Strength:

BIG BASS, excellent layout, idiot-proof construction.

Weakness:

Front-firing speakers a little weak. I run this unit close to flat out and while the subwoofers cruise the little speakers start to break up. The built-in limiter circuit sounds weird, I usually turn it off.

I was looking for a portable unit to use for Aerobic Kickboxing classes and knew I had to have BIG BASS toreally get the students going. Did a little research and decided that the JVC KaBoom line of boxes would be my best bet. Unfortunately by the time I started looking for one they were out of production (the big ones anyway). Found a source on eBay who seemed to have an inexhaustible supply. I think this guy was a staff person at one of the last Olympic Games and took part of his pay in a couple of dozen of these units that were the systems used in the athlete's quarters. Anyway, I paid a bundle for the unit but have not been disappointed. The bass is truly room-filling and I teach in a high-ceilinged 40x30 foot room. I always plug it into the wall so the battery issue doesn't matter to me and I keep it in a wheeled duffle that fits it perfectly so moving it around is pretty easy too. I can't understand why manufacturers discontinue such obvious winners in their product lines. I haven't checked lately, but these things have commanded high prices on eBay for at least 3 years after production ended. I have the RVB-90 model, by the way, called the "Urban KaBoom" in the JVC literature.

Strength:

Incredible punding bass. Solid as rock design. Ample listening options. Great pick-up on hte FM dial.

Weakness:

The remote is a little on the fragile side compared to the product it comes with. It eats batteries as if Radio Shack was giving them away. Oftens gets mistaken for a vaccum cleaner.

I have owned 3 JVC Kaboom boxes since they first came out in "1998?" My parents still have the original grey and black one i purchased about 5 years ago. This stereo has been thru it all. It has fallen off of a table two times. The table is about 3 feet off the ground. The only damage was a small dent in the gril for the front speakers. Other then that it just won't die. As for the other two, one military green and the other grey with pretty oink speakers, hihi, i have no complaints. Both have incredible pounding bass and despite the fact that they are both tailgate party machines, they still run like clockwork. And the remote is very handy. And they look great IMO.

Strength:

Good sound, good power, and has CD, tape, tuner and many options. A very rugged design.

Weakness:

Very heavy and every time you remove the batteries to recharge time and preset stations are lost.

We got the JVC Kaboom so my wife would have the power to teach her water arobics class. It was the only one we could find. It has great sound but to play it at high power for an hour had to get 10 D cell NIMH rechargeable 7.5 AH batteries which will run about two hours.

Strength:

Unique design, great sound, lots of bass.

Weakness:

Pretty heavy for a 'portable' unit.

Originally I went looking for a small CD player to listen to while on a vacation at the beach. I was looking at spending $50, maybe $100. As always, I went a little over board and bought this thing. I searched around on the Internet and found it for as low as $300. I ended up buying it at Sam's Club(of all places) for $200.

I never really cared much for JVC products before, but I thought that this box was pretty innovated and had what most portable stereos lack... Bass. And this thing has plenty. It sounds more like a stereo then a boombox. My wife even prefers listening to it more than our stereo. Its heavy (35 lb?), but I guess that's payoff for the dual-subwoofers. The carrying strap is nice and helps with porting it around. Comes with a remote control, which is nice feature that I use a lot. It was definitely the loudest and badest thing on the beach. I never heard anything that come close to this unit.

I really like the rugged look. It sets it apart from most units. Although I'm beginning to see some knockoff brands copying the same design. Very well built; it should last for years. Overall, I’m very happy with the purchase. Really can't beat it for the price.

Strength:

High quality sound, great bass, portable, LOUD,

Weakness:

a little pricey, weighs alot

This unit is really good. The dual subwoofers on each end really boost up the bass. The ACS feature boosts the high frequency treble to make more rendition between sounds. It is very durable, with metal grates over the speakers / subwoofers. Handles on each end, and comes with carrying strap for easy moving. Another great feature is the audio-in port, I sometimes connect it to my computer and listen to my mp3s with it (the 2nd equalizer boosts bass even more). It comes with many small features as well: twin ducts at the back, total of 45 presets, 24 track programming, plus wake-up / sleep timer, etc, etc. (the whole 9-yards). I got this on a deal for about 35% off, which made it a great price. Anyway, i think it is a great system, especially if you can get it at a good price (under 350 cdn). I give it 4 stars out of 5, it is truly a great system.

Weakness:

looks like a tank

I bought this because we wanted a portable unit to take on holiday with us and everything else was dreadful.

It is big and heavy - huge in fact - and eats batteries by the bucketfull.

Sound Quality is reasonable - there is loads of base (too much??) and songs are at least recognisable if not audiophile level.

When not on holiday I use the aux connection from the sound card on my PC (with the unit plugged in to the mains).

Overall its fine - I like to think of it as Arnold Swartzeneggers' Walkman but instead of saying "I'll be back" he says "I broke my back - carrying the bloody thing"

If it had one extra it would be perfect - wheels!!

Strength:

All around contender, Bass response

Weakness:

Need to be an Olympic Weightlifter to Lift one around the beach

I use this Kaboom Boombox pretty much everywhere. I use the AUX feature to hook up my 1200's and 05pro to cut it up and beat juggle...I also use it for my computer sound and music. It is the toughest boombox around. alldisscratchinismakinmeitch...JVC represents hard once again..

Strength:

Deep, dynamic bass, great look, big power, good quality

Weakness:

treble could be better

This unit is a single portable i like. It has so many advantages and can be compared with micro/mini class systems. Many minisystems never had such deep and dynamic bass, which you can adjust also in the wide range. Power of this portable system will impress you, really nothing portable! Quality of deck, tuner and cd player is good. Treble could be better for unit with such rich bass. However, this unit is the REALLY BEST in the world of portables, even better than new model DP100. RV-B99 is the KING OF PORTABLE SYSTEMS!

Strength:

Bass, this box has more bass than than most high end audio systems. The bass is not only loud but also very deep. The controls are well laid out and the simple remote control gives access to all the expected features. Aux input I use this box connected to my dj set-up and computer.

Weakness:

Weighs a lot if you are looking for something portable also takes 10 D batteries and drains them very quickly. Because all the buttos are shared you cannot rewind tapes whilst listening to the cd, tuner or aux input. When recording from cd the machine inserts 2 second gaps between tracks useless for mix cds. Bass can lose its tightness at some frequencies.

This is a must for anybody needing a cheap small cd, tape, tuner combo. It goes loud without losing to much clarity and the bass goes all the way down. Trebles are emphasised by a speacial cicuit to reduce hiss. All in all it is amazing paticularly with any kind of bass heavy music.
