Strength:

Detailed highs, Fast recovery, Accuracy of Midfield and Bass, Creamy mids, Tight and punchy bass.

Weakness:

Not very low bass, not very important for me.

I was amazed with the detail presentation from my DM601, I use them in studio, and i could listen to them for hours and hours. They present a very good stereo image, very accurate. The highs are a bit colorful, lows are tight and fast. The whole speaker sounds a bit harsh, but that is what i want. What amazed me is how fast are the speakers. I could compare them to Genelec 1030, KRK Rokit 8 and others, I find that these speakers are not very good for critical mixing because i feel that they rolloff highs, but they are good for music production, and on the other side i find that i mix better with a speaker that sound like the 601.
One thing that bothers me is that the speaker has not much lows such as 45 Hz, but that is ok with me, many studio monitors that i have lisened to perform like this, and especially like the DM601.
The speaker sounds very very neutral, but not very musical which i appreciate.
I run them with Rotel RB-971mk2.

Strength:

Details, Clarity, build quality, great in all areas except low bass.

Weakness:

none really, bass might not go very low, but what do you expect from a small speaker.

I got these speakers off ebay for a decent price and their condition was top class. I have them connected to my Yamaha RXV396 Amp, with Supra Rondo Biwire cable(what hifi best buy), interconnect is PROFIGOLD PGD481 COAXIAL DIGITAL LEAD (another award winner) connected to digital out of audigy card in pc via minijack-RCA adapter. my sub is yamaha YST SW205 with crossover set at 70hz for music, 90hz for movies. these speakers are top class, they are very detailed, I hear new sounds that I couldnt before with my old speakers. Sound is smooth and clean. Bass is tight and punchy, doesnt go very low but its a small speaker. Overall I'd say for music and dvd its a quality speaker, for its pricerange you wont find much better then this.

Strength:

Tight, clean sound. Excellent quality. Great bang for your buck. Bi-Wire capable.

Weakness:

Missing the deep bass and covered in (reasonably attractive) vinyl. Weaknesses to be expected from a $400 bookshelf speaker.

The DM601 is an outstanding and versatile speaker. They make a great rear speaker for HT and can be tucked away on a book shelf if your needs warrant. I've been using mine for 5 years as my main (and only) speakers for stereo. With proper placement they sound quite impressive. I purchased them expecting to use them in a small room but have mostly been using them in larger rooms and they've risen to the task better than expected. I'm using an aging 200 W/side Adcom and I think the extra power helps make these little speaker sound as great as they do. Everything is as I expect from B&W - Solid, Clear, Tight. Picking up a used pair of these wouldn't cost one much and they were a smokin' deal at $400 new. I'm upgrading now to 604s3 but will hang on to the 601's for another system or future HT.

Strength:

Details. Bass is quite precise.

Weakness:

To much focus on details. First you hear a clear and a detailed sound but it is tiring in the long run.

This speaker has a good reputation, but at my oppinion it is to much focused on details. Speakers from UK has a tendensy to deliver details and the brighter notes fast and "upfront". After a while I got tired of this. The metal domes may be the worst problem. What I, in the beginning, thought was clear and detailed sound irritated me in the long run. I have changed amp betwen Denon, NAD, Rotel and Yamaha - same problem. Also different CDs and vinyl players were tried. Maybee I should avoid speakers called monitors. Monitors are great for studios - but who need to have details thrown into their face. Listen to live music and you know what I mean. Monitors is a tool to find errors while the recording was made, but often lousy performers at home. I ended up with a pair of used Dali 102 - much better at my taste, they play music.

Great speaker. YOU MUST BIWIRE FOR BEST SOUND THOUGH. Much more "ordinary" if single wired. I would give 4 1/2, but, since I can't:

Strength:

Clean mid frequencies, excellent overall response, accurate sound

Weakness:

Not the best at low volume. Tends to be a bit bright if not properly matched

I've owned this pair of speakers for almost 3 years and they still sound great to me. It´s not a cliche, cause most of us usually get bored or used to the sound of a speaker. In my case it matches perfectly with my Arcam Alpha 7 Cd and my Monster Cables. However the cannot fill large rooms due to their size. I recommend this speaker to any other in their price range

Strength:

Good built quality

Weakness:

poor clarity, bad filter and discoloured sound

Just recently tested the new 600 S2 and the clarity is much better. My 601 had been demoted to rear surround. It sounds worse everytime i listen to it. Time to cough up the money for the new range.

a Casual Listener

Based on the reviews on this site I decided to go to listen to the 601's.As many of you I was surpriced of the sound produced by them. I've fitted them with an advised subwoofer (Yahama, active) and combined them with CC6 in a 5.1 system (rear are Warfdales satelites).
Even on various music choices (from Vivaldi to The Cure, from typical Irish to Dutch originated) and various types of movies I am still very impressed.
When listening to this set I 've compared them to systems of more than 5 times their price (I've paid about $300 the pair). They sounded (combined with the subwoofer) much better.

For me the fun of listening increased and I know spent more time listening than ever before.

Strength:

Very accurate, smooth, incredible mid range clarity

Weakness:

thin on bass if not in proper room or matched with proper components

I have owned these speakers for almost 2 years and everyday I love them more and more. I have a fairly small listening area and they work great but they will fill the whole house if I want them to. I use a Rotel RCD-930 CD Player and a Rotel RA-931 Integrated Amp. I believe this system for the money is the best value out there. I have purchased MIT HT3 speakers cable about 1 year ago and I also have MIT HT5 Interconnects - I tell ya, its unbelievable how good you can make these babies sound with a few small tweaks. B&W makes the best speakers on the planet no matter what price your looking at.
