Strength:

Sound quality, bass, price, small footprint, appearance (stolen from Def Tech - no harm, no foul).

Weakness:

Sock covering. Attracts every particle of dust/lint known to man kind. Seems subject to fraying at some point as well. I'd also like to see the sub gain knob place discreetly on the top or front.

Fantastic speaker for both HT and music. I got a great "open box", read - returned, deal on these speakers. For those in the Twin Cities, I'd scour Audio King right now to capture deals lingering over from excess holiday inventory and returned merchandise. I saved 20% off of SALE prices. I chose these over the Def Tech 2006TL due to price and application. I love the Def Tech's but I don't have the floor space to place a bi-polar speaker. Substantial and surprising bass response with the powered 8" subs in each tower. Only a dedicated HT room and the complete lack of neighbors will warrant a separate, powered sub. These speakers can roar with the best but remain extremely musical as well.

My set up:
Yamaha RX-V800 receiver
Sony 530 DVD player, S-video, Toslink connection
My trusty old RCA Hi-Fi VCR circa '94. Just keeps on tickin' and tickin'.
Boston 965 mains, 910 center and VRS rears
Sony 32" Old-School Trinitron (WEGA, VEGA, schmega, who cares?)
Monster Z1 cable/bananas to L/C/R & El Crapo wire to rears pending my re-wiring through the walls.

Soon to be added/replaced. The 800 will be replaced with a 5280 to take advantage of a friends employee discount. Identical machines. If you disagree, check out Yamahopper's website and compare the two line by line. IDENTICAL! One's the mass market model the other the "specialty" store model. I will also be adding a Pioneer 503 DVD/CD changer for its CD-R/CD-RW and multi-disc/exchange capabilities.

Thanks audioreview for such a great site.

Strength:

bass, bass, and more bass. dont be fooled by the 8inch sub.the highs and mid are awesome.

Weakness:

none!

I shopped around for a good set of speakers for months. I had my sights set on the vr975s but after listening to them I thought that It might be overkill.awesome sound but probly to much for my home.besides my budget was $1000. I could not find a better speaker for that price or even hundreds more.I HIGHLY RECOMEND THE 965s.

Sup,

Well after a year or so and my budget for speakers starting at $400 and now hovering around $2000 I finally found the B&W 603S2's.. Great wow looks cool sounds great in store. Tehn check all my local stores jsut making sure there was nothing else out there I found the Boston 965's.
Sounded great!

It was down to the Boston 965's and B&W 603S2's, So I now have the B&Ws and The Bostons in my to be "HT" room. Testing both of these speaker out on my Marantz SR-7000(Awesome!) and some XLO ER-15 cable I got. I started with Big Shiny Tunes 3cd and then some Dance music.. and Eric Clapton.. Not really my style but it sounded great!

After a few hours of Wishing I had a switch box So i did not have to unsrew the cable Every time I wanted to hear the other speaker.. I found the 965s had Awesome bass! Wow all that outta 2 8' Powered Subs... almsot puts my Paradigm PS-1200 12' To shame... The only thing I herd was the 960's could not play loud enough and things like that.. Well on TV here now these a Pizza Hut comercial where the delivery boys gets outta his car and his music THumping ect.. I got that song on CD well nto mine but.. These Speakers could not have played the bass Deeper Louder The "tiny" midrange speakers performed awesome. The first thing I thought was well this little 4 1/2inch mid aint gona take my Loud music. lil bit of dance and metal. Boy was I wrong The speaker hardly moves when playing at -9 on my Marantz. These Speakers are simply the Best i've Herd.

Here these speakers Hover around 1600 MSRP i think... Thats a Steal Period. I've only had these speakers for 5 hours and I Love them! I cant wait to buy em. Listening to Track one On Disc 1 of Metallica S&M cd The Symphony Shows off what it can do and It made the hari on the back of my neck stand up. I had my mom listen to the 603s and 965s and she agreed that the 965s has a smoother Transision frum Highs to lows. Full. Warm all Round Great. The mids and Highs were Really Crisp and Eric Clapton I could almsot see his Pick plucking away at the Guitar. Simply the best I've herd! Gaon buy these babies ASAP with the VRS rears and the VR10 center probally

Speakers were really the last thing I needed to complete my system. I'm running a Kenwood VR-3090 A/V reciever with matching Kenwood CD-3280 200 disk changer, Kenwood DVD-303 (really a renamed Panasonic I think), and high end RCA DSS reciever. All audio is digital, using optical fiber on everything except the changer (digital coaxil). I was really anxious to take advantage of the digital sound, but my speakers were lacking.

I really went out to buy either Infinity or Klipsch, but ended up with the 965's. When I got to Hifi Buys I just started them up to give some comparision to Klipsch (they dodn't have Infinity at Hifi Buys) and there was no comparision. The bass hits you immediately. I added a 200 watt powered Klipsch sub to the Klipsch lineup and it still didn't sound anywhere near as good, but would have cost $650 more.

I got the 965's home and they sound even better in my living room. It's a 13x15 room and they fill it (not to mention the rest of the house) completely. I added the Klipsch SC-1 center (the matching Boston center was pretty lacking) and got blown away watching Saving Private Ryan and The Matrix on DVD. The walls of my house were literally vibrating with a hum from all the bass. While the Klipsch is a little on the bright side (which I like for voice tracks), the bass and excellent mid's of the 965's are a perfect match. They look great and are also exceptionally narrow which helps save space. I spent more then I planned, bought a brand I didn't originally consider, and couldn't be happier about it.
