Strength:

Exceptional imaging and mid-range.

Weakness:

Bass.

Overall I am extremely happy with these speakers. I use them for pure audio as well as Home Theater and they perform admirably for both. The one area where they are lacking is bass but I knew this prior to purchasing and therefore I bought a B&W subwoofer along with them - terrific combination. Highly recommended.

Strength:

Very detailed and transparent sound with tight but warm bass what enables exceptional musicality.

Weakness:

Obligatory bi-wiring or bi-amping and high quality amplifier of at least 2x50W.

After living with these speakers for more than a year I give all honest owners few obligatory tips how to make it even better while shutting the mouth of those who attack them:
1. Bi-wire or bi-amp it with good cables, for instance Audioquest, MIT, Stright Wire, Cardas etc.
2. Use the best possible amplifier of at least 2x50W (I had excellent results with Marantz and Danish amplifiers)
3. Put them on spikes (if your floor is too fine put pads under the spikes)
4. Try it with tube pre-amplifiers or amplifiers or at least with Musical Fidelity X10D
5. Try it with turntable and you'll be surprise how many details you can extract from your records
6. Try it with all kinds of music (some of the simphonies sounded so good that I managed to hear them by the end for the first time, while some of the previously boring musicals became very pleasant)
7. Listen to it on Sundays or late in the evening when the power is cleaner and details more pronounced while overall impression is more liquid.
Honest owners enjoy it!
Opposers and attackers suffer!

I was amazed at the quality of these speakers. They and a ASW2000 just replaced my difinitive tech BP2002's. The B&W's were cheaper new and they sound much better. Ignore the 1 and 2 star comments on this page. They must have heard them on a low powered amp or not correctly bi-wired. They are very nice for the price. My best recommendation is to hear them though. Everyone has different tastes.

These speakers are one of the biggest scams on the market. Not only do they have a passive radiator disguised as a woofer but they also have a port. NEVER PUT A PORT AND PASSIVE RADIATOR IN THE SAME BOX !!!!This equates to loose undefined and underpowered bass.
The midrange is chesty and bloated. I can't believe people actually buy these speakers.
Look elswhere. There are many bookshelf speakers for under $1000 that will out perform these garbage cans in every respect.

For example:
Dynaudio
Monitor Audio
RBH
Paradigm
Kef
and many more...

Having owned a set of 603's for almost one year I'm still very happy with them. They deliver the music in a clear and detailed manner even with the volume cranked up, they fill the room with sound!
Listen to Republica's song Bloke and see what I mean!

Strength:

Mid/High range excellent, highy musical

Weakness:

Bass response

I've had 603's since early '97. An excellent speaker, musical and durable. Bass response is limited, but not an issue with me as I have a sub and configure my receiver to deliver all content below 80 Hz to the sub. Highly recommended.

Strength:

Mid-tone!!!

Weakness:

Bass :-(

Excellent for playing ROCK/METAL and classical. If you're looking for a techno-speaker this isn't the one!!! I use it with a Marantz PM66 K.I. Signature, and I am very satisfied with the sound. Lacks a bit of low-end bass, but that will be compensated by a good subwoofer (For example Dali SWA12). Looks nice (mine are 5 years old soon and still in 100 percent perfect shape). The Mid-tone is ear-shattering, bass is tight and treble is clear and crisp. The new model (603 S2) is probably better in bass, but they are 200$ a speaker more expensive (about the cost of a good sub). If you enjoy rock and metal (like I), and can get these used, go for it!!! You will not regret it! But always remember to use a good amp. (They are said to be 8 ohms, but I have calculated them to apprx. 4.8 ohms)

Strength:

Clear, Sound nice

Weakness:

Loss of base in a large room

I first had 601's then upgraded to the 603's for more bass. Sound "quality" is nearly the same if you ignore the bass difference.

In a small room they crank out the bass, I use a Yamaha RX-V395 Amp. I can turn it up and my eyes blur from the bass... but thats in my small apartment. I never get tired of hearing them because they sound so smooth. Once I had them in a large room with a ceramic tile floor and high ceilings... they did not sound so great and the bass was not good, I think the room just needed a larger speaker or was not good for audio. One important thing, the amp seems to be more important because (laugh at me)... I first hooked them to a JVC Jam box.. which sounded great, I then hooked them to my mother inlaws Kenwood... guess what, they sounded worse than the JVC Jam Box ($169 jam box + 603's sounded better than $1000 Kenwood setup). Now I have the Yamaha amp and they sound a lot better. So I think now that I can get better sound if I get a more high end amp. Oh, I think to they sound better now than they did when I bought them. subtle difference or my imagination.

Strength:

Easy laid back sound, that does every style of music! Great allrounder. Is one of the few speakers that is extremely fit for playing Metal!

Weakness:

A good and stable amp is needed when driving this speaker!

This is the most outstanding speaker I've ever heard. True the bass goes not that deep as I would like. But it is not boomy as many other speakers are. For the price it is a monsterspeaker, there isn't a better one at this price. This speaker can play any kind of musicstyle. I use it for listening to Heavy/Gothic and Black Metal, the double bass drum is very detailed and tight! I have tried many speakers at home, but this one is really fast and has the best overall sound to get in this price range. To get the full potential, thick cables are in need. I use now 2x6mm2 from translator and it does the job very good. Thinner cables give to much loss of bass. Thicker make it even better, but the price is also starting to count than. To drive this speaker good, you will need a good amp. On a Marantz or Denon amp it will sound muddled and totally untight, or worser the amp will close down, because of it's low impedance! I use the Sony TA-FA50ES which is not the most powerfull amp, but it is very quick ultimately stable and has a gorgious sound, Sony ES amps are excellent combinations for B&W speakers.
