Strength:

none

Weakness:

no clarity, muddy sound, hard to equalise with other speakers even bose.

I have used this centre channel for about 8 weeks hoping it would improve and realise now I should have taken it straight back when I bought it. I constantly found myself turning the volume up to hear dialogue which simply made the sound LOUDER but certainly not clearer. I constantly found myself straining to hear what people were saying and then when the sound effects came on it would blow me away, I got sick of this very quickly and found listening to DVD's very annoying and not the pleasure I was hoping for. Anyway I have now returned it and purchased the NHT supercentre and the improvement is certainly evident. I am looking now at upgrading my front 301's for NHT 1.5's however the matching centre channel is the NHT audiocentre-1, so I may get that instead for tonal matching with the 1.5's. Can anyone recommend the NHT range of speakers?
In conclusion do not get this Bose speaker it is overpriced and sounds terrible and I quite like Bose but am starting to realise they are definately not to be used for HT.
Ps: no amount of amp speaker set-up adjustment helped.

Set-up:
Fronts: Bose 301 (to be upgraded)
Centre: NHT supercentre (quite good - much clearer)
Rears: Bose 100 (sound quite good for surrounds)
Amp: Yamaha 596a

The VCS-10, what could I say about it? Well I will start off buy saying that it is very flat sounding in a bad way. There is not a hint a high frequencies to be found coming out of this joke of a center channel speaker. My bad time got worse when I contacted Bose to ask how to set the crossover in my set up. I kept hearing that it was "Full Range" and "we don't publish that information" I felt as if I was talking to a brick wall. I got not one reasonable reason for all the Hush hush about this speaker. I understand the fact that bass is impossible from a small center speaker, but why would treble be so hard to reproduce from a so called "full range" speaker. I have learned more about what makes speakers bad by buying Bose products and taking them back than I care to admit. I like to get what I pay for, in this case I got the shaft, big time. Basicly the sound that came out of this speaker durring movies was poor. A lot of sound comes out of your center channel speaker as I latter found out. Now if this speaker was 50 bucks I would have no gripe, but it was 179 and that is no bargin. The small size is the only thing that I could think of that is a benefit to the VCS-10. This is a consideration if you have a 19" TV, but most of us don't these days. I would say stay far away from this speaker.

Strength:

Sleek design, relatively small, Bose name, relatively cheap, non-directional

Weakness:

Frequency response, muddy

At the time I purchased a full Bose system (701, 301) and I wanted to match them with the same sounding center.
Overall I do not think that it is an absolute horrible speaker, however it is not very high quality either.
A nice thing about it that it is very small and people that come to visit know immediately that you are in the business...

I did like the fact that the dialogue is quite non directional (sounds the same no matter where you are in the room). On the other hand, it has narrow response (noting above 12Khz and nothing below 150Hz

Bottom line - good for TV shows, but not for the serious home theater enthusiast.

It is relatively cheap.

Strength:

Matches my main speakers very well, seemless surround sound, acurate reproduction.

Weakness:

Limited frequency response.

I bought it over the summer and it sounds great to me.

I have:
Yamaha HTR-5240
Bose 301 - IV main
Bose 100 rear
AR S112PS 12" sub

I have watched DVD's with this system the sound reproduction was incredible. I am pleased with my speaker with the exception of the paper drivers. Unlike most of Bose's products which come with lifetime warranties, this product's is only 1 year... with paper drivers I am not supprised.

Match my 301's perfectly. If you have Bose speakers don't hesistate to buy this center so long as Bose has no other model.
