Strength:

overall sound quality, great soundstage.

Weakness:

Like all direct/indirect speakers placement is a must.
Bose no longer makes them

I have beat the snot out of them for the last 8 years and have yet had a problem. When I first purchased them in 93 all I wanted was LOUD!!! And they are.. But they are also extremely clear.. With a great soundstage (if properly placed) The only thing now is the wife wants smaller so I am thinking about letting them go to get the lifestyles 15.

WARNING!!!
If you are not an ardent BOSE proponent, and you have posted a negative review of a bose product, you may be subjected to the wrath of an individual who goes by the moniker "Mr. Bose". He will come to you in stealth, with a foul tongue and an equally lacking vocabulary totally void of any degree of usefull coherency. This person is evidently either retarted or perhaps a crack adict.

Mr. BOSE: We know your out there, however your cowardice is evident in the fact that you don't give anyone the opportunity to respond to you maniacal ravings. This will not be tolerated. At least When I write a to reviewer I give them a chance to retort. Mr. Bose, it is well that you are devoted to your cause, nevertheless, it is unfortunate that you lack the intelligence to convey your ignorant beliefs. It is advisable that you consult a dictionary which, just in case you weren't aware, is a book which may bestow upon you startling revalations about the mechanics of intelligent expression. I await your response.

Strength:

"Just a great sound" HA!!! Typical drooling bose fanatic's blabber if you ask me!

Weakness:

Old, Obsolete, reqiures repair to continue operation(because they're OLD!!!), and lastly its BOSE!!!

Amazing. Talk about a man obsessed. I want everybody here to direct thier
attention to the guy below me. Hello Remmy!!! Wave to him; Blow him
kisses!!! I got an enraged email from him due to a past review. He wrote me
swearing and cursing incoherently. Just SOOO mad that I'd dare slam such a
world class product. If your buying used speakers for $300, its evident
that you know about as much about audio as Bill Clinton does about morals.
They may put up a fight with a $200 pair of techniques studio
monsters(which incidently, also use paper tweeters), but thats about it.
So in honor of ol' Boseco down there, heres a juicy 1 STAR REVIEW!!!

Strength:

just a great sound

Weakness:

none that I know of.

I just want to raise the score for the bose 601 here. I'm using them for 6 years now, and I'm very happy with them. Those guys out there who are submitting low ratings do not know the real quality of this speaker. When you keep the price of < $300 (second hand market) in mind it is a real bargain and even today new speakers with the same price-tag mostly cannot compete with that 20-25 year old bose 601!

Strength:

Longevity, Great Full Range Sound, high power handling

Weakness:

They are not made anymore by Bose

Own three sets of original 601's and all six still sound great after 20+ years! Great full range sound & value for the money. Speaker placement is critical to get the proper sound from any Bose direct reflecting speaker.

Purchased my first set of 601's in 1977. After trying numerous other brands for second speaker sound (they didn't have surround sound in the 80's!) I broke down and purchased a second set of 601's. Four 601's sound fantastic togeather, as good if not bettor than my 901's, the 901's just handle more power.

Over the years I came across two additional 601's which I planned to use for parts, but since the speakers last forever I am currently using them all. Only one of the six speakers is showing signs of woofer dry rot. Bose offered me a trade up to the 701's for $336 but I am not ready to part with my extra set of 601's.

The four 601's are part of a living room stereo system powered by a Yamaha with the two extra 601's wired to my bedroom. The 901's series V is part of a family room surround system powered by an Onkyo.

I really can't understand some of the ANTI BOSE reviews who rate them low just to reduce the average ratings on this site. Obviously they never heard Bose 601's speakers thru a quality system. I would invite them over to hear what they are missing, but I don't allow NERDS or AH's in my home.

Strength:

Well, sound. I have had these speakers for 20 years.
I love them.

Weakness:

Cabinets are a pain to clean in and around speakers.
The plastic needs better suppts in case of someone placing
something on them.

I bought the Infinities when the woofers went out on my Bose. All four suffered from dry rot of the cone support.
Hell after 20 years and thousands of miles of moving, they were great. I bought some Inifinties, but the bass was very heavy-Inifinty trademark? I liked the Infinities very much, but I finally decided it was work paying Bose for the replacement 8" woofers (four of them). I called them up, go away with a $175 bill for four new 8" woofers, which I had to hardwire and solder in myself. Since then, I have mad speakers stands for the Infinities (4' high at the bas eof each speaker) and combined them with my Bose. WOW!! what a combination. And the Bose are sounding greatand with the inifities up so high and away from the wall...I have go the most awsome sound in a long time. Great mixture.

But when I only play the Inifinites, something doesn't sound right. With only the Bose playing, the sound is great. So when the two are combined the wound is wonderful and pelasing to the ear-from classical music to punk rock and Coutnry. Everything about the Bose 601 (series II) is true and I am glad I spent the extra cash to rvive them.

I am quite content.

There name, because if you did'nt know the brand name you would be able to listen to them without hating them,(and you would most likely love the sound) because you would'nt be so damn prejudiced

I still love these speakers to death, Still one of my favorites; so put that in your pipe and smoke it!!!!

Danny hit the nail on the head. One other thing you must remember is that during the 70's and early 80's Bose made some quality speakers. I never have liked the 901s, but the 601s, 501s, and 301s made during that time period were quality products. I owned a pair of original Bose 601 speakers for over 20 years before parting with them, and I definitely got my money's worth. For those that bash Bose today, your opinions are not without justification. I have seen and heard Bose products many times in the last several years at local retailers and people's homes, and I don't believe that you must own the product to write a review. Do you think that the professional reviewers own every product they review? Of course not. But if you are going to write a review about a Bose product because you want to warn people about them, do so with maturity. Your nonsense reviews do not help the situation, it only makes others not want to be like you, so they go and buy Bose.

I actually never heard these speakers (they were made before I was born) but I know that Bose sucks, so they must be bad.
I also had a friend once, who told me Bose products were no good.

This is for bosebasher and scumcoboshat. You know guys, these reviews are intended to aid in the decision to purchase. Why wuold you, bosebasher, write a review on the 601 when you've never owned it?You base your review on what your friend says.Just out of curiousity, what is your age?I ask because this is typical adolesent behavior. You should grow up.If you do not like the sound of the 601 then fine. But you have jotted down some garbage based on someone elses opinion. And to use words like (suck) to describe a speaker.I am sure your parents are proud.

Now I would like to say a few words about scumcobosehat. a .Grow up.Start using this site for the purpose that it was intended. And that is to give an honest opinion of a product. We are all impressed with your cables. We are all aware now that you do not like Bose products.I wonder if you have ever really owned or listened to the 601.Remco may have mailed you with some harsh words but I have not seen that for myself.I have seen your review, however. It is interesting that you are on this site writing about something that you claim is total garbage? Sounds like sour grapes to me.Maybe you should buy a pair of 601's and live with them a week or two and then write a real review. That would impress all of us as much as your speaker cables do.I would buy the 601 series two or three if I could get them under 300.00 I still say that they are more musical than alot of products of today costing twice as much.I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL PERSONS THAT GAVE AN HONEST REVIEW ON THE 601;WHETHER POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE.Have a good day you two. Try to grow up a little before your next entry.
