I bought the B&W 703s as an upgrade to my Paradigm monitors. The first time I hooked them up I was totally amazed! The soundstage is very good and I don't need to force the bass, mid and highs to perform at their best. The low is very tight, fast and accurate not boomy. The mid is very open and detailed and revealing. The highs is sweet ang not fatiguing. The 703s are very well built and muscular. In music and ht, from jazz to rock metal, the B&W 703s are great companion.

I bought the 703's over 6 years ago!! in 2003.

I still love them. When set up properly it's freedom from conventional boxes is breath taking & it can handle ALL types of music & all types of recording (except cd's mastered with peak limiting but proper hi-fi systems just show up how badly they are mastered

About 3 years I have been listening to B&W 600, 700 and 800 series among others like Tannoy, Paradigm, Infinity, etc. But I really enjoyed the music details and 3D imaging that came out of 703s. The 800 series does have a better treble but I could not justify the price difference between 703s and 800 series. The sound diffuses across the room and fills up. The clarity of the music so much better on the 703s. If you are into listening hard Rock or head banging music this is not for you (none of the B&W is good for that)

I did consider getting the 704 but it was missing the mid-range details. I would say 703s are big bang for the buck. You do need a good amp to drive those. I listen to 703s using Rotel RSX-1056, Pioneer SC05 and Denon 3808 and I could not differentiate much from one another since it is all receivers. But I ended up buying Denon. Please listen using different receiver or amp and choose what you like better.

B&W is ending the production of 700 series this year, so all of them are in sale. I ended up buying the 703s since the price is affordable now.

Strength:

Bass, high and mid, image

Weakness:

Could need more highs and clearer but I think that is why the 800 series are there.

These 703's are great speakers, well made, heavy and nice sounding.
I had the CM1 but then exchange with a 703. CM1 was already clear and bass was impressive but when I hook to my Jolida 202d tube amp and play CD like Jazz, classical or blues, it was more open and music sounds more live. Maybe it's because it's a 3 voices speaker. I also made a switch from kimber cable interconnect to nordost blue heaven to add more spaces to music.

Strength:

Amazing 3D imaging!
Size of sound
Bass.
Older music really comes alive.

Weakness:

Expensive.
Makes other mass produced speakers at their price sound boring and you'll never be able to listen to cheaper speakers again. Ever.

Nobody ever comments on the imaging so here we go.

I had the chance to listen to different speakers from B&W among others. I started with the 600 series, moved up the CM seires. They sounded ok but nothing out of the ordinary except amazing bass. So far I was unimpressed at their price vs performance. The sales person told me the next series of tower speakers get alot of comments about how it sounds like there is a center channel running. I was about to find out why he was smiling!

He hooked up the 703 towers alone and I have never heard anything like that before in my life. From the first note I knew this was a super speaker. It created a phantom image in 3D with unheard of detail. I honestly looked to see if a center or other speakers were hooked up. Even $4000 HT systems cannot do 5% of what these two 703's did on any level. The music was as wide as the speakers were spaced and then some, with the singer standing dead center and full bodied, and the instruments image at least several feet deep and forward. It was like hearing my music for the first time standing in front of me in the flesh.

The 803S did the same but improved on the treble response with more extension and if the singer said "E" it didn't scream, overall smoother, easier, even more real response. The kind of speaker you can listen to a song over and over again. I could not tell it from real to be honest, and I'm used to live classical music. They both were powerd by a Bryston B100 SST.

Weakness:

Ok, I'll be straight forward here. I am not a big review writer on the net, and this is my first one. These speakers are so good that they made me finally write one! I saved up for these speakers and it took me about 6 months. Trust me it was well worth it. These are by far the best speakers in my opinion. I am hearing things I never heard before from the same song I've been listening to for years! This is as good as it can get. I had done a lot of research before buying the 703s and listened to every hi-end speaker and I can say very confidently these speakers blow every speaker away. 703s are very similar to even 802s. The difference between 703s and 802s or even speakers costing around $15,000 is so little that Its not even worth spending that much. They surprise me with their exceptional detail and accuracy every time I put in a cd!!! Simply amazing!!!

Weakness:

useless in most HT applications

Bought for my office and powered by top of the line marantz 2 ch with transpaparent wave speaker cables bi-wired and spiked.CD is Rega research jupiter. While some complain about the tweeter i think it is entirely adequate esp with the x-over at 4000 k(most tweeters cross at 2-3 .This lets the fst mid range due most of the work. And what a driver it is!Note it's inclusion in the new top of the line series!Needs good front end.I own Vandy model5's(10 years and going storng)The big maggies and a multitude of tube and solid state eqipment accumalated over last 30 years. These are the best BANG FOR THE BUCK speakers i know of currently .Their are no matching center or surrounds so unless your going to buy 5 or 7,I would consider only as stereo units or rears in a 800 set-up.Long break in and superb danish cabinetry top things off.Very revealing!Good disc's sound great.Bad recordings show all their limitations.Highly reccomended esp if you get a b&w dealer that will play ball.I got 17% off w/o much effort, tho some will not budge.Buy'em,be happy.

Strength:

Clean accurate bass and smooth midrange. Clear treble.

Weakness:

Harsh treble at higher volume. Unaccurate bass if at a higher volume.

This is actually a review on a pair of B&W 2003 ZMF speakers. I could not review these speakers on the right page as no other reviews have been made before. These are great speakers with smooth midrange and clean, accurate bass. The treble is clear although a little harsh/bright at higher volume. I would recomend these speakers if you want good sound at a good price. They will easily fill a big room with sound and you will get the most out of your music. I would rate these a 9 out 10 for overall look and sound quality.

Strength:

Clear and clean sound

Weakness:

expensive, need the right amp

Bought these in February this year. Initially had them hooked up to a MF 3.2 integrated. Sounded ok but even after a long burn in it wasnt up to snuff. Purchased a Belles 350A power amp and they just started to sing. Clear and open upper end with great imaging, midrange acurate, great bass(i also use a B&W ASW1000 sub). They did take sometime to break in and matching amps is very important to get the most from these speakers.

Strength:

imaging, frequency response smoothness and extension, three-dimensionality, clean and tight bass, build quality.

Weakness:

slightly tipped up treble, fairly high priced, and (probably) limited in terms of high output deep bass. I haven't actually proven this last "weakness" personally; I am just assuming this to be the case, because we are talking about a pair of six and one-half inch woofers per speaker. Personally, I have not found their limit yet!

I heard a pair of CDM-1NT's and was blown away by the imaging and three dimensionality. Also, for their size, I thought the bass was excellent. I thought if these sound that good, how would B&W's floor-standers sound? I had to travel over two hours to get to a dealer with a good selection of various B&W models, but the trip was worth it. These 703's preserve all the imaging and sound-staging of their smaller stablemates, while adding real bass. Make that real deep, tight bass. Down below 30Hz in my room. The midrange is utterly clean and natural. Highs are a bit elevated, but clean and smooth. Probably a little hotter than neutral, and perhaps revealing of nasties upstream, but I use a A/V receiver to power mine, and the sound is not harsh at all. Something to consider and be aware of, though. In essence, these speakers are simply the best I have ever owned. While noting the somewhat pronounced treble, I would still recommend them without reservation, if you want a very well-made speaker that sounds extremely good on all kinds of music.
