No recording studio or professional musician in the history of human civilization ever used any Bose product. Wake up, people, from your coma! And do not buy into the fraud.

Strength:

Bose's Bank Account

Weakness:

All of the foolish people making Bose rich

Why is everyone writing bass as a weakness? What do you expect from a 5 1/4" driver? I know for the money you pay for Bose that you should get 20hz bass, but you don't. That is like saying horsepower is a weakness of a Geo Metro. It is physically impossible to get low bass from that small of a driver. Buy a speaker with a 10-12" driver if you want bass, but don't piss your money on bose and then complain about no bass response. Pull your head out before you leave the store.

Why doesn't Bose specify their frequency response? Maybe because 80Hz-10kHz might not look to good for $900 speakers? How many other manufacturers are copying their technology if it is so great? Look at the frequency response of other systems that have 5 1/4" drivers. They go down to only 70hz or 80hz. They are not trying to hide anything. It is just physics. A lot of people don't need a lot of bass from main speakers if they have a decent sub. Not a little box with 5" drivers and a hole.

Bose wants you to reflect the sounds off the walls, so you don't know where that aweful sound is coming from.

Do some more research people and don't fall prey to the Bose name and advertising. There is a reason everyone hates Bose. It's not because they are expensive or sold at Best Buy and Circuit City. It's because they are way overpriced for what you get.

Crappy paper tweeters can be bought from Radio Shack for $6. Bose is making a killing on those little cubes. Like the other reviewer said, why aren't other companies using paper tweeters? There sure as heck isn't a patent. .75-1" domes are just much better sounding.

I agree the price is way to high for these speakers, but the sound compared to the size of these speakers is unreal.who would ever think that much sound can come out of such a small package.i've had mine for two years and i blast them everyday!i've heard other small speakers and non are even close to these. i love them. i also own a pair of polk audio rt3000 which is an other story.

Strength:

Size and style, high-range sound

Weakness:

Low range, product expertise

After upgrading my system with a Dolby Digital receiver and DVD player, I needed new speakers. The Bose system sounded great in the store. I listened to other systems, but they didn't offer the clear high-range I desired. In addition, I understood, from the salesperson, that the system included a subwoofer. Which I knew was needed to experience the full benefit of the ".1" of Dolby Digital.

After I installed the entire system, I was quite satisfied with the sound. To my naive ear, it was a huge imporvement over my previous system. Although, when listening to R&B and action-packed movies it didn't seem quite right. When I heard a friends set-up, which shook his entire house, I finally started investigating the lack of bass in my system. I was not only suprised, but angered, to find out that I did not have a sub-wooofer. I was even more irritated to find out that Bose offered a new system, with a powered base unit (albeit not a true sub-woofer) that sounded 10-times better only weeks after I purchased my system.

I am now searching for a sub-woofer to add to my system. When I visted my local Magnolia Hi-Fi to check out options, I overheard a sales person calling the Bose AM bass-unit a sub-woofer.

i got bose AM10 II brand new from the web online for $810 (included 2 wall bracket for 2 rear speakers, and shipping...or $740 for AM10) it a bit overprice if you compare quality of the sound to Energy take 5. i think it work best if you got lifestyle unit or a decent receiver. although i got pioneer elite. for my small room setup 12x15 all i want is a hide away speaker. and they just did that. so i got what i looked for. if you want to pay more and get a giant speakers then go for martin logan

We all know that the Bose Sat Sub systems suffer from a lack of mid range frequencies. My wife and kids have started to complain that music CD's don't sound very good on the AM10. I went to my local stereo store that carries Bose, Boston Acoustics and Energy to try replacing the left and right cubes with something better. We tried hooking up Energy Take 2 to a Life style system which produced a noticeable improvement, but not stunning sound. The store said I could buy the Take 2's with a 7 day return option. That was an offer I could not refuse. Using two phono sockets from Radio Shack I wired the Take 2's to the AM10. The family is very pleased with the result. Musical soundtracks sound much fuller with more detail. The only problem is that one now noticesthe limited frequency response of the center speaker !

I must whole heartedly disagree with Igor.I have a small room, with a 3 piece sub/sat system that cost less than Bose, but have such things as a real midrange, real tweeter, and a 12" powered sub, not the teeny acoustimass module.
Bose can and has been badly beaten because theier output quality is below a group of brands, and the bass module [ok 80hz module] is poor output compared to even a Cambridge soundworks system.
Bose gets 2 stars- that's because I am generous.

Strength:

Compact, Nice Design

Weakness:

Bass

Just like everybody else I was dissappointed with the bass too. For the price that I payed you would think that there would be some bass to go with it. After examining the construction of the base module there was really nothing to it. I can't believe that for the price that this system cost they did no even bother putting some insulation inside the bass module. and it made purely of particle board that's glued together. Bose always say's better sound through research. Well I'll give them that, but what about quality of construction? The way the bass module was constructed I don't think they should be charging that much for the entire system. Okay so the material all together cost them $150. That's $750 for research. That's a pretty expensive price for research. Anyway the way I solved my bass problem is that I installed an equalizer to my system and now I am able to hear a much deeper base. Try it out folks. It's a cheap fix for now. This or getting rid of a $900 speaker system.

Strength:

Size, Ability to 'cover' a room with direct and indirect sound

Weakness:

Price, The bass

I have a AM 10 connected to a Yamaha rvx-595ards and a Toshiba 2109 DVD player.

It is a good set. In the beginning i was quite pondersome
about the sound until i started to move things around.
I finally ended up with the Bas box against a wall but not in any corner, facing the wall. The cubes are placed
around in the room and about 120-140 cm above the floor.

Then i got the sound i wanted. Although it is a
expensive system i an happy with it. The thing i have
discovered that i lack is a subwoofer to fill out the bass.
Which is a weakness in the bose system.

I will recommend the system to people who ask, but remind them that they must move the system around in the room
to find the 'sweet spot'.
