Strength:

Awesome sound! Great price!

Weakness:

Size! But I can deal with that! Performance makes up for the size!

When I auditioned this particular speaker the store had the cc-150 right next to the cc-170 he played both and let me tell you, the difference was amazing! The 170 blew it away not saying that the 150 isnt great but for $50 more You cant beat it!

Strength:

High power handling. Great for 5 channel stereo. Non-irratating highs. Good value. Solid Build. Clear Clear audio.

Weakness:

NOt enough abss to be a large Center Channel, but since I have everything on small, its good.

I got this center channel after buying the Mini Monitors. I think that this is a great center channel as it handle all the DD and Pro Logic movies I watch with ease. Its sounds great on 5 channel Stereo mode too. It cna be used or set to large for center but I would not recommand it, because the dual 5.25" woofers can't put out the bass. But set it on small, and it will do a great job. I think that this is the best center channel out there for the 150 USD I spent on it. I dont think that the CC-350 is worth the extra money, or if it would really fit on top on my TV. I highly recommand this and I am sure it wont disappoint you.

Strength:

Very clear, doesn't distort, removable grille

Weakness:

A bit lacking in the low frequencies

The cc-170 is a superb addition to a mid-end home theater system. The speaker is very crisp and clear in the high end of the spectrum, but a bit lacking in the low end. However this is a small complaint as this can easily be circumvented by setting the center channel to 'small' on your receiver so the low frequencies can be channeled to the main speakers or subwoofer.
The cc-170 is rather large, and hence has a large footprint. Not a problem if you have a big screen TV as it can sit on top.
The speaker is rear-ported so it must be set some distance from the rear walls. The grille is removable (why do people like leaving the grilles off?!) so you can show your friends.
This speaker deserves a 4 star rating, with one point being knocked off for lack of bass. For the price, I'd be hard-pressed to find a better center channel.

Strength:

Clear audio, Fairly accurate in the low tones.

Weakness:

A little big.

This speaker is a bargain for the price, after hearing my friend's bose surround system I was hooked on getting my own. The sales guy at Nat Sound recommended the paradigms to me over the bose, and when I heard the difference I was sold. The paradigms were the best sounding for the price range I had set out for myself, so you won't get any complaints from me.

Strength:

Sound, value

Weakness:

None so far

The performance of this speaker is way above its price range. After a fairly detailed research, CC-170 was an obvious choice. Paradigm is known for making great value speakers and this is no exception. You could find a better center, but you'll have to pay at least twice as much.

However, the main reason why I went with this one was that it matched my Infinity fronts really well, and at this price, much better than some others I looked at.

In short, it's a 5-star speaker in its class.

Strength:

Acurate Vocals

Weakness:

None

Probably the most important fuction of the center is to match the fronts. Different speaker manufactures across the front will produce a unbalanced sound and take away from the movie and or CD. I have Paradigm Titans as my fronts which are matched perfectly with the CC-170, same components, including the crossover electronics.
This center is very impressive, once broken in. It produces very accurate vocals. I am a big fan of Sarah McLachlan and Anny from the Eurythmics, both have an excessive vocal range. This center produces their vocals very nicely.
I don't understand why people continue to say this center and others have poor bass charactoristics. Isn't that the other speakers job and manly the sub. This unit produces a great vocal bass range.
Paradigm produces, I beleive, the best speaker because they manufactor all the components themselves which controls quality and have access to a Very High Tech Canadaian Sound Facility for reaserch and development.

Strength:

This is a very powerful and yet clear sounding speaker for this price range and, for that matter, even higher price ranges. I have been very impressed with the sound it puts out when playing movie soundtracks. Everything sounds so clear, even when it is driven at fairly loud levels. I would recommend it totally to anyone.

Weakness:

I don't know of any so far. I am puzzled why Paradigm uses foam surrounds for the midrange drivers when they obviously prefer rubber for their more upscale lines of speakers. Is it just for keeping the price down? Are there foam surrounds that hold up over the long haul?

I love this speaker! It has brought movie soundtracks to life! I hear things I never knew were there! A bargain!
