Strength:

Excellent frequency response. Very well built.

Weakness:

Price?- wouldn't we all be happier if we could get something this great for around $200? Size- These are BIG. They are a little hard to hide (especially in small places) but then again, if you want the frequency response of a 12' driver in your speakers the only other option is a side-firing woofer as in the AR Hi Res series.

I'd been shopping around for a nice set of speakers for quite a while when I took the time to check these puppies out. While they may not be quite the same as $50K/speaker monitors in a sound design studio , they sound incredible as far as home listening. It appears that a previous reviewer must have had a very poor setup or was mistakenly thinking about his BOSE system when he mentioned poor frequency response. My experience has been that the frequency response is incredible (things like that can be very hard not to notice when listening to things like Berlioz's Requiem). Whether listening to Beethoven's 7th, Sting or Van Halen these speakers are incredible! While these speakers are amazing for CD listening, they are incredible when it comes to home theater! Aside from their incredible sound, these speakers are very well constructed- from the cabinets to the oversized voice coils, these speakers are built to last through years of heavy abuse.

Strength:

Amazing stage presence, nice highs, and mids

Weakness:

Bass is a little lacking, but thats what subs are for

How can I explain this!!! I CAN"T... I got these puppies for under 200$ US, in New Jersey. And I whould have gladly paid its 900$ msrp. The sound is out of this world, I have been reading the reviews that some of you have posted, and I got to tell you guys, you should really upgrade your receivers... A Keenwood av209, will not give justice to these speakers, so please be somewhat kind to them... My current setup: Receiver: Harman Kardon avr 320 Speakers: Mains L/R -- JBL s-312 Center-- JBL s-center Rear and back surround-- JBL s-26 Monster cables all around TV: Sony wega flat screen, 27" ( next purchase will be a 53" projection tv) DVD Player: Sony DVP-S570D VCR: Sony slv81 Sony Remote Commander rm-av3000 Sony 5 cd changer: cdp-c245 Subwoofer: Sony 10" sub 120 watts (soon to be upgraded)

Strength:

Solid cabinet design, furniture quality finish. Very efficient Look great with the grills off.

Weakness:

very large, hard to place in a small room, sound (i agree) is uneven.(thats why I took a loss and sold them). a very mediocre sound.. better than a cheap set of speakers. but nowhere near audiophile quality. S312 owners quit deluding yourselves these are just slightly better than average for speakers in this price range. YES THEY ARE BETTER THAN ANY BOSE

I have to make a comment about these being "Junk" they certainly are not. They are definitely not an "Excellent" speaker. Good.. yes. I have to say the other reviews clain of the tweeters being to shrill. ACCURATE. The bas being overstated. I disagree. These really can be rated a five by those who couldnt afford to buy something better or just have a tin ear. Believe me there are better. I used these daily for about a year. at first i thought they werent broke in and thats why they sound like sh**. but they never got better with time. Spend the same or a little more and get something else. Boston, AR, Polk,or Wharfedales. All of which for about the same money sound worlds better. I currently use wharfedale emerald 97's that are in a whole nother league. and were 1/2 the price on U-bid

Strength:

Look very impressive without the grill on. Very efficient.. definitely dont need a sub-woofer. can handle lots of power. perfect for "Todays" sound. good sound stage.

Weakness:

uneven sound spectrum. for $100 ide rate them a 5 but at $400 a 3. There are better speakers for the same price.. even in the JBL line.

JBL (Junk but loud) These are good middle of the road speakers.Definitely not in the league of any monitor speaker. Lets be honest people...there is definitely nothing exceptional about these speakers that one can point out... except the size. the sound is uneven.. shrill highs and overstated bass. I dont know how anyone can comment on the midrange when you have these two factors competing against each other. They are very efficient however.. 40 watts will fill a room with sound. Probably a good speaker if you listen to all that hip hop or techno beat music. Very dissapointing sound if your a jazz debute.

Chessy speakers, but what do you expect for $600? I'm powering them with my boombox and they don't go that loud. I put in a classical CD and and it didn't sound like a concert hall.

Strength:

Sound

Weakness:

none

I’ve had these speakers for two years now, still very happy with them. Mid's are as nice as it gets. Highs are well handled. Bass is really nice, not too much, nor to little. The previous reviewer either had the hooked up to a cheap Sony receiver or has a problem with the entire line of Studio Series speakers. Sound stage is excellent; I don’t see how you can do any better than these at 2 or 3 times the price. by a Still powered vintage Kenwood KA-9100 amp, I’d buy them again.

Strength:

Rockin' Orange Speakers! These things cannot be mistaken for anything else.

Weakness:

Not bi-ampable, oh well.

I have owned my 312s about a year and a half now. I was happy with them from the get go. For you who are complaining about the size, did you not notice in the store that they were big, c'mon now?? People who like an even or 'flat' sound should enjoy these. Some people will complain that there is not enough bass or the titanium tweeters are too bright, but they suit me just fine. I plan to pick up the s-centerII soon and am debating between the s26II and Mirage's OMR2 for rears. Thanks all.
