Strength:

port on top of speaker series 11
wire nuts not spring clips.
series 111 looks better

Weakness:

series 11 look old out dated, even with new grill covering.
they do look better than the original coverings
port on the bottom of series 111

this review is for the series 11.the other review I did is for the series 111.
The price should of said $200.00 on that review.these were given to me.totally thrashed. These were A bose bashers dream speakers.

I dont know were they came from but one of the speakers top grill was broken.I love the way the series 111 looked. The series11 no.
But I fixed them,I made A frame for the top out of fencing wire,& covered both speakers with new speaker cloth. They look like new speakers.Really dont like the design.
the series 3 have A port on the back bottom of the speaker.mice can get in there and

destroy the speaker.I
never kney there was A port down there.
All my series 3 ports are taped.
the series 1 has the port on the top.

Strength:

easy to buy new foam surrounds, tweeters, ect

Weakness:

tweeter design & build quality

this review is for the series 2 & 3 floor standing speakers.I dont like the 4 tweeters in each speakers.if you have 4 speakers that means 16 tweeters.to much treble.im 50yrs old & I own lots of speakers.the omly way I can tame the treble is by adding different speakers.they made an earlyer model the 301 that had the tweeter built in the cabinet with A deflector arm.I think the floor speakers would sound better with less tweeters.

Strength:

What a soundstage! Lively.... like being a part of a performance. Great recordings sound great...poor ones still sound acceptable :) These are perfect as they are.... no sub needed....they have a natural bass that resonates from the big cabinets that puts subs to shame.

Weakness:

The only downside can be their size,if you don't have the room to place them to your liking. As the saying goes however..... there is no replacement for displacement! (referring to their cabinet size)

This review is for the 601 Series 2. Simply stunning speakers. They wowed me when I bought them in 1981.... and still do today. I've listened to many other style and brands of speakers.... and they all sound good in a showroom.... bring them home .... listen to them ..... and there's always someting missing compared to the 601's. I've never found a comparable speaker yet. The latest 601 version Bose made is nothing like these. If they sold these Series 2 today .... and I had the room .... I'd buy another pair. Even used .... they are worth every penny . I still have my original woofers .... I'm not sure what the cause of the foam rot some have experienced , but Bose offers new woofers and tweeters for these at $46.19 and $17.19, respectively. No two of us hear the same... think the same .... or are the same. There is room for every speaker and every listener..... to each their own. No one can tell me or you what is a great speaker ..... opinions do not listen to music .... we as individuals do. Simply listen . We can write and talk about speakers for the rest of time..... without a note of music having ever been played..... and it means nothing. Simply Listen :) For any prospective buyers.... always try a speaker in your listening enviroment.... and but from a store that lets you return them if they don't "wow" you. If the store says no ... try another dealer :)

Strength:

Every last thing about them!

Weakness:

Absolutely none

I just bought a pair of Bose 601 tower speakers about a week ago. They were a true steel. I bought these as a floor model and that was why i got them at such a good price. In my ht system, I have a $900 DENON receiver, $500 DENON DVD player, A Mitsubishi center channel, 601's as the front, and 301's as the rear surrounds. I do not have a subwoofer hooked up to it because I do not feel that I need one.

Strength:

Great sound resulting in accurate reproductions. Very efficient drivers are clean, not so tight but crisp. Large sweet spot allows for less critical placement of system.

Weakness:

Cheaply build cabinets and posts.

Well it has been four months since my last review. I tell you these Bose 601 sound fantastic. I still don’t understand the negative comments. I have done a lot of research because I wanted to get my home theatre system right the first time, and now that I have had my system up and running for nearly four months I still have to say that the 601’s are wonderful. I even went as far as to buy a pair of axiom millennium which are highly rated for their build as well as their high fidelity, and I will say this, “sure the 601’s cabinets are made of cheap plastic and the binding post are not of gold, but trust me the money is not there, it’s in the sound. I'm stationed in Italy and have attended over 40 Symphonies and as many Opera’s. Believe me when I say that my 601’s have turned my home into a concert hall. I can hear every instrument as if they where playing live. I didn’t pay much more than $550 dollars for them. My axioms on the other hand cost me $800 and they sound a little better and have a lot more beauty and build but I still need a power sub like my 10’’ Yamaha subwoofer (YAM-YSTSW320) to get my walls to rock when I listen to Bach’s great organ pieces, and trust me nothing less than 10” of down firing power will due. My CD’s and DVD’s are played now a by dual scanning Sony CD player utilizing an optical cable that runs into my Denon 2803 receiver. This arrangement gives me the best of both worlds. I get true symphonic reproductions, and a top-notch home theatre system that rumbles my walls, and has me leaping for cover when explosions go off, Holy Moly!

Wow, I tell you these bose's sound fantastic. I don't know what some of the negative comments are about. I have don't allot of research because I wanted to get it right the first time. I'm stationed in Italy and have been to over 40 symphonies and as many opera’s. Believe me when I say that my house sounds like a concert hall. I can hear every single instrument as if it where playing in my home. I didn’t pay much more than 1500 dollars, and my system consists of two Bose’s 601, center channel, two 201’s for the rear and a power 10’ subwoofer by Yamaha. My cd’s are played by my Sony play station with optical cable running into a $500 dollar Denon receiver. I tell you I have the best of both worlds. I get my symphonic reproductions, as well as top notch home theatre that rumbles my walls, leaps my out of my seat, and has me dogging bullets and laser blast, holy moly!

Strength:

-Direct/Reflecting spreads sound around the room nicely -Nice size and industrial design

Weakness:

-Drivers are of low quality, especially tweeter, and not well integrated -Is not hi-fi (i.e. faithful to the original sound) -Poor performance for the price due to above factors

I was comparison shopping for speakers, and tried the new Bose 601. While I like the direct/reflecting characteristic, the speaker is so far from having a flat frequency response that it dosen't really qualify as hi-fi. I purchaced Tannoy Saturn S6 and cold not be happier with them (although I still think that the BOSE look better)
