Strength:

Beautiful and natural sounding throughout the entire listening spectrum. Mids and High's are crystal clear! Great bass for a bookshelf, no sub necessary here.

Weakness:

None

I have a pair of these babies in my bedroom running with a Denon DRA-635R stereo receiver and a Denon DCM-460 and these speakers are simply amazing. The first thing I notice was the bass response, which is clean strong and punchy. The mid-range response, as well as the highs, are crystal clear, with amazing imaging and detail. In my main room, I have a pair of VR-M90's and I have to say that the M60 have no problem keeping up with them. This is simply the best bookshelf speaker I have ever heard. Uncolored, beautiful, natural sounding throughout the entire listening spectrum. These speakers blow my mind. I compared them side-by-side and hooked them up left to right to similar priced Klipsch and Paradigm bookshelves. The Klipsch were way too bright and loud. Also, I noticed when I played the Klipsch on the left and the M60’s on the right with an acoustic guitar playing, with the Klipsch I heard the guitar and it sounded ok, but with the M60’s I could hear the guitar as well as the pick hitting the strings. Way better detail with the M60’s. The Paradigms sounded like they were missing something. Not as important to me, but it’s worth mentioning that in cherry wood, they are beautiful.

Strength:

Sound Looks Bi-wireable Very detailed

Weakness:

None

I do not accept the fact that some people have reviewed these speakers as sounding bright. I have a few questions for them. 1. what is your source and amplification? 2. Do you have them bi-wired? These are the best speakers I have heard for the money. Soundstage is awesome as well as detail. The speaker itself is very revealing so be careful what you feed them they will reproduce all sound. I suggest using a good cd player and a high quality disk like an HDCD before a final judgement is made. Also these things do H/T unbelievabley well. Actually thought phones were ringing, knocks on doors, dogs barking etc...

I compared the BA vrm60 to the b&w cdmNt1, paradigm ref. 20 and monitor audio 6i. The BA's were at home, and the others in the stores. The BA's are terrific speakers, very musical, a bit bright, but the brightness seems to be taming some. The b&w probably are the best of these speakers, and best looking with the BA's coming in second. I think for my musical selection of rock, jazz, ballads, international music, the BA's are the most transparent, realistic, highly detailed speakers at the moment. Ultimately the cdmnt1 would be the way to go if I did not mind spending another 50%; and learning to live with light cherry on the b&w. The BA have a very nice cherry finish. The BA are also very interestingly refined for tv/movies. Recommended.

Strength:

Decent construction decent bass for size

Weakness:

highs are very fatiguing midrange a bit thin pricey for level of performance

Upon auditioning hi end monitors at a local shop...I came across the BA offerings...as well as Infinity kappa 200s...and for the money...would go with the Kappas...much smoother in the highs...and fuller in the midrange...although the BAs appeared to go lower...but the tweeter about ripped my ears off...for those that like bright detailed highs they maybe to your liking...if you prefer a smoother, more laid back presentation look elsewhere...the paradigm studio 20s are the speaker to beat at this point...and they cost $400 less...

Strength:

Small, pretty, images well. Well built.

Weakness:

Bass, but hey, thats what a sub is for isn't it?

Whoa...such a small package, and the sound these puppies throw! What lead me to these was a rather fortitious series of events. My old amp was a JVC 884, I needed lotsa hookups, and when I bought that amp, I was not exactly doing well financially. Now is another matter. I stopped by the local high-end store and was poking about. Looking at different stuff, needing some speakers. I had ordered another amp to replace the 884, a 8020 JVC. All that happened to the old amp was its video monitors had gone south. So here I was in a high-end shop, looking for pricey speakers to mate to a dubious amp. I listened to various speakers, and when the guy flipped on the M60's I almost fell over. I could not believe that such sweet sound could emerge from such a small box. I listened, and piddled, listened some more. Told the guy I'd be back later that day after doing some research on the net(this site) and returned and bought a Marantz 5200 A/V receiver AND the M60's. I live in front of my stereo now. Used to I was surfing the net, listening to tunes. Now I listen to tunes, and surf when I have a question I need answered about audio. These things outta have a warning on the side. "Be prepared to feed your new monkey, you WILL upgrade your system after hearing these." Now, I'm nosing about looking for a decent subwoofer, this DCM is just not cutting the mustard.

The tweeter............ Look... Size.Th sound. TRY the Gladititor soundtrack, songs 11 till the end. Let that be your acid test.

Weakness:

Bass is weak. But thats par for bookshelf speakers.

I traded my VRm 50''''s for these. Too good a deal to pass up. I did not expect such a huge differance. If you are torn between the 50''''s and the 60''''s. GO WITH THESE. Its worth it.I am runnning these with a PV 800 sub. Very Nice. I also replaced the Boston jumpers with a set of Analysis Plus Oval 12 speaker wire.

Strength:

Good imaging, plenty of power, great depth for a bookshelf-size set of speakers.

Weakness:

Price - big sound in a small speaker will cost you.

I love these speakers! My spouse gets annoyed because I''ve spent so much of my free time listening to music since she gave me these speakers as a gift. But so many of my favorite recordings sound better than they ever have before. The VR-M60s are so good at pulling out details in the music that I can''t seem to stop listening. If you don''t want to buy floorstanding speakers for whatever reason, the VR-M60''s would be an excellent choice. We didn''t want our kids knocking the speakers over, so this was an issue for us. It would be very difficult (impossible?) to find speakers this small that have such a full and accurate sound. But if you''ve got the space, buy some floor-standing speakers for a better price/value ratio. The exception to this advice is if you plan to get the whole VR-M series, including a good sub (PV600 or better). These speakers actually have a pretty good lower end. Sometimes I''m blown away by how well they cover the lower end of SOME music. But there are definitely times that I notice the missing bass. Adding a subwoofer makes a noticeable difference for music, and is a requirement for movies if you want a true home theater experience. The bottom line is this - IF you are going to get bookshelf speakers, you can''t go wrong with the VR-M60s. But if you can get floor-standing speakers, you can find something for the same price with just as good a sound AND better bass response.

Strength:

wide soundstage - crisp highs - You won''t believe the bells in "Pomp and Circumstance" in Fantasia 2000!

Weakness:

sound may be too bright in some rooms for some people - needs a subwoofer

I don''t know if I would buy these for a 2 channel system, they are very bright at the high end and a little lacking in the low end. In a HT setup though, they are killer. Just by themselves, they give you a huge soundfield. With 5 other speakers, the affect is sensational. They sounded a little sharp at the dealer''s but in my house HT they just sound very accurate and smooth. Actually, even old cds sound great through these speakers on my HT system. I wonder if my subwoofer is smoothing out the overall sound?

Strength:

Razor sharp high''s.

Weakness:

Flat sounding when listening to music.

It is with much sadness that I have to give these speakers a average rating. A little background. I''ve been a boston owner for 7 years. I bought a pair of CR9''s and loved them. Over the years I added the Lynnfield series center and surrounds. A few months back I realized my center speaker was carrying the CR 9''s when listening to music. (i.e. The music sounded better in Pro Logic than two channel stereo. ) I had my eyes on these VR M60''s for a while and finally decided to pick them up. I auditioned them twice at two different Tweeter stores and really wasn''t blown away, though the sound was razor sharp. This was a big improvement over the CR 9''s and based on all the other rave reviews I figured I''d get them. Well a couple weeks ago I came to the conclusion that I just wasn''t happy with the 2-channel audio sound I was getting. Once again it was very sharp, maybe a little bright, but they just lacked any soul or depth. I have a nice M&K sub attached so I know this wasn''t due to low bass output. This morning I went shopping for new ones. I auditioned B&W CDM1, Sonus Faber Concerto and Vienna Acoustics Hayden. All three are in the same price point. I''ll have to say the B & W''s probably sounded the best, but they just didn''t jump out at me as worth spending the $$ to get them. I then went back to HiFi Buys and listened to the Sonus Faber''s and Vienna Acoustics. The Sonus Faber''s just didn''t seem to match my musical tastes, we then hooked up the Vienna''s and they really sounded good. Nice and warm and smooth. We then hooked up the Boston''s and played the same track. The salesman and I both agreed that the Boston''s sounded flat, then bright when the tweeter kicked in. I could write more, but I won''t. I just know for spending close to $1000, I wasn''t as happy as I should be. If anyone has more specific questions, email me directly and I''d be more than happy to tell you more.

Strength:

Imaging, soundstage, seamless sound, ambiance, construction, appearance. Do more with MFSL recordings than I had dared to hope!

Weakness:

Needs a good strong amp to get the full capabilities. Also needs a good solid set of stands to keep them stable. Not that these are really weaknesses.

These are truly remarkable speakers! They IMAGE like no other speaker I''ve ever heard. If there is ambiance in the recording, you will hear it! The most seamless soundstage I''ve found. This is a speaker that blows away many speakers that even list at more than twice the price.
