Strength:

Well...the carpet on the box is nice and fuzzy.

Weakness:

Umm...did I mention it had nice carpet on the box? I think that restating the good thing is easier than listing the bad stuff.

I bought the speakers two years ago, and from the looks of this website these guys have been moving all around the country. I worked at a gas station and two guys in their late-20's or early 30's bought some stuff from our store and then asked me if I wanted to buy some speakers. They claimed they worked for an audio company in Denver, and that the company had overstocked their delivery van (a white van, caravan style) and that they wanted to get rid of the speakers because the company would never notice. I know, fishy fishy fishy. But it sounded like a sweet deal at the time. They showed me a business card which appeared genuine along with an invoice for the order to the nightclub, and additionally gave me their work numbers to check out the legitimacy if I had any problems with them (incidentally, the paper with their names and numbers went through the washing machine that evening). They also showed me a very genuine looking advertisement which showed the speakers retail at $800 apiece, so how can I pass up $100 apiece, right?

Anyway, I bought them in hopes of reselling them and making a small profit. Unfortunately every pawn shop in town knows about these two so no hope there. They've been sitting in my basement for two years until last night when I opened them up for a friend who was interested in buying them. We hooked them up to a guys car amp and, as you can imagine, I tried hard to keep a straight face as they eminated a pretty nasty tone. Overall, I would say they sound decent if you want to hook them up to your stereo in your room. But once you start cranking that volume high, it sounds terrible.

On a final note, I started wondering if something was really fishy when the following week (after I had bought them, again this is 1998) my best friend was approached by the same two guys in the parking lot of his bank.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL. IT IS OBVIOUS THESE GUYS ARE ON THE MOVE. Most of the posts here are from the midwest, but they were here in Colorado 1 1/2 years ago. THEY WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE UNLESS WE CAN STOP THEM.

good for P.A./DJ

First of all, for the people who got "scammed" I have one thing to say: CAVIAT EMPTOR! For those of you whose naivity led to an impulse purchase you have my sympathy. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I paid $120 even for the pair of these Acoustic 9901's at a local pawn shop. They were new and the price seemed fair. It appears that the bulk of the people who complain are more ticked about the price paid vs how they sound. MY PERSONAL RATINGS: They have real crossover networks built onto the jackplates . I went one step further and installed a 1/4" Phone Jack in the open space of each jackplate to allow the use of 1/4" Phone Plugs as used with standard P.A.-type cables. I'm a long time musician and soundman, so I know good quality from crap. For what I paid for them they sound decent and serve their purpose. They work great for DJ/P.A./Monitor applications, and I see them hanging from the walls of many bars and dance floors. They handle an ample amount of power and sound pretty decent, especially if you dial in the desired amount of EQ. They do need to be fed a modest amount of power to "come alive" and start sounding decent. Overall they work good for what I paid for them.

not all that sure, was used as paper weight.

Weakness:

Sucks as a paper weight

I don't understand why a paper weight costs $9000. I latter found out that it was some sort of speeker, so i said, hey i need a new speeker, well i was expecting low quality for $9000, but these where were worse than Dolby suround sound speekers! the smallest speakers i want to buy are 10 inchers! I was so pissed that i had to take a long vacation in european mansion! those S.O.B's!

If we find the guys, can be used to smash their windshield.

Weakness:

Kinda bulky to lug around

Add Colorado to list. Happened in a bank parking lot. Two white guys (I think they were sleeping together...), overshipped, blah blah blah. I feel like a tool. Oh well, we'll get them back, somehow... Tell everyone you know, tell the media, etc. Stop these a$$wipes!

Weakness:

cheap sound

Fell for same scam bought 2 pair one to use the other to sell. These guys were good, they appealed to the greed in all of us. Everyone wants to get something for nothing! At first I was angry but now i just feel foolish. Nobody twisted my arm to buy these things. I look at it as an expensive lesson. The only way to stop this scam is to tell as many people as you can (even though its embarassing).Call your local tv station or your local paper, maybe you can at least help someone else from making the same mistake.

Strength:

Weakness:

Fell for it after 45 minute struggle

I finished reading all these reviews and whoever says it's not a scam, they are in it so don't believe it!!!
Well, this goes to prove you why people can't trust no one. We all try to help someone but once a lesson has been learned, you will not do it again. I used to give homeless money, pick up hitch hickers to avoid them walikng hundreds of miles, and even bought merchandise from people to help them make a few dollars while getting a good deal at the same time. Now, after yesterday, I have learned a lesson. This incident has been recorded into my brain and it wll stay forever because of fools like these that just try o rip people off with their hard worked money. All I can say is, just take it as a bad experience, learn from it, and move on. "What goes around, comes around". Their vehicles change so pointing out what they drive is useless. Take plate numbers, where the plates are from, and call the ploice right away. Do not ride with them because it is the most stupid thing to do. I did it and I feel like sh@# for riding with them. Losing some cash ain't that bad but losing your life is!!!! Don't fall for no sales on the streets. Just buy from a known source and you will be better off. I have not tried these speakers but if they don't sound close to $250.00 for the pair, they will sure be gone in a fire!!! SPREAD THE WORD BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!!!!!!!!!
