Strength:

Pre-programmed sound modules. It's sheek appearance. Versitility.

Weakness:

Remote control buttons are too small. Inability to program DSL remote control. Screen on receiver is too small. Unable to control trebble, bass, etc.. independently. Bass output.

This product is well worth the money. It strictly adheres the definition to the "home entertainment" system. The sound output is preprogrammed by engineers, thus restricting it's true capabilities and exploration. Overall, the sound quality is excellent!

Strength:

Sleek design, very pretty, takes up very less space, and a breeze to setup.

Weakness:

Not strong enough. The 5 disk CD/DVD changer is SLOOOOW! Very limited control.

I brought this system home, hoping to crack some glass, but I cranked it, and was able to stay in the room and watch an entire movie. It doesn't have a bass/treble control. One volume control for all speakers.

Strength:

Very easy to set up... SACD stereo/ multichannel support. Progressive scan output.

Weakness:

It really would of been nice if sony threw in an active sub, instead of a passive one. The bass level, even at its highest setting, isn't that high at all. Although, it does the job. You may also consider getting an active subwoofer. and use it with the packaged passive sub.

The DAV990 features 5x 100 watt 4way speakers and comes with a passive 100 watt 8" subwoofer. It also comes in with 2 pairs of stands for the front and rear speakers. It plays SACD (stereo and multi), DVD, MP3, CD, and AM/ FM. Supports: DTS, DD5.1, and Dolby Prologic II. It leaves me wanting when playing a CD in stereo. But it does the job for SACD multichannel playback, DVD movies, and for GAMES running in PLII. I mean, for a thousand usd, you're getting a pscanning dvd player that can play SACDs, 5 pcs of speakers. 4 stands, and a subwoofer. You can't beat that, imo. Even Energy Take 5.2's speakers won't sound that much better than these speakers. and they cost atleast 650 with the subwoofer.
