One word: headache. Granted it may have not been the most productivelistening room, but when they turned on, ouch. The dipolar effect
put a ringing in my ears that took a good 5 minutes to shake off.
I couldn't remember which way was up. I'll give them this, they
look neat, and they're expensive.

I couldn't have described my experience with these speakers any better ,than the way Mattias and Taylor did(check below) !! They took the words right out my mouth, one of the poorest detailed speakers that I have ever listened to also one of the worst value$ on the market in my mind.In fact I enjoyed the sound of the tiny Energy Take 5( a $500 speaker system that I would recommend to anyone looking to spend about a grand on every speaker you need including a powered subwoofer!) system much more than these monstrosities!!I read so many reveiws on these, how could everyone think they sound good?I think def tech has paid off a many of these reveiwers!! And just like Brent Butterworth of Home Theater mag says "I demand you go hear them" before you throw your money away on 'em.
Two thumbs way down!!

This is a response to the three postings below, John, Taylor and Mattias. If I was a new audio buyer, I would have gotten absolutly nothing from your comments. I never seriously listen or give opinion on equipment without listening to it in the privacy of my own home. Yes thats right my review below listed many speaker brands all of which I had shipped to my home to listen to before spitting out my opinion, most equipment sounds like shit in the showroom. You three came short of crying over spilled milk the way you carried on about these speakers. Next time try and give some valuable feedback or alternatives then just downing a product. Also mention how much time you really spent with the speakers or what material you listened too and whether or not you listened to them in your own home, or if you decided to be lazy and just sit in some poorly set up Audio Store where you never get a good idea of how anything sounds. Feel free to email me, I would more then happy to further my opinions on this matter. :) Have a nice day!
Oh yes.......They still get a high five from me.

Strength:

The sheer openess of the sound!
Astounding bass levels attained!
Beautiful to look at!
Solid construction!

Weakness:

Room placement matters! I should have gotten the BP3000s though!

These speakers have got to be one of the great deals in audio! I have had them for over 2 years now and they still sound remarkable! They are great for movies and create a very nice ambient atmosphere when used with other bipolar speakers! The engineering is also top rate! The drivers in these speakers are only 5 1/4" in diameter! You do get the 12" sub section too but I have a pair of BP8s with the same driver complement and they go down low too! As for imaging of a bipolar design, I love them! They create a nice deep and very spacious soundstage! As for instrument location, I saw 3 people enter my living room and wonder if the center channel speaker was on! It was not on! The voices are localized centrally no mater where you are! The whole room apperas to be a sweet spot! It is funny in movies when the sound flows around the walls! It creates a very convincing effect! I love the way they sound with jazz! Put on a cd of The Rippingtons and you will be amazed! Several of my friends have bought these speakers as well! They are that good! try them out if you are looking in this price range! I auditioned the Hales Audio Design Group revelation 3s as well! They were very nice as well! As for all who complain about the weight of these puppies, all things good in audio have weight to them! try lifting a Proceed AMP 5 for starters! Well I am off to listen to some Mozart! Happy listening to all!!

Strength:

Very good mid and highs. Bass accurate until volume gets way up.

Weakness:

Subwoofer provides muddy bass at highest levels.
Come up aesthetically short of the some of the other sub/speaker combos I've seen.

Obviously, I purchased these used at a steal. Due to the price, it is hard not to be satisfied with my purchase. In an effort to be objective, I will say that the subs come up short compared to my friends 2000s. Also, the two 250 watt 12" subs fall short of the performance or a good 500 watt sub.

That being said, these are great speakers and the upgrade 2002TLs are even better.
