Strength:
Excellent value. Strong audio and video results
Weakness:
Poor remote, not many connections One home theater magaizne rated this model the best DVD player for the money. I strongly agree. The player has several amsuing features (zoom, black enhancement)while also deivering high quality picture and sound. I have experienced no problems with the DVD's I own (these include Saving Private Ryan). On occasion a rented DVD may hang or skip, but this problme exists with other brands and is relted to poor rental condition. Overall it is an excellent player and if you already have a receiver with a decoder or are looking for an entry level player, I highly recomend the Toshiba SD-2109. |

Strength:
Price, features(like the zoom)
Weakness:
none so far, Ok maybe the remote should have a light feature. Needs to come with the s cable like most others do. So far so good. I did have one occasion where during the movie "wild Wild West" it froze but after hitting stop then start it was ok. Picture and sound quality on by doby pro logic is very good but now I want to buy a doby digital reciever to have the full effects. Similar Products Used: rc5220p |

Strength:
Component video out, quality, price
Weakness:
no optical out like sd-2108, some on screen displays cannot be turned off, remote I picked up this DVD player on a Ubid auction for $209 plus shipping. Overall I am pleased with it, but I was disappointed with the fact that it dosn't have optical outputs. Also, besides the poor remote, I cannot turn off "ZOOM 1,2,3" when I zoom in on a widescreen DVD, I had hoped to do my own version of "Pan and Scan" for the times I don't feel like watching a letterbox movie. I am able to turn off all the other on screen display titles, from the setup menu, but not this one. If it had a better remote, I would give it 5 stars even with the problems I had mentioned. |

Strength:
Clear picture, digital zoom, price
Weakness:
none, yet I am really enjoying my Toshiba DVD player. The clarity is superb, the sound is awesome, and the digital zoom is a neat feature to have! I've played The Matrix, Titanic, Deep Blue Sea, Contact, Tarzan, and many other DVD's and they all looked and sounded great. The remote is easy to operate, and not bulky like some other remotes out there. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
picture, sound, price, performance
Weakness:
Would have been nice to have a universal remote, at least for volume control and TV/LINE switching. I initially had the GE model, and after some extremely dissatisfying dealings with Thompson Consumer Electronics (they are extremely uncooperative, and wanted me to pay to ship and perform the labor on their software error, and insisted this was somehow not a fault with the DVD played, even though it was IN the DVD player), I decided to simply return the model and go with a completely unrelated corporation. I have called their customer service, and they are very helpful and pleasant. I did a lot of research, and read raves about this model in it's price range. Defintely a lot of quality for a very reasonable price. It does tend to skip periodically during action sequences or jarring movement, but it's not too distracting, and it's very brief and infrequent (seen on Armageddon and Sleepy Hollow). Great features, and easy to use. Definitely worth picking up. Similar Products Used: GE51** |

Strength:
Great intro DVD player. Has all the basics you can ask for.
Weakness:
Slow loading is noticeable though that may be common to this grade of DVD. The other problem is the zoom feature. When zooming in, the zoom display stays up there. Overall the perfect intro DVD player. Has all the essential functions plus some nice features with it. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
price, zoom, picture quality
Weakness:
pretty awful remote i'm not much of a videophile, but this dvd player is great. great picture, colors. no problems with lockups, skipping, soundtrack at all. and i've watched over 25 movies with the deck, including the matrix, a known dvd player-killer. i paid $188 for it. plusses - the zoom feature is great. the remote is where they saved a few bucks - it is awful. tiny buttons, no backlight or glowing buttons, either. i have to make a light everytime i want to pause. but all that aside, you can't do better at all for a dvd player unless you part with major cash. Strength:
Good picture quality
Weakness:
Lame-ass Remote I originally purchased a Panasonic A-120U, but returned it for the Toshiba 2109. Overall, this is a very impressive "entry-level" player. I have this player hooked up to my 32" Toshiba TV using the component video outputs. The picture quality is outstanding. Heck, these days even the average Joe can afford to have true Theater picture quality at home. My only complaint is that this unit has RIDICULOUSLY SMALL BUTTONS ON THE REMOTE. What the hell was Toshiba thinking? They probably shaved a few bucks off the price. Hell, why can't they emulate the RCA system remotes? Similar Products Used: Pansonic A-120 |

Strength:
Feature-rich
Weakness:
Tiny remote I tried a Sony and saw lip sync problems. Thanks to these reviews, I found this Toshiba. I got it from sears after showing them that Lowes was selling them for 250--and they matched the price, and have a much better return policy. As far as features, the zoom is indespensable in my opinion. Zooming one level on the _really_ wide screens increases viewing area without sacrificing too much detail. Yes, when you view on widescreen, you can see some breaks in horizontal/diagonal lines, such as power lines, window blinds, etc. It's noticable if you look for them. However, when you zoom, they mostly go away. Fine with me. The remote is OK but tiny. I doubt you'll use it much if you have a HT system though. Another thing I like is that it turns itself off after I think 7 minutes of no-play. Overall, I'd buy this one again even if it exploded... |
