A nice DVD player when it works. As one other reviewer mentioned, on mine, the LED panel dispplay and all audio functions ceased working in the middle of a DVD and remained INOP. All those having used it for less than 3 months might be in for a rude surprise.

Strength:

Cheap Remote is nice.

Weakness:

Skips and freezes at times.

Actually it is the SD1750 (possibly a Cdn model number?) I bought the cheapest there was at the time because I spent most of my money on the TV set. Basically you get what you pay for. Most of the time I can go through a movie with no problems. Sometimes, however, the DVD will ''''skip'''' or ''''freeze''''. I will be making another purchase this summer - and will be getting a progressive scan. No use having a great TV without a good start to the picture! This one will go to the kids.

Strength:

Excellent picture

Weakness:

Possible quality problems

I purchased this unit as a second one for another television. My other DVD player is a Toshiba SD 2109. The SD1700 worked fine for about 3 DVDs until suddenly the sound quit entirely. I have the sound hooked directly to the television set. I tried switching patch cords, but the sound still did not work. I brought the unit back to Best Buy and replaced it with a Toshiba SD2800 (same price). So far the sound and picture work fine with this model

Strength:

Ease of use and set up. Price. Solid product.

Weakness:

DVD movies and CD''s only (but that''s all I was looking for anyway!)

This is the player to get if all you are looking to do is play movies. The wiz has it on sale for $119. My other unit is the 1200 and I have never had a problem. I expect the same from this one. Came home, set up took a minute, popped in The Matrix and was a happy camper.

Strength:

Price, zoom and speed features

Weakness:

None at this price

Great player for the price. I didn't want to spend another $20 to play cd-rs as I already have 2 players that will do that. Great picture and sound (better than the Creative Labs Encore in my Pc. Zoom is great. Speeds of 1/8 to 20 is great. I'm glad I didn't have to spend extra for an optical cable. I don't have a $ X0000 amplifier that you might be able to hear the difference with. The remote and the player are kind of light but both PERFORM great. A good starter unit.

Strength:

Overall great picture hues, color and steadiness. Very quiet door mechanism and spin-up. Audio enhancement features a BIG plus. Remote has no backlighting, but this is easily overlooked when considering the overall package. I was sceptacle about buying the played at Walmart for such a low price, but I have had for 2 months now, and eberything is working flawlessly. The 4X time is a good feature also, zoom resolution is very clean.

Weakness:

No major weaknesses. Backlight on remote would be nice.

Overall, great player for the $$$

Strength:

Good Price, Good Picture, Easy to use

Weakness:

No Optical Out, Remote a little weak.

Just bought this a couple of days ago. Setup took me five minutes, I don't have a high end T.V. (No Audio Outs) so I had to go through my hifi VCR with the audio/video cable that came with it. Even through my vcr and not directly into the T.V. the picture is very crisp and clear, the sound is great ( I don't have dolby digital 5.1, but do have surround sound) and full. I would recommend this unit
to anyone looking to buy their first DVD player. Very Happy considering the cheap price paid. Hopefully it lasts!

Strength:

excellent overall picture. Good menus. Sound in D.D. and DTS had good imaging and nuances

Weakness:

Sound quality's clarity and power not as good as many other units.

I would have liked to test it on my own system; it was tested on my brothers system which consists of NHT Super Twos, Super Ones and a 35 inch Sony with S-Vhs only. Tried DTS disc of Sav.Pvt.Ryan and D.D. disc of Toy Story 2. Downconversion looked fine. Audio's strengths and weaknesses mentioned above. Has a choice of 5 different types of video performance(ex 0 and 7IRE, Movie 1 and 2, and animation). 2 channel surround untested. Excellent contrast and color with 3-D look in picture. Good entry level player but if audio is important, this unit should be tried against other brands.

Strength:

EASY set up, even for a novice.

Weakness:

Only lasted about a month... Had to return product!

Really nice machine... Easy to work, good layout of buttons on remote, nice picture and sound on DVD movies.

EXCEPT... It stopped working properly after about the 10th movie. On perfectly new "clean" DVDs, it would stop, shutter, and put itself into slow-motion. This happened on a couple of DVDs so the machine was returned to Target (who were very gracious about the return I might add). Unfortunately, after waiting a week, they got no more 1700s in stock so I ended up with a refund (since they shelves had been ravaged at Christmas and were bare).

So, while I think the machine was a winner, I probably had a semi-lemon. I would buy from Toshiba again in a heart-beat (I own 2 of their TVs so I'm a loyal customer). Too bad it didn't work out. :-(

Strength:

Cheap.
Good picture quality.
Produces strong sound given the price.
Black Level & Dynamic Range Adjustments.

Weakness:

No Optical Audio Out.
No backlit remote.
Has problems with some dual-layered discs and slightly scratched discs.

This is my first stand alone player. I have DVD on my PC and laptop and actually won this player in a local contest. I was shoping for one but not actively. I knew what features I was looking for and this one has most of them.

I would have preferred an optical audio out jack versus the component video jacks. It is quiet and has an excellent picture even with RCA cables. The dynamic range control is a +, as well as the onscreen setup/adjustment.

I saw the price for it about $110 and would agree that is a fair price for what it does.
