Weakness:

Media cost

I bought this device second hand for £65 on eBay after falling in love with it at first sight. The device is very small and light. The sound quality is amazing, and very loud! The controls are intuitive and the screen excellent. Battery life is also good at around 4hours continuous use. The only stumbling block is the expensive media - £55 for 64Mb! Now, the software! I have seen a lot of reviews that criticise the software for being buggy and extremely unstable. I am using V1.1 of OpenMG and find it supremely stable and easy to use, and that is on non-factory-installed Win Me! One last thing, all you people that write bad reviews simply because it does not work with Win 200, READ THE BOX or the website! It clearly states that it requires 98!

Weakness:

Will not work with Win2K Media is expensive Support is terrible

This product was useful and performed well until I upgraded my OS to WIN2000. After upgrade this unit WILL NOT WORK with my system. Sony after market tech support is awful and after several months of trying, I had to give up.

Strength:

Small Size Styling Removable RAM - u can use more than one set of songs Jog Dial was very innovative

Weakness:

SUPPORT - it absolutely SUCKS. SONY has just sold the sticks and forgotten about it. NO support plan, No migration plan to other OS.

I have used the NW-MS7 for 3 years. It was the smallest portable audio device at that time. The styling was another plus. I had to upgrade to Win2K and since then the stick has been useless as the OS does not recognise it. TOTAL WASTE

Strength:

Quality, use top notch headphones for best quality, and use MG128mb MS, download the best quality and you will have flawless music on the go ...

Weakness:

Battery definitely, come on Sony we wanted some sort of battery adaptor, its okay for a days use, but when you go away for the weekend, I have to take my Sony minidisc.

Personally I think my NW-MS7 rocks the world, I have used other MP3 players, Thompson, Intel to name but a few and think by using my 128mb MS to store music is much more practical rather than stored internally.

Strength:

Small for the time, nice design.

Weakness:

Not an mp3 player by anyone but Sony''s definition. Must use their software to transfer files which is badly written and crashes. Very disappointed in Sony''s appauling after care.

No online support from Sony after repeatedly contacting them when experiencing problems. Software badly written and blue screens regularly. Must be sent off to work with win2000 and new drivers only came out at the end of 2001 apparently. Overall very bad experience. Lost trust in Sony especially due to their indifference to support. Was considering buying a vaio but will definately not now as again new operating systems require driver suport which I would not trust Sony to give.

Lots of other software that isn''t a load of rubbish. Lots of manufacturers who actually support their customers rather than grab their money and leave them in the cold.

Strength:

High quality of sound, nice design, ability to get more memory (memory sticks)

Weakness:

IMPORTANT RESTRICTION!!! You can only play legalized MP3's. There has to be paid a copyright. You can only play MP3 files downloaded from the sites Sony has een agreement with. Copyrighted music can only 3 times being copied. This product uses also a different sound format (ATRAC). It restricts you to share your files with friends who use another MP3-player with the standard compression.

I don't understand the meaning of this....Please mail me if you can tell me more about others brands. With very kind regards,Pieter

Strength:

Nice design. SONY expected quality.

Weakness:

SONYs parasitic marketing ploys. Does not RUN on W2000. No upgrades. I will never ever buy SONY equipment again, and whats more will make sure my peers are aware. Cost of memory is a JOKE! MG Software is very poor and slow.

Dont do it! Stick to compact flash memory players.

Strength:

Looks really cool. Still waiting to use it properly.

Weakness:

OpenMG software simply does not work with Windows 2000

Bought the NW-MS7 in December 2000. Unfortunately, the OpenMG software that comes with the product simply does not run on Windows 2000.

Have emailed with Sony and thwy said I should wait for the software upgrade to be available in January 2001. January came and went. Now in March and still no sign of the software upgrade.

Have emailed with Sony customer support who said that they cannot help me.

The Walkman sits on my desk gathering dust. I would really love to use it but unless I downgrade my operating system to unbearably slow and buggy Windows 98 it will remain silent.

The only other computer I have is Linux, no hope of OpenMg on Linux though.
