This is exactly what I was looking for. I patiently waited for it to go on sale and purchased it, for $309.00. I was looking to buy the Bose Wave Radio w/CD, but after reading the horrendous reviews, written by my peers, I looked elsewhere and turned to the JVC FS-7000. The sound is fantastic for the size and price. Good solid bass response, clean highs, and it looks nice on a wooden night table. The 6000 comes in another color scheme. The only feature that I don't like is that the analog/digital clock layering system, always defaults to both, each time the power comes on, even though I only want it to be set to a digital clock display. The screen looks too busy, and it doesn't hold the setting of your choice. The alarm ramps up in volume, also (nice feature).

Strength:

Size without any impact on sound quality. Those speakers
are amayzing, i never thought a 3" could do this...

Weakness:

No snooze on the remote. Thats it!

Ok, first off, i did not have any problems with a noisy
drive mechanism. Get a 2000 year build.

Also, the volume control is perfect with no problems.

Second, sound is unbeleivable. I have as a home system:
RX-460 from Yamaha, DVD-S795 from Yamaha and Paradigm
Studio 60's. Comparing this to the FS-7000 has for first
impression that how could such small speakers play so well?
Voices are the best, jazz is great with good bass down to
50Hz. No pipe organ bud an electric bass plays well.
Uppers need i little definition.

The overall quality is great and i had no problems.
its also less expensive that the competition.

Strength:

Clear, detailed, sound. Excellent styling and high quality feel.

Weakness:

Lack of bass...

Nice, clean, detailed sound in a very attractive package. The real cherry speakers are a nice touch. great system for an office, or al iving room where you just need quiet background music. Not great bass, but it is a minisystem, so I guess I shouldn't expect great bass. I own both a Bose Wave radio (bedroom) and a Cambridge Soundworks Model 88(kitchen), and I still contend that the Model 88 will run all up and down either of these systems. But...overall I'd reccomend the JVC FS7000 to anyone as a secondary system (office, living room, etc.), without a second thought. Attractively priced, great looking with clean sound.

I got an FS-2000 (very very similar from specs and personal observation -- different display) for dirt cheap from spidergear.com. It's a refurb, but I cannot see a flaw on the thing and it works perfectly (I'm told by spidergear that many refurbs actually have nothing wrong with them -- they've just been returned by folks who changed their minds; either that or they fixed it well). Anyway, this is a sweet unit. The amp and speakers are GREAT for this sized unit. Ergonomics are pretty good, though I'd prefer if more functions did not require using the remote (esp'y bass + treble). The tuner section is not so hot -- sound is full, but noisy, and reception is a little sketch; may just need a better antenna. Don't care too much for radio anyway. The other thing that is not-so-hot is the DAC. Didn't notice 'till recently. I bought an HHB pro CD-R deck (the 850 -- this a an INCREDIBLY nice piece! 5 strong stars for that, and for < $1000), and since my regular cd player (P.O.S. Yamaha) does not have digital out, I've been using the JVC as digital source (until I buy another deck-player). Well, it took me by surprise that recordings played back on the HHB sounded better (played through the JVC amp + speakers) than the originals played on the JVC (since I'm using digital out, I'm bypassing the DAC on the JVC when recording). The difference is pretty huge -- night and day. Not the end of the world though; what would one expect on a mini-system? And still, the thing amazes through it's ability to fill a room w/ rich sound (haven't tried w/ a subwoofer, but that would be cool I'm sure). Plus it's tiny, handsome, and the alarm is great to have. Buy one you won't be disappointed.

Strength:

Great sound. Great looks. Subwoofer out

Weakness:

Damn preferences aren't remembered but I guess I can live with that.

This is a great system. I guess what I bought was last year's model which explains the price. I had a slight problem with the speaker cabinet cracks (straight from the box) in the back near the port but I returned it and made them find me ones that were perfect. Like everyone else, it would have been nice for the system to remember your settings and leaving out a mute button doesn't make sense.
I never expected the sound to be as good as this. I even picked up a Paradigm PDR 12 sub (I know...overkill...but eventually it will go to my HT) and hooked it up. Wow! You can't go back once you've heard this with a sub.
Great system overall, make sure you check your speakers for cracks and enjoy!

I have the older FS-2000, which is the same thing but without the two layer clock. I think that its a fantastic product, and perfect for bedrooms and offices. The sound quality is great for such a small system. I actually prefer it to what one gets from most mid-fi systems (such as the Kenwood KR-A5050, matching CD changer, and Polk Monitor 6 speakers that I have in my office here).
I have two FS-2000s, one in the bedroom and one in my home office. I bought the 2nd at http://www.onsale.com for about $150. In both cases I have the speakers mounted with small OmniMounts (http://www.omnimount.com). The system works very well when you want something small and unobtrusive. In the bedroom we use it as an alarm clock in the morning and for listening to CDs on at night.

The only complaint that I've ever had about the unit is that when the sleep timer ends it doesn't fade out of the music (mostly disappointing because it does fade in music when the alarm comes on in the morning).

I just purchased on of these and I must say, quite a quality product. Excellent sound quality for such a small system, smart elegant styling (also very important). This system is a must buy for anyone looking for a small package that delivers all the goods

I am very impressed with this system. It is small and can really put out great clear sound. In regards to the dimensions of the product, it is a little deeper than the pictures suggest. I did a lot of research on systems and decided on this system due to the reviews on this page. I am happy with the system as a whole. I think the reviews are a little high however. Perhaps 4 to 4.5 stars is a fair judgment. I don't think it is perfect to the point of 5 stars, though. It is a great system, however, but it is not flawless. One problem is that there are some features that can only be controlled through the remote control. This is not bad, it can just pose problems if something happens to the remote. Another problem is that you can only hook up the one set of speakers to the system (which are indeed excellent as the others have noted). I was kind of hoping that I would be able to set up another set of speakers in the future. Perhaps this can still be done by sending two wires to the same input in the back of the system. I will consult people before I do this, however. The bass and treble control is a little limiting but pleasently simple. It doens't give you as much control as a pure equalizer, but then again, equalizers are sometimes a little difficult to figure out and find just the right balance.

The alarm clock feature is wonderful as well as the sleep timer. The dual display setup is nice as well.

Would I recommend this system? Definitely! It is great. The only reason I don't give it the coveted five stars is because it is not perfect. I think five stars should be reserved for the perfect system. If you are looking for something small for an office, a dorm room, or just a small space, this is really quite ideal. It is not large at all and produces beautiful sound.

GIVE IT A LISTEN!

I bought an FS-7000 for my wife for use as an alarm clock. They styling isattractive, and the size is very manageable. The speakers are made from
real SOLID wood. I like to give visitors a demonstration of our FS-7000 and
and see their surprise that all that sound is coming from those tiny squares.
Many friends suspect we have a sub hidden under the bed (we don't). The digital/analog clock is gimmicky and we have never found a use for it. I
wish there was a way to specify what track number would play when used in
alarm mode (it just defaults to track 1). We love this system, but it was
quite a bit more money that we had hoped to pay.

FS-7000 has superior sound compared to other brands in the sameprice range (ie. Aiwa, Sony, Pionner). The bass is fantastic.
The simple retro styling is beautiful. Its ultra compact size makes
it possible to fit the system anywhere. The best part of the
FS-7000 are the speakers. They are similar to the one on the FS-5000
except they are made of cherrywood and have ceramic Hyper Olefin cones.
I find it strange that there is no MUTE function. Furthermore, some
functions are not available the remote control and others are not
found on the main unit. I've owned this system for 2 weeks now,
and I am very happy with my purchase...

Price: Payed 420 $CAN (about 280 $US) + taxes
