My husband and I just bought these to set up a home theater system. Since our family room is fairly small, we wanted to stick to satellite sized speakers. We demo'd these against the Polk RM5400 and Bose AM10. The Bose seemed to have no midrange and only sounded really good with a Bose receiver which we didn't want to pay an extra $800 for. We thought the Boston sounded cleaner than the Polk when listening to classical music. Our receiver is a Yamaha RX-V793. We think the new system sounds really good and are very happy with it.

I bought the Boston Acoustics Micro 90t (System 9000) HT speakers and I am very pleased with it so far. I tested it against the Bose AM15 (their top-of-the-line system) and the Energy Take 5 speakers. Although the Take 5 and the Boston sounded almost similar (Boston has slightly better midrange and better rigid construction), I favored the Boston. The Bose, on the other hand, is out of the league. It sounded terrible even with their new designed LFE (Low Frequency Effects) bass module that didn't give out much. Overall, I am very happy with the Boston system 9000. I would recommend it to those who wants small speakers with powerful sound. It goes well with my decor.

I just purchased the Boston 9000 system. I also auditioned the Energy Take 5 as well as the DefTech Cinema 100's - the Boston's had far better imaging, tighter bass and didn't have the "boxy" sound of the Take 5. Plus, the construction was far superior to the Take 5.
I need to add that I am swapping out the rear surround dipoles and will upgrade in the next couple of days to Micro 90's for the back (same as the front units). I think Dolby Digital will be better handled by front and back speakers that can handle full range signals. Besides, I did not want to wall mount my rear speakers and the dipoles are very installation-specific.

This is far and away the best sounding 5.1 system for the price.

i bought these to go with my new new Yamaha 795 and Sony DVP6000 5 changer DVD/CD player and am VER happy with sound!! My friends are estonished when they hear the quality, and then I point out the little-bitty front speakers that are almost "hiding" in my bookcase (yes, i got the white as my wife suggested), and they are more estonished. The Cast-aluminum construction is the best on the market, each front speaker must weigh 10-12 pounds. You get the high-end Lynnfield series tweeter to go along with the 3 1/2 midrange, and the speration adn highs are very good. For my room Cr400 is very good, although I have a trade-in agreement to go to the CR500 if i think i need it within 30 days.

Buy these speakers, put in Fleetwood Mac "the dance", and you think you are at the real thing. Kenny G, Kirk Whalum, and other jazz tunes come through clear. Even Rush - Tom Sawyer - soungs great for jammin rock.

I looked hard for 2-3 months at Paradigm, Energy, B&W, and they are all good. I think the final factor was the high-end tweeter, the rock-solid construction, and the overall sond for the size. Was willing to go for a 12" or so bookshelf, like the CR7, or B&W 302, but could not hear the reason why.

After helping Dan (Previous Reviewer 2-26-99) with his purchase of the Boston'sI thought it was my time to jump in. Comcast Cable of Sarasota just went digital
with their cable system, They use the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 Set-top
box, It has a Dolby Digital AC-3 coaxial output, Picked up the box Sat. morn.
Next stop, Sound Advice, Purchased the Micro System 9000, but made one change
by upgrading rear vrs surround speakers to the micro 90x, same speakers as the
front. $1025.00 matched this with the Yamaha RXV795 $675.00 It is hard to
describe how much sound these little cubes put out, very tight sub. Within the
not to distant future, the DVD-Audio spec will be formalized. This spec will
allow for true 5- channel audio. That is why I am holding off on a dvd player and why I upgraded the rear speakers. Anyway could'nt be happier, but if I do get that itch within the next 60 days I just might upgrade the Yamaha to the
RXV995, come to think of it, I feel that itch comming on already!

I have to agree with everyone else who has posted about this system - it is built like a tank and provides wonderful sound quality for the money. I am using the Micro90x satellites, the Micro90c center channel, Boston's excellent THX-575 surrounds (now discontinued), and 2 powered Boston subs - the CR400 (8", 75w) and the VR500 (10", 100w). I am powering the system with an NAD AV-716 reciever, which is Pro-Logic only, but sounds superb. With good source components (NAD 512 CD player, Toshiba 3109 DVD), the system sings. Crystal-clear, non-fatiguing highs, a slightly laid-back midrange (which I like), and all the bass I could want or need (the 8" sub by itself does surprisingly well in a small room, but when I moved to a home with large rooms and concrete walls and floors, I needed to add the 10" sub.)
I will someday get a Dolby Digital reciever and possibly 2 more Micro90x satellites to replace the surrounds, but I can see myself owning and enjoying the Micro System 9000 for many, many years. 5 stars, without a doubt.

An exceptional speaker system. I chose not to upgrade the surrounds, because I had matching side-mount locations in my living room. For the quality of these speakers against the dollar outlay, this product is the clear winner. I just don't know how Bose reps can sleep at night. I had to hurdle two of them off to make this purchse, and I'm soooooooo glad I did. Putting a Bose AM10 and the 9000 in the same room, is like putting myself in the same foursome with Tiger Woods: absolutely no competition.
The pros are too many to list: speaker placement is key, but I was moving at the time I purchased these, so I did give thought to the room layout and where they would go. But because of their size, that shouldn't be much of a problem in ANY room. (as a sidenote, I highly recommend the Sanus satellite/small speaker stands for the fronts. Screw them on to the stand, and you'll swear they were built for each other, it looks like one unit) Once you have the location issue addressed, other minuses are miniscule at best. They handle any style of music, at just about any volume fluidly. I have a smallish living room to begin with, so if you are in the same boat as me, this decision is almost a no-brainer. Polk audio has a similar package to this in the price range, as do the thieves from Bose, but the BA's were the best to me (somewhat over the Polk's, and just flat-out KILLED the Bose's) Don't be fooled by Bose's slick advertising. At $900-$1,000, this is the system to buy.

I recently purchased the Micro 9000 system and have been 100% satisfied with the speakers. The construction of the front speakers are superb. I needed to find a satalite system for a mid sized room (and space concience wife), and the Bostons definately do the trick. You get a very rich sound from the 90x and blended in very well with the sub. Make sure that you have a high enough sub crossover 150 Hz (I think). The rear speakers performed very well in Dolby Digital as well.

Have had the Micro System 9000 for a few weeks and it is a great sounding speaker system. It's hooked up to a Sony STRDA333ES and they make a well matched combination for our humble home theatre. DVD movies are now a treat and music videos are a joy to listen to. I took the advice of this site and changed the rear surrounds to a pair of Micro90x LR speakers and they really add life to the music videos. It is definitly a step up from our older Sony Surround Sound receiver and Boston Sub Sat system. I am very satisfied.

I tested this system at Fry's and my Bose am15 is far superior.
