Strength:

Doesn't skip

Weakness:

VERY CRAPPILY built, bass sucks when you go beyond the halfway volume mark,

This item does not skip. That's the only good feature. The lid feels like it's gonna break off, the buttons feel like they'll pop off with slightest force, headphone jack is very cheap. It seems like these new discmans are being made sheerly for mass production and high fasion, rather than quality. My D-11 was built with steel re-inforced plastic with a steel base. The sound rocks on it and it still works after 11 years. The others were kina crappy, but the DE-J611 takes the cake and shoves down sony customers throats. I hope that this product doesn't foreshadow Sony's future quality. Don't buy this product, unless you're satified with cheap crap.

Strength:

Exellent skip protection, sweet styling, very light, jogging wrist band, very small, GOOD battery life.

Weakness:

HORRIBLE bass at the very high volume levels, i like disturbed and papa roach...and when i wanna hear loud music on a bus, it is very lacking on bass. Headphones suck, sony portable headphones that come w/their portable products usually suck, so it's nothing new. =)

When i first saw this thing, i was estatic, since it was only 80 bucks...little did i know that the bass would be very lacking at high volume levels. However, it's very light, durable, small, attractive, and doesn't eat batteries ALIVE like my other player did. =)

Strength:

NEVER skips, looks cool, compact, button volume control (not dial), wrist strap, durable, long battery life

Weakness:

no backlighting, plug ports not together, flimsy plastic lid

I just bought this 3 weeks ago and have been extemely happy with it. I owned one of the first generation ESP Sony's (w/ only 3 seconds) and it used to frustrate the hell out of me how much it skipped. I even tried the second generation ESP and I still got the occasional skip. In fact, the reason I had to get is because I destroyed (read: smashed up real good) my last one when it didn't come through in the clutch (bad day at work, needed tunes, unbearable skipping). This "G-protection" is unbeatable. I drive with it, try to make it skip, and even dance while holding it, and IT HASN'T SKIPPED A SINGLE TIME IN 50+ HOURS OF USE. Durability: It feels flimsy but I dropped it on the hardwood floor and it was fine. I can't believe this is only 2nd or 3rd from the bottom in the current Sony lineup. My only beef is that the outlets are placed far apart so it's awkward when you have the AC plug and the line out in use. But that's pretty lame.

Strength:

Good Skip Protection, Compact size, sound quality good without bass on

Weakness:

Bass is horrible when turned up loud, not enough sound options

This cd player is an overall okay cd player but if your looking for something that will handle more bass go with a panisonic cd player. If you dont need bass then get this cd player.

Strength:

Unskipable, the G-PROTECTION feature is awesome

Weakness:

Shell of player is cheap plastic

This thing is great for doing anything with, as far as i can tell it is unskipable. FINALLY, a portable cd player that dosen't skip every 10 seconds!!! I would definietly reccomend this to anyone that is looking for a player for around $100 bucks that is totally annoyed by skipping cd's. The battery life is also awesome and if your not going to be jogging you can actually turn off the skip protection and double the battery life. As far as the only bad thing is the crappy plastic shell on the outside. It is easily scratched leaving the players cool silver finish looking like garbage. They should of used metal but I guess then it would of been much more than $119.00....
Oh, and if you can get your hands on a D-EJ615 go for it, its the same as the D-EJ611 but its got a little remote control built in the headphone wire that is cool as hell. Plus, it comes with rechargable batteries that have great life to them. The 615 is about $20 more but well worth it..
