Strength:
all that I have mentioned previously
Weakness:
all that I have mentioned previously This is for bosebasher and scumcoboshat. You know guys, these reviews are intended to aid in the decision to purchase. Why wuold you, bosebasher, write a review on the 601 when you've never owned it?You base your review on what your friend says.Just out of curiousity, what is your age?I ask because this is typical adolesent behavior. You should grow up.If you do not like the sound of the 601 then fine. But you have jotted down some garbage based on someone elses opinion. And to use words like (suck) to describe a speaker.I am sure your parents are proud. Strength:
Where good 20 years ago.
Weakness:
Are terrible now. Wow! That average was getting dangerously close to 4.5, which I cannot allow to happen, as these will end up in the hall of fame archive. Hey, Barney Gumble (BBBBBUUUURRRRPPP!!!!), this is for you bud! I want to come listen to your 601s!!! I live in PA as well, but the only catch is that I want to bring along my Revel Performa F-30s and Mccormack DNA-225 amp to compare and see what I'm missing. Is that OK with you? |

Strength:
That they can at least compete in todays market place
Weakness:
surrounds are foam, highs are somewhat rolled off The bose 601 series two and three are listenable little speakers.I think that bose gets it's bad rap because they havent kept up with the industry;while at the same time have enjoyed still much sales success based on a once deserved reputation for being state of the art gear.I have owned every bose model and the 601 is by far the best model.Bass is extended but a little fat and slow compared to a 1000.00 speaker of today.Bose has always used cone tweeters and the highs are rolled off compared to todays domes.Still....they are very listenable, can handle power and are suitable for home theatre. You can pick these up for under 200.00 is most cases. They are not the last word in performance. But there are alot of speakers out there sellimg for much more than the 601 did that are not musical nor do they have any bass below say 60htz. Strength:
Take years of punishment with no complaints.
Weakness:
Not made anymore My 601's have taken over 10 years of use and never missed a beat. There appear to be a few psychos in this site who wouldn't know their butt from a hole in the ground. This is an excellent product with great sound. Similar Products Used: Klipsch, hated them. |

I'm submitting this review to counter the poor review given by "A distrubed citizen." Either distrubed continued to buy every Bose product even after he decided they were crap or he's rating something that he doesn't really own. I'd advise him to stop posting falsified, biased reviews and to break out that dictionary he's such a fan of and learn how to spell retarded, disturbed, revelation, and addict. |

Strength:
Full range sound
Weakness:
sounds like someone is covering the speaker with a pillow I've owned these speakers since 1986, when I was 15. I asked for them for X-mas to replace a pair of 1981 vintage Cerwin Vega's. I was disappointed when I did a comparison of the two speakers and the Vega's had more detail. |

Strength:
Open detail warm highs. Clear, smooth deep bass. High power handling.
Weakness:
They are not made anymore by BOSE. I'm the second owner of this unit bought through the news papers ads. I'm really searching for this speakers for he reasons that this was the best speakers that Bose have ever made. My father owns a Bose 501 series4, the bulky 501s not the new series. I've heard so many speakers from the british speakers (B&W, Celestion, Mission, Rogers, Tannoys etc.), Canadian speakers (PSB, Paradigm, Energy, NHT etc.) to the American speakers (JBL, AR, Infinity, Polk Audio etc.) so I know how they sounds but i've always comeback to the sound of Bose 601s. I think that it is a matter of taste and an objective opinion. I know that the 601s are not the best in the world of speakers, but I think it is one of the listenable speakers IMHO. Anyway I'm not an audiophile since they don't usually consider economic reasons(spending thousands of dollars on cables only). I'm just bug by the person who intentionally posted one star just to lower the rating of this model which I think is not right for an objective review. So to make this review balance, I will post this again. |

Strength:
High power handling. Efficient. Long lasting. Quality sound!
Weakness:
Paper drivers, cheap wire clips You have to keep in mind that the pair of bose 601's I have were made in 1986, and one guy wrote that his were 20 years old! They still compete with new speakers in terms of sound quality! Does no one else find that amazing?? I would quikly give up my polks for the 601's if I had to choose! The Polks do sound better, but I know the Bose will be there for me for years to come. I mean, I know that Bose is not the all mighty god of audio, but they are DAMN GOOD!!! The new models have good price tags, and I feel that they compare to much more expensive models! I would buy bose again!! Similar Products Used: Advent legacy III's & Polk RT600i's |

Not available anymore My BOSE 601s are from the last series of BOSE 601 [series III, I think]. Each enclosure has 4 (3-inch) tweeters and 2 (8-inch) woofers. Similar Products Used: BOSE 901 VI |

Strength:
That such a pre-historic fossil could elicite rave reviews in todays modern world has to be a strength I am writing this for 2 reasons. The first is to kill the 4.7 average that they USED TO HAVE. The other is to perhaps offer a smidge of enlightenment to some people who are quite clearly living hopelessly in the past. I have no doubt that these may have sounded good 15 years ago, but just like many other things, mankind has come a long way in 15 years, and so has the loudspeaker industry. To see people actually repairing these retarted version of the species brings an ear-to-ear smile to my face. Some may say that I'M not speaking objectively, but anyone who would actually claim that these produce "realistic sound" compared to todays similarly priced competitors, needs to have their hearing checked. So, as I bid the six of you fairwell, do as I did: WAKE UP!!!! Similar Products Used: A circa 1970's black and white TV. |
