Strength:

Solid sound
high power handling
crystal clear

Weakness:

looks very ugly with the grille off but sounds better with it on anyway

This speaker is great. I have torture tested it with all types of movies and with music as well in 5 channel stereo on my Denon. It sounds crystal clear and even at high volume levels it did not falter.

I took initialy CC-170 to my home theater system (yamaha 995 receiver and s-700 DVD). it was OK - until i've got live concert, recorded on DVD. sound wasn't clear enough, lows and mids weren't deep enough.i've changed it to CC-350 - wouldn't say that this a perfect speaker, but it's MUCH better (and more expensive), i'm pleased with it.

Just picked this up today. What a great center channel. Blends perfect with my Paradigm Mini Monitors. I think that the CC-350 is too big to stick upon my small 20" TV. The CC-170 fits perfect. I used to have a Bose, I know I heard enough, center. This new Paradigm Center is much better by about 5,000X. I wacthed Tomorrow Never Dies to test it out. And i heard everything and stuff I think that I was missing. The soundstage was really BIG. This is a great center if you are on a budget like me and don't have a huge TV to stick the CC-350 on.

Thanks Paradigm for showing me what I was missing all this time!!!

5 stars.

The build quality is great for 200 dollars. I loked in the port with a flashlight and saw the huge magnets on this thing. I am very happy :)

Strength:

Great center speaker!

Weakness:

none...

This is an awesome center... blends well with my Mini Mon's... I would've gone for the larger sub, but i only have a 27" TV... The CC-370 is much larger!! I love this center though... I'd suggest it to anyone needing a good center for a good price.

Strength:

very clear sound.

Weakness:

none so far.

i just bought this center speaker for my existing paradigm phantom speakers and they are truly matched (which they should be). the dialogues in movies are clear and there is a seamless integration with the other paradigm performance series speakers. i will give 5 stars for this set of speakers (paradigm recommended speaker sets) not because i am trying to justify my purchase but it truly deserves this rating in my opinion.

Strength:

Clarity and good bass for a Center channel.

Weakness:

None really! The larger CC-370 model has fuller range and is better match if you have the monitor series speakers for fronts.

This Center Channel is a great addition to anyones Home Theater with a budget. Provides clear vocals and bass. I've use this center channel along with Paradigm Mini Monitors for fronts without a subwoofer for 11 months now. (Just ordered the Paradigm PS-1200 for low frequency)
The bass is very nice from this center channel and I wouldn't hesitate to buy. If you have the space and extra cash go with the matching CC-370 instead. I give this a 5 star for value and 4 star for overall.

The best center channel for only $175. Voiced are focused at this unit. It has better bass then all in its price range. Great mediem priced speaker if you do not want to spend the $300 on the cc-350.

I recently bought the CC-170 as a centre speaker to use with my Paradigm Titans (Front left and right) and Micros (rear). For most of the last year, I had read how important it was to use a matching centre speaker and that 80% of the noise (in Home theatre) comes from the centre speaker. I knew I wanted one, but my budget said "wait".
Nonetheless, when I finally got the centre speaker, I was still surprised at hom much better the system sounded. All the cliches "seamless, wide sound stage" suddenly made perfect sense. I am very happy and agree with other reviewers that the Paradigm range is great value.

Other gear includes a Yamaha RXV 592 receiver, Yamaha CDC 665 CD player, and Sony SLV 827 Video. Still have not made the leap to Dolby Digital and DVD, but I feel that the Paradigm speakers will do quite nicely. Although, I am a wee bit concerned about the ability of the 592 and Micros to do justice to the full bandwidth of the Dolby Digital in the rear. Hopefully, a digital decoder which can recognise different size speakers will partly help out. Not sure what to do about the measly power of the 592 on the rears.

BTW I was very impressed with the Tannoy Mercury M2's and the matching centre but I got all the Paradigm stuff at good prices... Mostly second hand.

Recently I purchased a complete new system for music and video. Based on Paradigm Titans for fronts and surrounds, Paradigm SB-90 (passive sub) and the Yamaha RX-V795. I got a LD and a DVD. The idea was - movies with DD, music with DTS or CD. TV/VCR with Dolpy Pro Logic.
My main difficulty was selecting the center. Originally, I thought to buy the CC-170 as reviewes of the CC-150 (its predecessor) described it as a perfect match with the rest of my speakers (didn't find many reviews of the CC-170 at the time). I decided to take the CC-170. It was temporarily out of stock and I was given the LCR-150, which is an older model, no longer sold, but brand new in the interim, when the CC-170 was back in stock, I could take it home, audition it, and decide which one to keep.

Amazingly, the practically unreviewed, un-heard-of LCR-150 sounded MUCH BETTER than the CC-170. Much closer to the sound of the Titan v2. Although the CC-170 is supposedly timbre-matched with the Titans, it sounded very different, very distorted at the highs and mids. It was even painful during some dialogs.

Of course, I stayed with the LCR-150 and I don't understand any good reviewes of the CC-170.

I really like my system now, but the CC-170 was a painful attempt.

(Not regarding sound: the LCR-150 is in the same cabinet as the Titan v2 whereas the CC-170 is in a different enclosure... strange.)
