Sound Clarity. Video Quality. Price

Weakness:

Remote

I used to have the Toshiba 2109. When I got an offer to pay $293 delivered(!) from accompany.com for the 6109, I jumped at the chance. My old JVC Prologic receiver is now in my attic. The 6109 has crystal clear video signal (through the s-video) and great audio output. For my smallish room, the 50W power is plenty. The fact that is a combined player also gives it a high WAF (wife acceptance factor).

One dig against it is the remote. I usually have little problem operating complex remotes in the dark through touch. However, there are few key "landmarks" on this remote. My plan is to get a learning remote soon to replace it.

Overall, I have been very pleased with this unit and recommend it highly.

Strength:

Packed full of features, compact and efficient

Weakness:

Need magnifying glass for remote, should have been included.

Great unit. Space saving one unit for picture and sound. 50 Watts of power was a concern but it's more than enough for my living room. We keep the volume around 50 and it shakes the walls. Now I need to update the TV, so I can see what the componet outputs will do. I'm looking at a Toshiba 27V71.

remote is too busy

Let me tell you something. If you're in the market for a dvd player and Dolby Digital 5.1 reciever and you DON'T buy this product. I will come to your house and hit you in the head with a baseball bat. This unit is a GODSEND!! Not only does it have a Dolby Digital 5.1 decoder, but also a DTS decoder as well. And don't let the modest 50 watts per channel fool you, this thing sounds great, not to mention the picture quality is un-matched by moderately priced dvd players. I played The Matrix the other day and HOLY MACAREL did it look and sound great. OH YEA! I almost forgot, it also has a set of component video outputs on it. I hooked this baby up to my new Hitachi 60 inch big screen and my newly purchased Klipsch Quintet surround sound speaker system, and let me tell you, I'll never go to the movie theater again. I now own one!!! Another usefull bit of info: Don't pay $799.00 for it, you can find it all over the place for between $300 and $400. I paid $325.00 on ebay for mine. It was new in the box

Remote

I fixed the remote issue addressed by others by using a One for All Cinema 7 (7800) universal remote for $24. It uses both the Onkyo RCVR code and the Toshiba DVD code. After moving the DVD functions to the RCVR section I now have a fully functional remote that I can actually use in the dark.

Otherwise I can only say that I couldn't be happier. I also got this through the accompany deal. The 50W amps are more than enough for my Phase Tech speakers for crisp, loud sound and the sub circuitry controls my sub perfectly. It also has a well done speaker setup program built in using pink-noise for each channel and a +/- 12db adjustment for each speaker. It also has component video and optical if you have that available on your other equipment.

Very feature rich product and perfect for those of us who don't require seperate components. Can't be beat for a DTS/5.1 system. Overall a 5 for me with the Cinema 7 addition but I have to go 4 due to the included remote.

Strength:

price, good looking design & easy to connect

Weakness:

only 50 watts per channel, remote buttons too small

This a great little dvdplayer/receiver..unlike the SONY DE and DB series receivers this unit sounds great in stereo mode..THe dolby digital sounds great too. Even though the 50 watts is adequate I just wish they had thrown in a little more. I had this hooked up to a 35inch Toshiba cinema series, and a toshiba vcr in under 15 minutes..It was that easy!!..I give it 4 stars only because of the remote. I got this at vanns.com for $440 shipped

This is a follow up to the review I wrote in May.

My biggest complaint is lack of power. At 50W per channel its just not enough to drive a 5 speaker system in a mid to large room if you are interested in really jamming. Yes the price is awesome for all you get the real downer is the power.

Now for the bad news my unit fried in November. I was already experiencing heating issues before and finally the unit died during a party after just a couple of hours. It seems an IC chip fried and it has taken Toshiba 4 weeks so far to ship the replacement part.

: Full Home Theatre Integration, Composite Video, Zoom

The Toshiba 6109c Integrated DVD-Receiver is full-featured DVD player with an integrated multi-channel Dolby® Digital and DTS® compatible receiver, one of the first of its kind. It turns into an instant home theater in just minutes, but unfortunately the directions have very little detail and more complicated setups can be difficult. (By complicated setups I mean connecting your stereo system, TV, VCR, computer, and speakers using both antenna, cable, component video, and TV:Video-Out with PIP.) Unfortunately, because of the lack of any phone number in the manuals, I still havent been able to set up all the features I want to use. (My TV is Toshiba too, and once I have time to track down the numbers and call a tech support rep, I will be much happier.)

The 5 channels of 50 watt power deliver more than enough power for even the most demanding speaker systems. Built-in faetures include: Dolby Digital®, DTS®, ProLogic® and PCM® Decoding with Input Selection of DVD/VCR1/VCR2/Tape/TV Sound/Tuner 30 AM/FM Preset Selections. It has 3 DSP Modes: Party/Hall/Expanded and Subwoofer and Center Channel Line Level Output. Monitor Outputs include S-Video, Composite Video and RCA. The Unified Remote is nothing special and has so many buttons it is rather confusing. The only thing "easy" about it is to hit the wrong button.

The great features of this DVD player are the composite video out, the 4X zoom, multi-angle select, and subtitle/language selects. DVDs are displayed beautifully on almost any TV set and if you know what you are doing, full home theatre integration is truly possible with this Toshiba 6109 DVD player!
Get it at YourInsider.com for $389.95! Good Luck!

DTS, combo DVD and Reciever, plenty of inputs and outputs.

Weakness:

Remote is horrible.

Great system for the $295 I got it for. The features are great and once I programmed my universal remote this was a fantastic purchase. I had been running DVDs off my Computer to my old dolby surround stereo and they sound difference if awesome. I suggest getting a subwoofer for the system because right now I do not have one and the bass just is not strong enough. I have gotten rid of my old stereo and cd player, now if i could only replace my VCR! Great system for the budget Home theater.

remote is not good; Toshiba after-sales support is not simply 'there' for you when you need them...

The unit is okay except that I had problems with the auto-decode of DTS titles. I have to buy a RAITE DVD and use the DTS out feature to pass signal back to the Toshiba 6109c unit. Did not get any replies from Toshiba support email address!!???!!***
