Strength:

Daul disc tray, Audio CD playback, Its simplicity.

Weakness:

Remote is a bit clumsy.

I have only had this player for a few weeks but I believe its the best one out there for the price (I Bought it from Buy.com for $219.00 was originally $249.00 and now is selling for $319.00 I used a $30 off coupon and they were not charging for shipping). Its very easy to setup and use and the video quality is outstanding, dont let the simplicity of the player fool you its is packed with great features. Also the audio CD sound reproduction is fantastic and using the coaxial output makes it even better. The remote is a bit on the annoying side because of poor placement but you get used to it and it shouldn't deter you from buying this great product. I have to give it 5 stars all around.

Weakness:

remote (see below)

First, I think this is a great machine. I'm very glad I got it.

Second, I haven't had any problems that I can blame on the machine.

That said, this is a great value machine. Perfect picture, good zoom and forward reverse functions. The remote does need some work. It is difficult to find exactly what you are looking for with the light on, much less in the dark.

After reading these reviews, I thought, ' what a bunch of weenies that complain about backlight on the remote' Guess what? You watch movies in the dark! Combined with the poor layout of the remote - that makes it hard to use.

The only problem I have had was a terrible burst of artifacts that stopped the player. Then I discovered that they were caused by a big scratch on the dvd (rental) combined with a smudge where someone decided to buff it out, or something. (if you want to see artifacts, put fingerprints on your disks)

Great buy with 800.com matching buy.com's 249.00 offer.

Strength:

Dual disc support. Built in DTS. Zoom feature. Digital Coax, optical, component outputs.

Weakness:

No jog shuttle on the remote or the unit.

I use it mostly for movies, the picture quality is outstanding. Since I don't have my home theater completely setup (no reciever yet) the simulated surround is a nice feature. I like the ability to be able to watch one disc while changing/inserting another. The remote could be a little less bulky, and I don't care for the flip down panel for direct chapter selection. But these are minor complaints. I would definitely buy this product again!

Strength:

Picture. Sound. Silent operation. Build quality. Ease of use.

Weakness:

None so far.

I have been extremely impressed with this player. Have watched The Green Mile, Top Gun, The Matrix, Saving Private Ryan, and The Insider (rented with a few scratches) and have experienced absolutely no problems. No lip synch, no layer change delays, no sound problems. Absolutely none.

I would highly recommend this player to anyone.

Strength:

Fantastic picture quality; great sound; problem free player.

Weakness:

Slightly clumsy remote design; not terribly pretty to look at.

My first player was a the early $500 Toshiba SD-2108. I was introduced to DVD with a virtually flawless product. That machine played hundreds of movies (along with purchases, I rented DVDs about once a week) and never once had a problem. And did I mention the picture quality was gorgeous?

I just figured it was the DVD format at all players were the same. Wrong! I decided to sell my player and "upgrade" to a new-fangled DVD/MP3/VCD machine. Boy was that a mistake! The Raite 715 had problems playing every movie I tried to watch. Sound would go out of sync with the picture when I paused a disc; the picture would hiccup now and then and even stick and stop at times... and the picture quality... huge blocky digital artifacts flashing and floating all over the screen (especially in solid tones and gradients). It was a painful machine to watch. Needless to say, it had to go.

After that I looked at several players: a Sony, Pioneer, JVC... and none of them played as crisply as the Toshiba SD-2200. It has great contrast, virtually zero artifacting and has been, like my first on, absolutely trouble free. Every DVD works and plays beautifully. In addition you can load two discs which is very convenient for movies or series that come in doubles.

The only gripe would be that the remote has a funny sort of enter button that doubles as toggle switch. Sometimes when I select a scene or feature, the pressing of the button causes the toggle to slip and selects the wrong thing. This is minor though and I've become more adept at it with time.

This machine is a winner and a super bargain. The construction feels slightly light yet it's proven to be a quality machine in practice. I highly recommend that you check it out.

Strength:

ease of operation, picture, sound, selection of connection options

Weakness:

haven't found any

this is my first player, so i don't really have anything to compare it to. i basically went by reviews and other people's comments on the unit, which have all been good basically, you're always going to get a complainer about every little thing!!!!!!! so far i have no complaints. it works fine, sounds great, picture is exceptionally clear and sharp, true colors, etc. it certainly sounds better than the cd player i had (jvc). and i got it for $100.00 less than msrp through y3kdigital.com. i highly recommend the player

Strength:

Ease of use; Picture Quality; Bang for your buck.

Weakness:

None for this price range.

Based almost entirely on the reviews found here, I purchased the SD 2200 to replace my two previous Phillips players which both gave me so many problems I had to get my money back. As for this player, the picture quality is great and the sound was as good. The on screen menus and directions are easy to use. I only wish I had a better sound system to truly take advantage of the player. For the price I paid I don't think this player can be beat.

And the remote isn't that bad!
