Strength:

Stunning bass, open and defined soundstage, price.

Weakness:

I was looking for new floor standing speakers to update my home theater system. I wanted speakers that would sound good with music and movies, and be with in a $2000.00 budget if possible. I auditioned Mirage, NHT, Revel, Wharfedale, Boston and a few others. With in this price range, the BP30's can not be matched. I was blown away by how "open" they are, and the bass is outstanding. I am powering them with a Soundstream DA-2 bridged on each one, they are getting 750 watts each. I have yet to get them loud enough to distort, it is if the more power they get, the better they sound. I had to unhook my Cerwin Vega sub woofer (LE15) because it couldn't keep up. It did take some time to get the placement correct due to the listening room that opens to the dining room on one side. Break in takes a while too, it has been three months, and the more they get played, the better they sound. Words can not discribe what these things can do to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, intense. And they do something with my B.B. King CD's that makes me have to play them over and over again. I ended up buying the C/L/R 2000 center chanel, the combo looks great around my Mitsubishi 65" wide screen TV. I would highly reccomend these speakers.

Strength:

Super Clear Sound & Strong Bass!!!

Weakness:

None

I have to admit after looking and looking for over 3 months for speakers I thought I had my mind made up. I have been to every audio shop (local and chain) in my area and even some not in my area to audition all the speakers I could in my price range. I went to one last place to look at the Def Tech BO30's. I first heard to BP10's and was pretty impressed. Great quality and sound. Then we moved over to the BP30's. WOW!!! Big difference. The bass was more present and the overall tone was incredibly clear. I have to admit that this one was a keeper. And just to think that I almost bought something else. I am glad I took a look at these. I matched it with the CLR2000 center and my HT system has gone to a whole new level. I bought the BP30's and the matching CLR2000 center for $1500. Not a bad price in my opinion. Everyone even thinking about these owes it to themselves to look and listen to these at a MINIMUM!!!

Strength:

Bipolar design, great detail, great bass. Sounds excellent.

Weakness:

Bipolar design

I absolutely love these speakers. I did put bipolar as a strength and weakness because I think it is important that you carefully listen to a bipolar speaker in your environment because I do think you need certain criteria for these speakers to sound proper (large room, proper spacing from the wall). I think you should test any speaker in the room you are using it but with bipolar it is that much more important. I had the BP 8's and I really liked them so I definately love bipolar design. I started to read all the posts here about the BP 30 and decided to upgrade. I sold the BP 8's to a friend and bought the BP 30's withouit ever listening to them at a dealer. My dealer alows an in home trial for 10 days and will refund your money if not satisfied. I got these babies last Friday and hooked them up immediately. I thought they would sound harsh out of the box but after one long day of break in they sounded great. There is you much detail from these speakers that even my fiancee noticed a big difference (she wasn't immediately excited about the size). I listen to a very wide selection of music and these speakers sound fantastic for every one of them. Especially jazz and classical where you can here the detail of the different instruments. I mostly listen to alternative and rock and these speakers sound great. It also sounds excellent for HT but I would recommend a separate sub for the really lows. I tried my with and with out an external sub and you really need a sub for those explosion type scenes. If you enjoy bipolar, already have external subs and love 2ch music then these are the best speakers def tech makes. I have a B&K ref 10 and I would often listen to 4ch stereo to fill up the room, now I just listen to 2ch stereo and the sounstage is greatly improved. Two thumbs up, I could not be more satisfied. Finally, thank you to all the people who reviewed these speakers, you greatly influenced me!

BP-30s require careful placement in your room. They are not the best choice in bright, reflective rooms. That said, they do sound great; full, alive, rich, and musical.

Strength:

Excellent soundfield - really envelops the listener

Weakness:

they make my other speakers sound like crap

well, as you can see, i posted a review a year or two ago, and this is just a follow up. My BP30s still sound phenominal. They are the one thing in my system i really am satisfied with (you know how now matter what you buy, you always want something better). For instance, i recently bought a sony vega 36" TV and I wish I had bought a wide screen tv (16:9). Not with these speakers. The more i listen to them , the more i love them.

Great Price/Performance

I must agree with the previous posters. Upon initial powerup, these speakers seemed very bright... Almost ear shattering. But I stuck out the break-in period, and I am sure glad I did. It actually took me about 4 months to break these suckers in to a point where I could actually hear a difference. (hey, I finally got a long vacation during christmas) I really used them alot during christmas, and at very loud levels... I think this put the speakers over the top. I was so surprised to hear the real deep bass, and amazing mids and Highs that came from these speakers when playing the Manheim steamroller Xmas discs. (when they were new, they sounded nothing like this). These perform very well on HT, and equally well on Music.. (you have to get past the bipolar thing. Contrary to what I've heard about Bipolar speakers, if you sit in the correct place, there is a very nice Sweet Spot... that spot that simply envelops you in 3d sound even though you are only listening to two front speakers.)

Strength:

Fantastic value for a well balance speaker...common senses required for placement...but its not critical as alot of high end speakers I have evaluated...(Energy, Mirage, PSB, Logan etc)...Plays all types of music well...Great highs, good lows, nice balance...the better the equipment the better these speakers perform.

Weakness:

Imaging is not strong point, but every speaker has its weakness...This is clearly a best value for the speaker

Give these speakers a listen if your at this price point...you won't be disappointed...When compared with high end speakers such as Logan's ($4000), PSB Gold i's, Mirage OM-6's these speakers are incredible value for the money.

These speakers ROCK!!enough base to rattle the walls, yet very clean and precise. With a wide soundstage music and movies both sound great. I can't wait to get my 2 Velodynes hooked up to this system.
