(NS-7MD) It looks very nice, it has a lots of functions and it doesn't take up a lot of space. The sound on the other hand has way too much bass (which goes any direction) and very little midtone or treble. The higher tones are very directional so you have to be right in front of the machine to get a neutral reproduction. And I'm not very critical here : when you're anywhere else, the deep bass is the only thing you get (awful for casual listening). Of course it helps playing with the tone setting a bit, but that will distort the sound. I'm planning on setting the satellite speakers roomwidth apart (hope it helps), I'll post the results sometime next month. As an alarm clock, the NS-7 isn't very impressive either. It's very basic.

I tend to disagree with everyone, or so my wife tells me. I bought the system the other day and I wouldn't be able to say enough about it. As for the person who complains about the bass...decrease the bass and woofer levels.
The system delivers a wonderful mix of looks, style, function and sound. As for looks, it's the best looking thing I've seen in the way of Bookshelf systems. Style is definitely Y2K. Function: Does everything I need it to do (a cassette would be nice, but with CD's, who really cares?) Sound is what this system delivers. Very customizable, very crisp, very clear and if you want, very thumpy. I give it 2 Tweeters Up! Way Up!

The system is definitely adequate for the money. It takes experimentation to find a good speaker setup, and the sattelite speakers must be spaced wide apart. reciever hums and .9% THD which isn't so great. no comaparison to bose lifestyle system but 25% of the cost and way better than the similair JVC systems

Strength:

looks, sound, and price

Weakness:

no tape

I very recently bought a ns-7 from buy.com I had listened to all the popular brands at the store including jvc. The pioneer was clearly better. Locally I could not beat $599.00 however, buy.com charged $499.00/no tax/ and shipped free. The ns-7 looks great and sounds better. I felt it was the only system under $1000 or $2000 for that matter that delivered satisfactory mid range. All the systems seem ok with highs and most with subs handle the lows ok but the others dont do mid range very well! Buy it.

Just bought the NS-7MD (CD receiver with Mini Disk) and must say I love it! Beautiful design and great sound (certainly the best system I've owned). Only thing that seems to be lacking for my needs is the performance when hooking the system up to my TV... Think I might get the SP-L5 amp to add to my set up!

I am very impressed with the NS-7. It's pretty minimalistic, so anyone after loads of flashing líghts is going to be disappointed. But it has enough functions & most importantly, it sounds great. The thumping subwoofer delivers great base, and the satellite speakers crisp mid & high tone ( these need to be spaced wide apart for best results )You won't get a better sounding system for this money, or double the price for that matter. If youre after an excellent system, not the usual rubbish, go for this!
