Strength:

Great Sound, Easy Setup, excellent Picture

Weakness:

The remote should have an eject button, and a Jog Shuttle

For my 1st DVD player The Toshiba 3109 has filled my basic
needs. The playback and the sound is excellent. All I need is a new Home theater sound system to bring out the full potential of this player.

All it needs is a better remote.

The 3109 is a great machine. I really enjoy the dual disk capability. However there is one thing that gets annoying sometimes. When there is a disc in one tray and I power it on to put in another disc I'm about to watch, the machine automatically switches over to the disc inside. So after putting the new disc in, I always have to press the disc select button again and wait for the other disc to unload and the other to load before I can begin viewing. The sub level output is kinda low too. But other than those two things, the picture is great and the machine has quite a few features such as the zoom and panning.

Strength:

Features

The unit's performed great. I purchased it in May. I haven't had too much of a problem with the downconversion. Just got used to a sharper picture. DVD loading time could be a bit faster. Anyways, the only glitch I have ever run into with this player was with Enemy of the State. There may have been one or two other glitches, but my take is that other players have more problems. Anyways, I think the player's a good buy due to all the extras.

Strength:

dual tray, great video quality, plays HDCDs

Weakness:

slight pauses during layer switching, does not play CDR or CDRW

This player presents a great value for the money. The visual quality is great, as is the audio quality, and it has a variety of outputs.

Strength:

Dual tray, zoom feature.

Weakness:

Hidden features

There are ways to get rid of the "zoom" that shows up on the screen, but you won't find out how in the manual. I hate hidden feature codes. However, aside from that, this player is one of the best I have ever seen. I don't know that it is much better than the 2109 in quality, but it does have more features. Toshiba has me hooked

Strength:

Dual Trays and sound

Weakness:

Big remote control

Excellent product in the $300 price range. My only complaint is with the huge remote control (looks like something Fisher Price makes) and the screen saver.
Overall, a great value for your money and an excellent player. This is the one too have in the initial days of the DVD Era while we wait for the recordable players and the ones that will hopefully have tuner control.
