This DVD player has all the features you need. If you want to spend more money spend them on a decent pair of speakers instead. |

I got this about 6 months back from one call for $293 with $20 for FedEx. This is a good DVD player. Picture and sound are great. If stop the DVD player, it allows you to watch the movie from where you left.I can't play CDR music in this player. Can anyone play their CDRs? So I give this player 4.5. |

I recently had an addition added to my house and now have a dedicated HT room. So it was time for my first DVD player and along comes the Toshiba SD-2109 to save the day! What a machine for the price. I got mine thru 800.com for $269.00 which had no tax/free shipping and let me purchase $50.00 worth of dvds from their extensive library! Plus other coupons etc. which come in the box from Toshiba! This is the right player for a newbie just starting out in the Digital World!I also matched my Toshiba with the DENON AVR-3300 Dolby Digital/DTD A/V Receiver which by the way is the best receiver on the market for the $$$ See its reviews! |

This player is great! You can't beet it for the $'s. I use this player for both CD's and DVD's about 50-50. The only complaint I have is that it is loud when listening to CD's. On DVD's it is fine, but for some reason CD's make the machine give off a reasonable amount on noise. |

I must revise my review below with respect the this players ability as a stand alone CD player. What I originally thought was a lively, bright sound has become fatiguing over time. This is the classic hallmark of cheap cd player sound. As well I have noticed audible transport noise from the drive engine during CD playback only, not movie play back. Now that I notice it I cannot not notice it if you know what I mean and can no longer use this unit to listen to CD's. However, since this is not the primary function of the 2109 I will not change my score. Just be forwarned not to use this unit for CD replay. |

I purchased the Toshiba-2109 after reading all the different posts and comments for the JVC, Sony, Pioneer, etc. I've watched 12-15 movies so far I must say I LOVE:) this machine!!! I've been waiting for DVD to enter my price range for some time now and I'm glad I waited. This machine has lots of features, excellent picture and sound quality for a bargain basement price of $268.00 from Sears. Yes! I said Sears. I shopped all the Electronic and Discount stores in the Portland area and the lowest price was $299.00 at the Good Guys. The salesman would not budge on that price by the way!!! Then on a lark I tried Sears and they where cheaper by $32.00, and with 5 free movies and 15 free rentals to boot! Go figure! |

I did a comparison test with the new Pioneer DV-525 and the Toshiba SD2109. I played a lot of movies on both players to see which one had the best picture, sound and features. |

I got the 2109 about two months ago and haven't experienced any real problems. I was afraid it wouldn't play the Alien disc from the legacy set and afew others, but so far it has played everything I have thrown at it with flying colours. I can't beleive the amount of detail you can get (I'm using component output, a.k.a. 'colourstream' to my 32" Tosh Cinema series tele, I bought it for the component inputs), the picture is simply amazing for this low-end player. I got it for $450 Cdn, which at a guess would be about 300 US, but it didn't come with any extra rentals or free discs. I am very content with this player and saw no need to pay more for another player that might have lip-sync, read errors, etc... If you want the best starter DVD player that outshines anything in its class, then this is the one for you. Only gripe, cannot play CD-R's and VCD, although it would be nice to broaden the volume of titles it could play, say import movies, it is only a small scarifice, and since the other formats are inferior to DVD anyways. Great buy! 4.5 stars, remote could do better. Happy viewing! |

Great entry level unit with great sound and great picture!yes the remote buttons could be bigger, but @ $199 avg street price w/shipping and no tax, the extra features of this unit make the buttons look and work just fine :) |

Since I purchased this DVD player about a week ago, I have watched three movies and they were all excellent in picture and audio. I have noticed that the sound when playing a CD is not as bright or spacious as the sound from my nine year old CD player. I bought the DVD from a place called American for $235 after I told them that Lowes, the lumber yard, had it for $249.00. It came with five movies (movies that I have never heard of) at the time I bought it, plus the usual five movies that you receive by mail. I have fifteen days to demo the player. I'm debating about taking it back for a Panasonic A-120, thinking that perhaps the CD sound will be a little better. I'm using the analog outputs for CD. I give the DVD player 5 for movies and 4 for CD sound. Since we are rating it overall, I give it a 4, since it's not perfect. |
