Strength:

very varied. can handle all types of music with great care and depth. twiter is just amazing.

Weakness:

price i paid back in 2000 was infact fairly high. but here everything costs a bungle. but id pay it again gladly.. :)

iv had these speakers for quite some time. and i recently changed a few things in my system. i took home a pioneer elite 45 tx; and a asw b&w subwoofer [10 inch]. the jbl speakers seem to be of timeless ability. they put in the dark a lot of rather new and chic speakers. the small but rather wide sound spread coming from the twiter enables the music to fly across the room with ease and smoothness. with a sub or without, these speakers are something else, and almost anyone who listens to them is amazed by them. simply fantastic. if you can find a pare of these, dont ever sell them. they are Priceless.

Strength:

Nice mid-range and wide dispersion of treble. Very musical. Pleasant to listen to. Quite efficient.

Weakness:

No really deep bass (surprise, surprise). Not very high quality exterior finish materiel and grill cloth.

I never had any JBLs before and got these as a result of reading the very favorable AUDIO review of the 610s that these are the mini-tower version of...and the nice price, of course.

I have them hooked up to a 55 watt a side Onkyo 4500 stereo receiver and they sound very nice indeed in my office, even under less than ideal placement conditions. I really like the wide dispersion and clarity of the treble. They are fun to listen to. Not quite as bright as my Atoms, but more so than my Super Ones.

There is a little muddiness in the low bass (probably room placement related), so I have to keep the loudness contour off.

Overall, very nice speakers at the $180/pr. price. A screaming bargain, even.

JBL620's are getting hard to find. Out of 34 websites advertising audio equipment only 2 still had them. Got mine at Best Buy in Missoula for $120 each on clearance. Sorry, last pair there. Also got HLS610's there on clearance for 120/pair. Still a few left a week ago.

This is my first stereo with input/outputs so I don't have anything to compare it to. But I love it so far. JBL s-center, KLH 12" pwr sub(insulate it to improve the sound) Toshiba 3109 dvd player, Yamaha 5150 receiver. CZ36V61 Toshiba tv. Sears will match any internet price it can confirm. (plus shipping) Can't beat buying local. Smart move Sears.

Strength:

Solid Bass, great price, vibrant sounds, LOVE THE HORNS!

Weakness:

Grills/Speaker Cabinet

I practically stole these from Best Buy this weekend. $89/each with a 9 year warranty. I have these bad boys hooked up to 120 watts and they rock! The midbass/midrage sounds wonderful with the dual 6.5s and the horn tweet makes music sound more vibrant and improves the imaging. The soundstage with the 620s is awesome.

Just one note: Only try to use the HLS center channel with these speakers. I tried using both a high-end Polk and a middle-of-the-line Infinity and did not have good results. The 620s were much brighter and had more definition than the other centers (and consequently made the center sound like crap). I hunted down a HLS center channel on the net and finally had a good match.

As far as weaknesses go, the grills are ugly in my opinion and seem frail. The construction of the speaker cabinet seems a bit weak. The fiberboard seems a bit thin (especially when compared to higher-end speakers), but I can live with all this. The sound is awesome, and the price is even better... Would recommend to anybody with 100+ watts per channel... These guys aren't very efficient.

I recently purchased a pair of HLS620 from shop4.com in a cheap price. I am quite happy with the speakers. but it seems to me that this model has recently been discontinued.

After listening carefully to both the HLS 620's and 820's, I chose the 620's. Here's why: The base tones on the 820's are not really THAT much better. And the 820's tend to resonate a bit too much, thus losing the effect of realistic instrumentation. The midrange and highs on the 620's are actually crisper and clearer. I attribute that to the 6 1/2 inch speakers vs. the 820's 8 inch. To my ear, the 620's are also better than anything else in a comparably priced floorstanding, or for that matter bookshelf speaker. As they say, it's the box that produces the effect. Never more true than in the case of these 620's. Seriously, after listening to Infinity, Yamaha, Sony, and Polk - all within $300 of the price (I paid $200 ea.), the 620's are a superior sounding product.
One final note: I use an equalizer (Yamaha EQ70) with my system. For anyone on a budget, an equalizer makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD in reproducing realistic sound). Whatever you do, make sure you buy an equalizer. They cost less than $200, and man - can you create beautiful quality sound out of those 620's by selecting the tones YOU like to hear most. So, all tolled, for less than $600 I've got what sounds to me like $1200 worth of equipment. And that's no stretch. The sound is just incredible for the money.

I bought a pair of HLS 620 about 6 months ago for $250 + $40 (per pair) shipping from shopping.com. 1 month later it is selling for $299 per pair. However, I think it is still a great deal. Best Buy is selling at $399. This JBL speaker is great, produce good bass, moderate clarity. However, compare to Polk 400 , I think HLS 620 does a much better job with quality and the price that we pay. I have a HK AVR 75 to boost the speakers and it produce excellent bass with good clarity sound. HLS 620 is definite a good speaker to get. Compare to Polk Audio(Rt400, Rt600), Infinity (R5,R6) I definetely will pick HLS 620. However compare among the HLS series (HLS 615, HLS 620, HLS 820 : tower speakers). The HLS 620 produce the best all around sound. HLS 615 just do not have the power or ummmpp. HLS 820 produce too much bass and the clarity is well off .

I purchased a set of the HLS 620s from Consumer Direct for $279.pr and these are very good speakers. I had listened to the Infinity rs5 and a set of Yamaha with side firing 12" woofers and they didn't produce anymore bass than the JBL'sI think for the price the JBL's were just about impossible to beat. As some of the other reviews had said the HLS 820's just don't seem to have as tight a bass. They seem to resonate longer than the 620's.
Good job JBL in making a reasonably priced great speaker

I listened to every speaker I could find under $500 and finally settled on the 620s. I found that the 620s sounded cleaner than other speakers selling for much more. If your looking for alot of strong bass they may not be for you, but if your looking for a good speaker that wont break you give them a listen. These JBLs are proof that you don't have spend alot of money to have great sound.

Strength:

Good highs, good bass

Weakness:

no midrange

I have had these speakers for quite a while. They are powered by a h/k pa5800 amp, for the price they are the best sounding speakers I have come across. They are also very durable. They lived with me in a fraternity house for a while and held up perfectly.
