Strength:

Awesome efficiency. Crystal clear sound with sizzling mids and highs. All kinds of music sound very good.

Weakness:

Use a good high-current amp to tighten the bass up. If you aren't using a quality amp that can maintain good control of the drivers the bass may sound a little muddy.

To the gentleman who makes speakers and complained of the "styrofoam" tweeters.

As an engineer of speakers you should understand that the lightweight, styrofoam tweeter is part of the secret to Infinity's awesome efficiency. It combines the lightweight benefits of a paper cone with the strength and sonic accuracy of a high-end driver.

Some speaker designers improve efficiency by putting horns on their tweeters, despite the fact that this causes some serious sonic inaccuracies. Klipsch used to be notorious for this.

This, incidentally, is also why the other drivers are poly-propylene coated and not solid polypropylene. Paper efficiency, polypropylene accuracy. Infinity wouldn't compromise the accuracy of their loundspeakers even for the sake of efficiency, but with the SM series they didn't have to.

If you like your music loud and powerful then these are the speakers for you. If you want "high quality looking drivers" then you should look at any of other millions of typical speaker available..

The Infinity SM-125's are outstanding! i tried Bose speakers for a long time, going from there 301 bookshelf speakers all the way up to there 701 giants... and after listening to the SM-125's against the Bose 701 speakers, there was no comparason which was cleaner, warmer, louder... SM-125 gets my full recommendations to anyone serious about sound, and wants to spend under $1000. i also have the Infinity SM-85's. again nice sound, efficient, loud. not too much base response though, sounds like a dream when the SM-85's are teamed up with my Polk PSW-140 powered sub... Very Nice!!

Strength:

Very loud

These are the first speakers I ever bought and I still have them after 5 years. I have played them extremely loud back when I was in school. I had numerous noise violations and once knocked a whole bookshelf off my neighbors wall (apartment). I realize that these are not the best speakers in the world but for the money you can't get much better. I still enjoy an occasional bass thumping, floor shaking, ear bleading rendition of NIN Closer.
