Strength:

Great Looking, Solid Construction, Crisp highs due to the metal-dome tweeter, great sound, loud

Weakness:

A little bit of midrange warmth

These speakers sound great for movies. They create an unusual sense of dispersion which really opens up the field. I love these speakers. I primarily watch movies and that seems to be what these speakers are the best at.
I was running these guys off of a Yamaha RX-V2095 and they sounded great with plenty of power to handle the bass if I wished to turn off the sub (relax, I only did this to test the bass response of the BP-30's). When I switched to B&K Reference 220M's to power them, the performance really took off. Now, I really love this setup.

The same dispersion present in movies is also there for music unfortunately. I would rather have some non-bipole/dipole speakers if I was going to seriously listen to music.

Strength:

Honest, can be played loud, not tiresome, value.

Weakness:

Slightly dated appearance

I've owned a lot of speakers and listened to a lot of others and these are the best speakers that I've heard in this price range.

A little about me. I like speakers that project a large sound stage and bipolars do. I also own Polk SDAs. Some audiophiles consider these gimmicky (bipolars too), but stereo is a gimmick. In any case, no speaker truly represents what it is supposed to, some merely come closer than others. In my opinion these come close. Though I like the affect of the aforementiones speakers to compare them with a speaker that has a large stage that I don't like an example might be the Bose 901s. They were an interesting speaker in their day, but they have not held up as well as the SDAs. The SDAs are not as good a speaker as the BP 30s (in my opinion).

I also like ribbon/electrostatic speakers, but generally you won't get any where near the value you do in the BP 30s until you have spent 4+ times as much.

From around 60 hz up I've not heard a coned speaker that sounds much better than the 30s.

Setup is easy. Driver height is correct. Very good for music or theater. Relatively efficient yet they can be driven hard. Again, I don't see how you can do better, unless you are buying a speaker to play a specific type of music (perhaps Thiel would be an example, but I don't like Thiels either, though they are nice looking).

I have BP10 for almost 2 years now. And I am pleased to say that they are overall very satisfiying. Although they do not excell in any one spectrum, thetrade off Defenative made was just right. It is a very good Living room speaker
with which the whole family can enjoy. The Highs are a little brighter than what I would like. But the vocal-range is just perfect.
A good qulatity Sub is a must with BP 10.

Althogh BP 30 sounded a little more authoretative, the difference in cost
did not justify the upgrade.

A used Cd store near my home, recently started carrying home audio equipment. Not looking to buy, I was browsing around. I did neeed some home speakers and had listened to many. However, had not heard any brand that I thought sounded really good. Lucky for me, they carried Definitives. I listened to a pair of BP10's and was really impressed. I couldn't beleive the volumne, bass and clarity from such small speakers! I had also never heard of or listened to a Bipolar before. I decided to buy, and again, listened to many direct radiating speakers. I personall, much preferred the Bipolar sound and decided I definitely wanted Bipolars. It came down to the Def Techs and some Paradigms. Having saved up enough money, I ordered a pair of BP30's. They're even better than BP10's.I felt the extra, and larger drivers, made them more authoritative and have more bass. The highs also sounded better. The bass is so good, I don't think I'll get a sub after all. Well, I've rambled enough. Bottom line I think their whole line of speakers sound great and I'm very pleased the BP30's!!

i just purchased the bp 30s and i am overjoyed with them.ilistened to many brands including speakers that cost
considerably more and i found the bp 30s to be the most
articulate and warm speakers in the showroom.yes they are a
little bright in the high end but in the manual it says
there is a break in period for them.i will wait and see if
they mellow out.i owmed ar s and the bp 30s wpe them out.

I got my BP-30 about a month now. They are the best all around speakers I have owned. In the past, I had NHT VT-2, Martin logan CLS IIz, BP-10s. The bass from the speakers is remarkable. It provides a very spacious sound stage. My room is rather small (12"x14"). My humble home theater becomes so lively.

After surviving for a couple of years with Cerwin Vega's and Verit towers, I decided to look into upgrading my speakers...my bonus also helped.
Using the Delos DVD spectacular playing the 1812 Overture, I auditioned Energy, Mirage, Martin Logan, Paradigm Reference, Polk, DCM, JBL, Infinity, Sonab, Klipsch, KEF, B & W, Tannoy, Monitor Audio, and several other manufacturers and I was absolutely amazed at the sound quality that came out of the BP30's!!! These are EXCEPTIONAL speakers! They sounded better than speakers I auditioned costing 5x as much! The bipolar design opens up the soundstage and creates a seemless wall of music. Prior to my auditioning speakers, the only front and rear-radiating sound I'd heard was from several Bose 901 systems and I HATED them!!! As a matter of fact, so did the G.I.'s who owned them as they ALL were trying to sell them after a few months. Back to the BP30's.

The sound quality is first rate! The construction is solid as a rock. Try rapping on the top of one and see if you don't agree. The end-caps are made by Kimbell piano and are solid wood. And the price at $699.00 is surreal.

These speakers can go head to head with some of the finest and most expensive speakers on the market!

My system includes 4 BP30's, a C/L/R 2000 center channel speaker and a Velodyne FSR18 sub! Killer sounds from killer speakers!!!

I was really amazed listening to these speakers at the dealership, considering that they did not have the perfect setup. I had listened to several types of music and it sounded like I never heard before - like listening for the first time. After using Bose 401s as my front speakers for five years, I am definititely going to replace with these. Never realized how bad the Bosespeakers were.
