Strength:

TIVO and dual tuners. Lots of recording time. Ability to record two programs at the same time and watch a previously recorded on. The season pass options are great.

Weakness:

Weak interface. RCA has an input to let you choose ifferent channels based on viewer. This was very easy for the kids to operate. SAT T60 has some filters but much more difficult for a kid to use. Modem does not always connect for no apparent reason.

Great product. I read all the reviews before buying it and did not think that it and Tivo could really live up to the expectations but it definately did.

Strength:

2 tuners finally activated, will change your viewing habits for the better

Weakness:

Can't send the data through a PC network (of course that would open up a Pandora's box of copyright issues)

This changed the way that my wife and I watch TV. The fact that she can use it without a manual is a testament to their GUI research. There is really no reason to not have one of these. Currently, I am using both the 2nd AV out and the RF out to send the signals throughout the entire house, so you really only need one. I have used the DISH Player at my parent's house. The user interface is much less sophisticated. Unless you really want their International programming, go with a DirecTIVO

Strength:

dual tuners makes recording easy and non-conflicting.

Weakness:

Would love to have a set that can do HD and TiVo. Why can I not have my cake and eat it too?

Wow, far better than a TiVo connected to a DirecTV receiver. Fast, works well.

Strength:

Doesn''t work long enough to have any.

Weakness:

Released before it was ready. Defective hard drives make it a lock to break down on you.

This thing belongs in the junk heap. When it works, it''s great. Got my first unit and had to return it in 2 weeks. Second unit had to be returned in 2 months. Sony customer service is rude and unaccomodating, expect to have to pay to ship the unit to Boston, and be without te receiever for 4-6 weeks. I''ll never buy Sony again...

Can''t use PIP on TV with this TIVO box

This is an updated review to my previous posting. I still stand by the things I said about this product and I am submitting this to address one issue. I am currently using this product with a dual tuner pip TV. Even though my TIVO box is dual tuner I am unable to use PIP. The only way I could utilize the PIP is use another cable box to recieve a separate signal from my TIVO box. For someone not using PIP this wouldn''t matter but for someone who enjoys PIP on a big screen like me it is a weakness. This is still a great product though and if you don''t mind paying an extra fee to use another box than it doesn''t really matter all that much.

Strength:

Dolby Digital, controls Sony VCR's automaticallyand simply to pass movies from receiver to VHS, ease of use!!!

Weakness:

The only waekness I see which is minimal is the fact that when you pass a movie to VHSit is the only thing you can do, you can't watch live TV or anything else.

Love it!!!! Revolutionary change of your TV watching experience!!!!!! Besides CNN Headline news, I can't recall any live/real time TV I've had to "flip" through(the old days) since I can go ahead and watch what I WANT from my Now Playing List since I bought it!!!!! Season Pass RULES!!!!! It absolutely ROCKS!!! My wife loves it because she always has something for the little ones to watch when they get bored and or wild!!! I'm not kidding about the price I payed.... We never miss the shows we really want now....so hassle free!!! Forget programing VCR's, this is the 21'st century happening before your eyes. You must get into this!!!

Strength:

Tivo Service is incredible. What a great idea.

Weakness:

Remote functions are limited as to controling other components.

No real big complaints. I did want to know if anyone else is experiencing the same problem I am.
There are two faint lines that creep up the picture over and over again.
Please e-mail me if you have a fix for this.
Other that this, this Tivo product revolutionizes TV watching.

Strength:

Amazing! I had a regular TiVo connected to a Sony HIDef DBS receiver and the picture was average. seems the TiVO degrades the digital picture. I decided to bite the bullet and pay for a second TiVO. Well worth it, better picture, better integration, easier to use. This is the best purchase I have made for my TV.

Weakness:

having to pay for TiVo service a 2nd time

If you are considering DBS, buy this product. Well worth the money at twice the price. I have also used an RCA receiver with a pretty good picture, this blows each of them away)

Strength:

This rocks! Excellent product. Dolby Digital 5.1 Optical. Excellent Audio / Video Quality. Easy to use software - well integrated between DirectTv and Tivo. Upgraded software v 2.5 - fabulous - supports dual tuner, also Commercial skip feature.

Weakness:

Initial unit had Dolby Digital Optical output problem requiring exchange - problem is reported by other users to cause compatibility problems w/ input to Yamaha receivers

Kicks Ass!

If you are a DirectTv user, get this now. I have seen it w/ service rebates at $150. This is a steal. I think I got an excellent product at the price I paid, which was way before the current promotions, this is a must have now.

Latest upgrade in software added some major features - see above.

My VCR is gathering dust now. Except for occaisional archiving, I don't think I'll be using that again.

I had to exchange initial unit, but CC took care of that w/ no hassles and I don't hold it against the overall experience I have had with this product, although I report for completeness.

Enjoy, its a killer.

Strength:

Dual-tuners, ease-of-use, digital audio out/record, slick integrtion with DirecTV.

Weakness:

Hard drive noise. Occasional glitches. Didn't come with current software.

This toy is the greatest! I can watch a previously recorded show and record two others at the same time -- and it's easy. The "smart" high-speed search modes are novel and work great. If you have DirecTV, RUN to the store and buy one of these!

OK, the downside. First, my access card didn't work, and I had to wait two days to get a replacement. I'm told this is common. Second, and I was really pissed about this, the manuals and software are about 6 months out of date. The dual-tuners feature isn't in the manual or the software; it will download within the first few days.

My ongoing complaint is having to pay $10 ransom each month, and the hard drive chatter. The unit makes the same noises your computer does -- which is what you'd expect. But when I'm trying to listen to music, it's annoying.
