never falling for this again!!!

Weakness:

i was scammed!!!

yo whats up,

i never knew about this whole '2 con artists in a white van selling stuff' talk until i just entered this site about 20 minutes ago, i wish i was warned before yesterday. like i know there are con artist out there but now its all to real. yesterday afternoon (november 22nd, 2000) i was working on the recycling truck picking up paper and enjoying the sunshine with knock off time in sight when these two boguns come flying past in a white van yelling jibberish out to my driver (pat) about something. so the van pulls over and pat pulls over and he hops out of the truck and heads towards the van, i walk over to the van also to see what is going on and i realize that they're selling speakers branded "acoustic image." there were 2 dudes in their early-mid 20's. i instantly thought it was a scam but the main dude who was doing all the talking had some wack accent that was pretty convincing. the other guy was talking a tiny bit but was mainly leaving it all up to the king of talk. he was way excited, blabbing on about how his boss wants them sold by dayz end and if they sell them they get like $100 in their pockets. they were $850 a set reduced from a 'crazy' $1450. this dude was screaming 'bargain' and 'mega deal' amongst other things, showing real interest in our sterios asking us about our setups. they only had 2 sets left and were saying that they had just gone bizzerk selling them to everyone. the low key guy pulled one of the box and they looked pretty spiffy. both men had shorts on and these blue polo shirts with their company name printed on (east coast sound) which made them look fair dinkum. i suddendly become interested because i was actually looking at getting some home speakers soon to beef up my pioneer system. by this time i thought they were dope speakers and i was sucked in. so i started asking questions, like "is the bass good" and stuff like that. pat was also interested in the speakers because he loves his music too. i don't know if i sort of talked pat into it or not but before we knew it we had cut the deal and bought a set each. they followed us down to the local ATM and we withdrew $850 each. we handed over our hard earned bucks in return for the speakers and a lame reciept. i've compared specifications with top of the range sony speakers and it's all pretty much the same. whether the specifications are true or not is a differnt story. i know jack about home speakers but to me they work fine, sound excellent ant really pump out the music. as soon as i entered this site and realized other people have been getting rolled just like me i was totally unhappy and still am, i feel like i should have known better and told them to cram their speakers where they fit best. however, i'm going to look into it a bit furthur by checking this site out a bit more and i will also visit the bonza hi-fi store in the city to see whats up. everyones been telling me i've been ripped but i'm unsure at this stage. if they turn out to be totally wack i might just try to sell them for like $600 or something. i'm going to warn all my friends about this type of stuff because it's all bad. if u see 2 yuppies in a van selling stuff tell them to back off. if i see these guys again i'm going to get revenge big time, i especially want to punch out the dude with the accent. (i forget his name, but it was probably fake anyway) at least i have learn't a valuable lesson which is not to take part in this type of thing again losing $850 in this way is bad but it ain't gonna kill me. look out!!!

First of all, I can say I'm lucky because it wasn't me. The sucker is my friend. We had just had lunch in Alexandria, VA., and were about to drive off when these two guys pulled up in a blue nissan with a topper on the back. They seemed to be in a real hurry. Claimed they had some home stereo systems that didn't get delievered and they were trying to get rid of them. All they wanted was to make a little money off of them. They claimed that they had already been paid for, had the vouchers, sales receipt, all of it. I actually thought it was a good deal after they showed us the receipts. I guess we should have known something was sour when they pulled out laminated spec sheets. What delivery person carries around that. Anyways, be on the lookout. They're pretty professional, had shirts and everything with the name of their bogus company. I got the license plate number but I don't guess there's too much to do about it.

Its the same as everyone else here... it was two guys with a red truck, the exact same story as everyone else. the "sond division" , NC plates, EVERYTHING. they were "bonded delievery guys and the bar said they didnt order them... my boss will get them if i dont... blah blah blah"
I, like other ppl here, figured 225 for the speakers was ok, even if they werent "1500 speakers sold only to clubs" and i KNEW it was fake when the guy mentioned that "they accept a dolby digital signal" "wait, they are powered?" "um, yeah" ... whats really nuts is i had 3 people telling me to walk away. but i guess its a good scam. actually, the only reason i bought them was because i was at a cash machine and my friend lent me money. How many people do you know that carry $200 in cash?

All that said, while i dont use them as my main speakers, I did test them out. They work fine and sound fine. A comment in favor might say "what's worse? being taken by some guys on a truck or being taken by a guy in a suit at the store?" Many speakers out there today are not worth what they are sold for, and these are no different.

For the people who bought into this scam, heres the lesson. First, you wont ever buy like that again. Second, you already spent the money so try to enjoy them!

Strength:

very high highz' tweets sound great!

Weakness:

not very good handling bass. Except win you add a woofer to it.

Not like the other reviews I actually traded a pair of old mtx 10' car speakers for the 6.5 mini tower. My friend told me he had bought them for $200 from a U-haul truck across from his house. They had told him they were worth $1200 which in turn told me about the whole thing. He's been wanting my mtx's for a good while so I told him to show me these so called $1200 speakers. I went to check them out. They were eye catching. Took them home and they sounded great, especially the tweets. My mtx's were in no value of course. They were very old and in sun burned condition. I went for the trade. I guess I won in this case since my mtx's were corodded and he was in need for some car speakers. I got new ones while he got the old onez'. If anyone knows the true value of these speakers please E-mail me at Ltnsociety @ Aol.com.

Strength:

Sounds pretty descent

Weakness:

None so far

Well, I can't say I'm an expert at speaker systems, and I could actually describe myself as a novice. But I think the sound that the Loudspeakers produce are pretty good. They are crisp and clean and have some nice base. I bought them from the back of a Purple Durango in Oakbrook Terrace. Same old scam. I knew it was so I didn't pay too much for them, but they were pretty determined to sell them to me. My husband and I were looking for a descent buy as it was. If I could do it again I wouldn't buy them on whim like I did, by I'm not entirely regretful, they sound good to me.

Everything... They are absolutely crap.

This is a product that is part of a scam. Read all about this scam at http://www.frii.com/%7Erjn/audio/whitevan.htm. Of course you would not pull up this model if you had not been taken but the product is absolute crap. If you paid more than $50 per set of speakers, you were taken. The best advice I could give you is to return them the day you get them. Of course you will have to follow the FTC return/cancellation procedures.

I just bought these from a friend of mine who's a cop for $40. He got them at his police auction for probably $20-40. I just jumped on the net to try to put a value on them and after 15 minutes, found this page. I have a friend who fell for this scam and She paid $400 a pair for the same or similar speakers (I haven't been over to see them yet). I haven't listened to them yet but from the comments here, they may be barely worth what I paid. Since there were many of these at the police auction, something was obviously illegal for the cops to have seized them. I'm guessing the sales practices (fraud, deception, operating without a liscense etc).

right, we all know acoustic reference/response etc are a pile of poo. however, if you got scammed in london you can get your money back.

the manager of the company 'global audio network letd' in london is called David Wilkinson (dago@globalnet.co.uk), and you can reach him via 0208 903 6243 (you'll get the sales person, Sam, or another guy called Rob if you ring before 10am). Acoustic Reference Ltd are listed as coming from the same offices as Global Audio Network Ltd, but from investigations with Wandsworth Trading Standards, there are a number of small businesses in this complex, most of whom are 'normal' businesses.

Wembley Office:
Unit 4, Abbey Wharf, Abbey Estate, Mount Pleasant, Alperton, Middlesex HA0 1TS, UK

Battersea Office (registered company address of Global Audio Network Ltd and Acoustic Reference Ltd)

The Glassmill, 1 Battersea Bridge Road, London, SW111 3BG

acousticreference.com's admin contact is David Wilkinson
dago@globalnet.co.uk

Good Luck,
Let me know of any further success stories.
