I have owned these speakers for over 2 years now and just the other day I remembered why I bought them. I have run them on a HK AVR75 for a year and from a McIntosh system with 250 watt per channel amp for a year. I knew that I wanted LOUD when I bought these along with a speaker that had crisp sound. Well I got it! And after running these speakers close to there 200 Watt continuous peak level on many different occasions they still sound great. So, if you want loud, crisp, and efficient speaker that can handle punishment for a relatively small amount of money then you found them.

I picked a set of Infinity SM125's up from Damark for 369.00 shipped. I'm very happy with the sound quality you cant beat it for the $$$. The Speakers have Plenty of Bass and clear Highs which I love. I would recommend these to anyone as I've been shopping for a low budget speaker for over a month and am now happy with my purchase.

Strength:

Nice, round bass.Clean overall sound

Weakness:

Not very refined.Relatively poor soundstage when compared with a minimonitor speaker.

Nice speaker for the price if what you listen to is rock, hip-hop which require a fairly dinamic sound and a listenable bass presence. Not very detailed, so not optimally suited to classical or jazz.

If you have a decent amount of money to spend on speakers, don't buy these. But if you are budget conscious, buy these! These are no high end speaker or for people who want crystal clear sound. But every speaker has it's market and this speaker's market is for people who want lots of bass and loud loud music, and don't care that these speakers are huge. I got a pair for $250 after shipping and tax from Ubid. I think these are a great deal. The bass is loud and potent, if not a bit muddy. The midrange is decent for a speaker in this price range, and the tweeter is very clear, despite being styrofoam. The cones themselves don't look that impressive, really, compared to say, the overtures or the reference. But they rock when you add power and you really won't need that much of a sub unless you insist on hearing damage. I have a sub from my previous system I use that is 8" with 50w and it cannot compete so it handles the 10-20htz below what these speakers can do (job:shake walls-that's all-good sub, sit) If you want your system to kick rear in stereo, buy these. If you can afford better, buy it. But for the money, these arent too shabby.
4 stars for performance.
5 for value.
3 for appearance uggh
3 for not having the good reference tweeters grr

I'll be nice and give it a 4 overall.

These speakers hooked up to my Onkyo receiver souynd absolutely great. The 12 inch woofers provide great bass. These speakers have a very balanced, clear sound, they will stay the way as loud as you turn them up. And I can tell you from experience, they sound great at EXTRMELY loud volumes. In case you were wondering, I generally listen to rock, metal, and classic rock on these speakers.

I regret to differ from those who reviewed these pieces of trash before me, but these speakers are garbage. I am sending them back to DAMARK today, after receiving them yesterday. The drivers must have cost Infinity around $10 for the entire set. The tweeter cones are made of styrofoam!!! The woofers probably have a 1/2" voice coil and a 10 oz magnet. Whoops! I guess I'll have to eat the return shipping of $42. I used to design and build speaker enclosures around the drivers and I guess I am spoiled. After being poor for about 20 years, and now making a financial comeback, I have the means to begin practicing the art of speaker design once again. This time, I will buy Dynaudio drivers and the crossovers from "Parts-express.com" and build my own set, then buy a hefty tube amplifier to run em. If you like to build your own speaker systems, check this web site out. They have some excellent drivers for very reaonable prices. You can buy Dayton 12" woofers, with 90 oz magnets, and 3" voice coils for only $100. They carry a complete line of Dynaudio, Audax, and several other top-of the line raw drivers, and also crossovers.
I would not pay $10 for the SM 125 speakers - well, maybe I would for the enclosures, then I would remove the speakers, tear off the magnets and use them on my refrigorator as note holders.

Hard to beat for the money. Low-end response could be better. I use them with a Parasound HCA-600 which is connected to my PC, playing MP3s and doing sound editing with SoundForge, etc. To improve bass: place speakers in room corners and use a good power amp like Parasound, Rotel, etc. Excellent results for this application. I just bought this pair of SM-125's..It's just about 50 days old.. still have 5 years warranty on it.
I bought from a friend that have upgraded to Reference series..
I personally like the sound and quality of the speakers..

They lacked some bass.. which may be compensated with a small subwoofer..
I am planning to sell it because it is too huge.!! I live in a small room and I can't seem to enjoy the potential of this speakers.. I think it is good enough to support a basketball court.!!

I will part with reasonable price..

Strength:

Efficiency, distortion-free high volume, adjustibility

Weakness:

Bassy

Bought these speakers a while ago but have been very happy with them. They are not the Infinity "high end" but perform very well for the price (the reason I bought them - they were what I could afford at the time).

The high and midrange controls are very good at finely adjusting the sound coming from the Sherwood Newcastle AVP-9080 and Adcom GFA7500 which is usually not touched with the preamp bass or treble controls. BUT while I have the Infinity BU-150 subwoofer attached, there is a lot of bass coming from the SM-125's which I have to sometimes account for.

Being in a small apartment with my decent equipment, I can watch such movies as Saving Private Ryan (DTS version) and attract the neighborhood. These speakers can get very loud very fast and so far, have not started to break down and buzz. My ears start to resonate before these speakers do and this is a plus in my book.

When I attached them to my system I was able to hear things in my CDs I could not hear before and the sound was clear and sharp without being muddy or harsh. I am very pleased with this purchase. Didn't give them 5 stars because I HAVE heard better.
