durability, highs, mids

Weakness:

bass

I'vve had these speakers for over 6 years. Yah my buddy and I each bough a pair for $200 from the infamous white van in San Diego, but these speakers have held up in 5 different houses 5 cities and two states. They sound good (no bass) but with a klh sub, klh rears, and a sony amp, they make great speakers as part of my surround system. What kind of Audiofile just uses two speakers anyways? I probably overpaid (I was a dumb college kid) but I don't know too many speaker towers that last that long and still hold up. The only reason I'm not using them now is because my wifes dumb cats started scratching at them and we ended up buying a whole new amp/dvd/mp3 5.1 system.

Strength:

They are a bargain for what I paid. I would compare them to any $200 per set speaker out there, and if I was looking for speakers in that price range, I would definitely purchase a set. Most of the floor standing speakers that are this size are $200 each or more. Even MTX home stereo equipment is more expensive.

Weakness:

Light on the low end, and not incredibly musical, but if you are looking for some above entry level speakers, these will fit the bill nicely. Add a subwoofer to these, and you are rockin'!

Wow! Everyone is slamming these speakers! I purchased these used from a friend recently, and have been pleased with the value. The bass response is not outstanding, but what do you expect from some 8" woofers in a standard ported enclosure? I came on here looking for some advice or possibly a manufacturer contact, as one of my tweeters is blown, and I was searching for a replacement set. Does anyone want to sell the set that they are so disappointed with?

Strength:

Nothing

Weakness:

Literally too many to list in this space. A scam.

We all know about the guys who pull up to you at the stop light and get your attention then try to sucker you into buying these, and a friend of mine did. As a professional audiophile I would have known these were cheap rip-offs immediately, having a name which no audiophile recognises and a low quality finish on MDF to start. 25 watts high current will drive these beyond linear Xmax, yet they do not use it efficiently. Beware of this one. The company could have done better with one Fostex driver and no tweeter, woofer, or crossover and would have had a beautiful speaker.

Customer Service

You must be joking?

Strength:

Tall and narrow fit well in my location, generally decent appearance.

Weakness:

Below average sound. Obviously cheap when looked at up close.

Picked up at 2nd hand store for 25 bucks because they would fit in a nice cubbie next to my Mitsubishi TV. Sound is below average being both muddy in the lower range and the highs are muffled. There is severe output changes in ranges across the audio spectrum (ie everything @1000Hz will overtake notes in the 3000Hz range).

OK for causual listing when cleaning the house, woking out ect., but then again so is my Sony Boombox.

Those of you who are pushing 200 watts into these speakers better check their equipment. MY Marantz 2270 ( 70 RMS / channel) will drive the driver to full mechanical throw at just over 1/2 volume (on control). And being next to my TV does not cause my tv picture distort ( i am assuming they were trying to imply the speaker magnets were so strong). Try running a compass next to them, they dont put out any large field.

I looked these speakers up on the net since I had never heard of the brand ( i used to repair audio equipment for a living). I figured these were cheap speakers due to the weight and the vinyl covering but they fit my application.

You people who were duped, I am not sure what you expected. I dont know anyone who considers themselves audiophiles or even enthusists who who buy (out of all things) speakers WITHOUT hearing them!!......muchless a brand the never heard of, out of a back of a pickup, in a random parking lot. And even if you did buy a name brand , quality speaker in that situation, you know you would be buying stolen (or not legitimately) obtained equipment.

Strength:

Handled 350watts of true power. Incredible highs and lows for the price. Bass rumbles at lower levels than my old Sony speakers. Highs complinent the lows with crisp sound that doesn't get distorted by the bass.

Weakness:

Magnetic field is a problem if you don't have much room to work with(2ft away from TV at least). Lows destort at about 300watts unless you have a high end source. The included cross overs need replacing to get these to hit 350watts without distortion. Never tried to go any higher for fear of over powering these bad boys.

I baught these to replace a pair of Sony floor speakers that blew up when I hooked them up to my new receiver. I payed $300 for the Sony speakers and these beat 'em bad. I dumped 300watts each into them the first day and they took it all and begged for more. I then hooked them to a friends PA system at a local bar and the cops were called with it pumping 350watts each. They still sound just as good as the day I first baught them. I found a newer cross over for them and installed it. Now my bass shacks my garage doors from over 100ft thru brick. If you have a good receiver these things rock. I hooked up the Sony from my original home theatre set and they sounded like crap. The Sony produces too much distortion at low levels for these speakers. For the price I would buy them again and again. I looked for a pair to give to my brother so he didn't feel so down about his POS, but nothing came my way. Buy them if you can get them for $125 or less. The magnetic field is intense, but possitioning can solve any conflicts with your TV. Watch your output as cops love to knock on my door.

Strength:

1 tweet , seperate mid , two 8 inch drivers. All polypropaline. Great appearence. Ability to handle 85 watts of clean power. Good cabinet. Port in the back also! These middle weight drivers can take abuse and still perform. Distortion will take place before the coils melt. Cheap!!

Weakness:

No insulation in the cabinet. Poor cross over. Speakers need to be positoned properly for best sound. High magnetic field...keep away from the TV. Strange marketing technique.

Well....i purchased a set of the 830LR speakers at a 7-11 for $100.00. I have to say that i got a good deal. The drivers are polypropaline, paradigm and high quality speakers are made from this material. i push 40 watts of clean power and the drivers move well. I have also expiremented with positioning of these speakers and for the best bottom end i could get was raising the 2 woofers, that are 8"inch in diameter up to ear level. i will admit that they lack a bit of bottom end but that is because the very bottom driver is not crossed over for just bass. These towers sitting on the floor provide quality sound also. The weight of these speakers are what sold me on them. Weight is a good thing. Why? Quality components are heavey. These speakers have enough material to provide very good sound. Experiment with the positioning in your home. For best performance i recommend raising them off the floor. I am going to purchase a PW2200 paradigm subwoofer and run 100 watts from a Manantz amp and i am confident that these AudioPhiles will provide more then enough mid and high range for the rest of the sound Beacause that is what they do best. I have to say that if you paid anywhere from $5.00 to $400.00 for these speakers you got a good deal. You will never find the sound that these speakers produce for under that!! Despite the shaddy selling technique...you just have to be a good wheeler and dealer. I don't buy junk....these were worth a $100.00 a pair brand new in the box. Although after reading the reviews and finding out that no one bought them in a store i will have too get them checked out for any harmful components. other then that i have to give the audiophiles a thumbs up!!! great buy if you can talk them down!! Actually they will take anything you have to offer. "GOOD TIMES"

Strength:

Thay are heavy and are great paper weights.

Weakness:

Weren't scientifically tested for QC before being packaged as Revel wanabees!

No offese to anyone but you need to PLEASE expand your listening horizons (All you that have rated these speakers well)! For the sake of Science I acquired a pair of these “transducers” and took them back to a testing facility for analysis. These speakers are a scam in every way. The frequency response is all over the chart. The Phase response is erratic. Imaging is poor.High frequencies sound like a torture device! Other than the fact that the two speakers have different crossover points and are bass heavy (Dirty) I don't know what else to say about them. PLEASE stay away from this stuff. Broaden your acoustical horizons and your ears will be able to pick up that quality doesn't amount or equate with quantity. Go to a reputable CEDIA or PARA authorised retailer and listen to what good sound is like.

Strength:

Not the best, but I'd rate them 7.5 out 10 in bass and highs resonse. Stylish look.

Weakness:

The people that work for the company are con- artist!!!

Just like everyone else I bought these from two complete strangers after they obviously observed me making a bank deposit. Although it's been 3 days since then, Im still pissed off at those sneaky a** holes from pursading me into thinking I was getting a superbargin. I should have known by his hyper-eagerness to get me to the ATM to make a withdrawl - that he was up to no damn good! But anyway my heart felt uneasy until I got home to check the internet about the 583LR series of speakers - and what I found only made matters worse. Although I'm still pissed at those fools, they quality is not bad at all. They give an impressive bass and high's response. They boast a 400watt capacity - I'm feeding them only 50watts from an ALTEC LANSING AMP. They're worth at most $150/pair new...

Im giving it all the power shes got captain! (ya need juice, watts, to show there good side)

(bad trade) All I have to say is that I miss my PSone and my sick Kenwood deck, other than that there not so bad of speakers. Actually there pretty good. My brother had some sick Sony house speakers that he bought for around $1600 w/ reciever and had to import from Japan because they wern't out yet. I hooked the old Audiofile speakers up to a cheesy Kenwood 200 watts a channel piece of crap and they would blow those purdy Sony's away! Im happy with them, but still want my PSone w/ screen and kenwood car deck back. Those are for my damn CRX for snowboarding and other trips.

Haven't got a clue where they came from.

Wow! This scam is everywhere! What a trip. As far as the quality goes I hooked them up as surrounds on my 300 watt Aiwa and wasn't happy so rewired them as the subs and they rock! I have cranked the system up listening to movies and C.D.'s and am totally happy. It's to bad some people had to pay so much......But you know what they say.....How much is it worth? Exactly what you paid for it.
