Needs the proper innerconnects and speaker cable to make these sound good.

I have been listening to all types of music for over 35 years.I have played in rock''n''roll bands as a lead singer and keyboard player, than got married and all that stopped.The Bose 701 series 2 speakers come as close to the type of sound that I have been looking for for many years.First of all the high end is very smooth,not over powering.Second of all the base is acurate on most recordings I have not heard a set of speakers in any price range that plays all music perfectly including Snell,Vanderstein,Klipch etc.Thirdly, the mid range is adequate, not the best I''ve heard but certainly not the worst,they are above average.One point to make is to use high quality interconnects between your compact disc player and amplifier to assure proper signal timing,secondly use high quality speaker cable not standard wire,this will assure good frequency to sound transfer. I also purchased at the same time a set of 901''s(series 6) and already had a set of 601(series 2)speakers.My amplifier is a Yamaha RXV3000,my cd player is a Conrad Johnson Reference series.After listening to Manfred Mann''s The roaring silence I had to write this review.All these speakers work well together to provide a excellent sound field.My cd collection is excess of over 700 cd''s and records are in excess of over 800.I thought long and hard on my choice of speakers knowing that these were going to be the last purchase of speakers I will buy.So far with all the music I have played through them it sounds great.I hope that you do not listen to all the negative response of any of these speakers but rather try them out for yourselves and make your own decision, good or bad. Good luck in your search for the right sound.

Do yourself a favor and listen to Boston Acoustics,Paradigm,Proac, etc. before you spend three times as much as you should. Why do these cost so much for waht you get? How do you think they pay for all that expensive advertising???

Pricey!!! Muddy in the mid to high range.

Good balanced speaker. Very good deep bass. Room placement can have a dramatic effect on this speakers. A little muddy sounding in the mids to highs but not as bad as other direct-reflecting speakers. I love the cap on the top of the speaker. You can put anything on it and not have to worry about stains, or damage.

I purchased these speakers after listening to many other speaker and found no matter what kind of music you listen to these speakers really shine.anything from rap to classical this speakers produce accurate bass and sound.I was pretty impressed by these speakers beacuse no matter what I play threw them they played to my expections and beyond.

These things are garbage.When compared to high qulity speakers these are poor sounding speakers.Spring clips for connectors should have been a dead giveaway.bose builds cheap speakers

I just returned my Boston AVR-975 for these. WOW, what a difference! I run a Yamaha RXV1, and I can see the difference at the lower volume levels. The Bose deliver nice bass, crisp clear. I spent $800.00 less and got a better speaker. One problem when shopping for speakers is the salesmen never tells you that he is pushing the showroom speakers with a Primary Receiver with 2 additional pre-amps. Very deceiving in show rooms.

Can handle lots of power cool looks open sound

I had these 701's for about 7 weeks. They sound good I feel I made a good buy. My home theater sounds great with them I have Sony 777-AV a Sony 36 Vega-TV Sony 650-DVD Bose VCS-10 center 201 for the rear and Sunfire Jr-sub it sounds the BOMB.

I've just recently ordered a pair of 701s but I still have time to cancel. I had a pair of 901s that I truly loved but after 18 years the foam surrounds disintegrated, and I called Bose to find out where I could get them repaired. The Bose folks told me the disintegration was due to inferior material and offered an exchange(to new for 1/2 price)and I took 'em up on it(after 18 years, it was a 'duh'cision).
Due to a change of listening rooms, I exchanged for the 701s but now I'm wondering if the 701s will be as accurate in the reproduction of acoustic music, especially Bluegrass, as the 901s were.
Anybody out there ever listen to Bluegrass on their 701s?
Whattaya think, would Bill approve? If not, what do you recommend for about $400?

I have been searching for speakers several months now. After reading the “blind test” this week, I decided to try it myself. I went to a local dealer who carries multiple big name speakers, including the Bose 701’s and the KLF 30’s. I too was a Bose basher. I took a buddy and a blindfold (yes, everyone though we were crazy). Well guess what? I picked the Bose 701’s over all the rest too when I didn’t know what I was listening to. In fact, the KLF 30’s were annoying with nasty highs and whooshed lows. I bought the 701’s and have a good powered sub to go with them. I watched U-571 and it was super with my new speakers. These speakers rock.
