carries the highs. I went from a JBL Surround Sound to the KG 3.5s and the Klipsch SC-1 center speaker and what a difference. I'm a DJ here in SA with Crown amps and Peavey speakers to produce that live sound and now I have it in my den for under $600. Thinking of picking up th Klipsch SS-1 surrounds to complete the package. The speaker is 33 1/2 by 10 1/4 by 11 1/2, a little package with a lot of performance. If you can pick up a pair at a round $300, you got a steal. Enjoy!

Crystal Clear Sound, Sensitive 94db

These speakers reproduce excellent sounds in the high HZ ranges; however, the quality of bass appeared to be lacking. Initially I was disappointed with the bass, until I was advised to place the speakers at an angle approximately one foot from the corner on each side of the wall. Once I changed the location, the bass came alive. Therefore, proper placement of these speakers is the key consideration for producing bass. Now I love these speakers!

Strength:

Good lows, and nice flat mid to highs

Weakness:

almost none

To be honest, I cannot speak to the absolute frequency response of these speakers. But I did compare these against others in the same price range at a local audio store. I started by listening to the $1000 plus each speakers, and then working down. These Klipsch speakers belong in the bottom of the high end category. Many people are buying the Bose Acustimass(?) series for home theater, but when you compare those against the Klipsch (in the $200 each range) there is no comparison, the Klipsch is much more natural. The only others that were comparible were some Polk Audio speakers of similar price, but the Klipsch horn gives very nice high ends.

Strength:

Great clarity, dynamics, and detail at all volume levels, any style of music - this is exactly how a good speaker should be, of course. Surprising bass considering 6.5 in drivers. Ah, engineering.

Weakness:

None whatsoever, considering price. If you want more real bass, you simply have to spend more money to get comparable fidelity with larger drivers and cabinet volume. Period.

Like I say above, great clarity, dynamics, and detail at all volume levels, any style of music - this is exactly how a good speaker should be, of course. Anyone who says they are harsh has been brainwashed into disliking the "horn sound" by all the dupes of the Establishment etc. It should be noted that Klipsch briefly horn-loaded a fabric dome tweeter; this is the system on these speakers. So, you get the best of both - the smoothness of the dome and the dynamics of the horn. Brilliant. I have no idea whose idea it was to switch away from this, but I have listened to newer comparable Klipsch products and they are just nowhwere. Finally, while the bass is obviously not that of larger drivers, the engineering is such that rather surprising bass still results. Depending on room, it can be quite impressive. In one house that had a crawl space, for example - visitors routinely swore I had a sub hidden somewhere. BTW, I don't know where the 8 in driver spec is coming from - mine is quite obviously a 6.5. I think there was a misprint in the product literature, though some people in this forum are claiming they are 8s - so maybe Klipsch upgraded at some point - though why they would change configuration and keep the same model number, I am not sure. A fool and his Klipsches are soon parted - so good luck finding some fool whose friends have all told him his speakers are too harsh, and snap up a pair.

Strength:

Solid Bass performance w/o a subwoofer. Crisp clean highs. An economic value.

Weakness:

Size

These speakers absolutely rock. Klipsch sure does know how to make some efficient speakers that can fill a decent sized room with sound. I have heard larger speakers that don't compare to these. I don't use a sub woofer with these speakers because with them there is little to be desired in the low end of the spectrum for music. I would suggest to add a subwoofer for a movie, but thats obvious.

If you can find a pair of these, just listen to them for movies AND music and I'm sure you'll like what you hear.

Strength:

Durable finish, nice grills, somewhat kidproof.

Weakness:

For $400 what can you expect?

So now that I have had them for a few months I feel I can now comment on them. I use them for my mains on my HT. They are workhorses and coupled with a subwoofer really add punch. I fell for the Ubid deal but am happy with my decision. I'm a novice to this stuff and one of the prior reviews was correct in that they are very good entry level speakers. We beginners are always tentative about spending the big bucks so we compromise. In comparison to similar speakers in this price range they are excellent. But this stuff is like a drug. When you start going to stores and listening to higher end speakers you start craving the higher quality and thus the circle begins.

clear highs amazing tight solid bass

Weakness:

ZIP !

I picked these up to use as rear channel speakers for HT. I had purchased a pair of Klipsch KSF 8.5 and was immediately sold on Klipsch speakers. So when I saw the 3.5 on ubid I thought what the heck they should be good for rear channel at a worst. Oh man now that I have them I almost feel I am wasting them as rear channels. These things are incredible really as good as the 8.5 and almost identical with the grills on. These are excellent speakers in their own right. THey come alive with all types of music and are just a pleaure to listen to and at the $89 apiece I paid for them or should I say stole them it makes them all the more enjoyable. Find them, buy them you will not be disappointed
