The best bass I've ever heard in any boombox. Can play very loud without much distortion. High quality build with good design. Records well. Sounds better than many mini systems out there! Excellent subwoofers (settings from 1-6). Excellent full function remote that works from long distances (I use it from 30 ft. away). Includes timer, accurate clock, sleep functions. Remote can be carried along with boombox in a nylon/velvro case attached to the shoulder strap. For someone on a tight budget this could easily be their home stereo with the advantage of portability for those outdoor picnics/camping/sports etc...

10 D batteries; 3 AA to hold preset stations in memory when unplugged from current. Weight!!! Can sound a little "harsh" when played loud with vocals.

As mentioned, it is simply the best portable I've heard. Simply outsounds and outclasses its peers. It's good to see JVC take boom technology to a new listenable high. Finally one that actually sounds real good. It's built extremely rugged and durable. Within the confines and restraints of boomboxes I don't see how it could get much better for it's intended purposes. If you're in the market for a portable pay the extra money for this one. Plenty of features and most important - quality sound. I agree with E-Towns review of this boom. Female voices can be strained when played loud with a lot of instrumentation for the mid/treble to handle. I suppose that might be the one thing for future improvement- a larger mid/treble speaker to better handle the voice/instruments at louder volumes with less "harshness". All in all an excellent step up. Most people will not be disappointed.
