I purchased the 2109 yesterday soley on the strength of magazine reviews. I must say that I am quite impressed. The level of picture detail can be stunning. Colour saturation is impressive. I noticed a trend towards red but this is most likely my aging RCA 31" monitor. Sound quality was excellent and I was suprised at the subtle details exposed. I was also pleasantly suprised at the players ability as a stand alone CD player. Although not of audiophile quality it also wasn't annoying and didn't have any glaring faults. Believe it or not I would say it could be compared to an entry level NAD or Rotel player. As stated in most of the previous reviews, the remote truly sucks. All last night I was having to search around in the dark to try and find the right tiny buttons. Overall I would recommend this unit to a friend and I think it provides excellent value for the money.

After 2 months of shopping I decided to purchase a Toshiba 2109. I guess after such a long search I was lucky to bargain a display unit at BEST BUY for $119, with a manufacturers date of july 1999. WOW LUCKY- I have watched 6 dvd for far and I must say it puts out dynamic sound to my Bose and Audio Research speakers. I couldn't be any happier-The only problem it will Blade DVD I started to see the picture getting darker at certain points and the remote could have been much better-
I am going to play the hell out of it before the 30 days are up- I do think it was the best buy ---- ANyway for $119 how can i really lose.

As an introduction to DVD this was a great purchase at $277 from Good Guys. Still using an old Dolby Prologic receiver but am more than happy with the better picture quality and improved sound compared with VHS. Am using Monster Cable S-Video direct to TV.
Agree with comments about how cheap the remote is. The buttons are small and it feels cheap, but it does work and control everything. Since I have a large collection of remotes I need to get a universal learning remote which will resolve this minor problem.

No problems with the use of it and since it can handle DD and DTS it should last quite a while.

I agree with most people here that this is a very good entry level player. The remote could be better, and it suffices. It has many nice features, including component video out, which I am looking forward to using when I get a TV that has component video in. I've had this player for about six months, and the only times I've had trouble is when the disk is dirty. After cleaning the disk, everything has played fine

Very similar to the SD2107. Does not have a built in digital decoder. My experience with the unit has been good and free of any problems. Reproduces picture and sound flawlessly. Teamed up with my Harman Kardon AVR65 receiver, Cambridge Soundworks "Movie Works" speakers, and Toshiba 50" TV, it creates an excellent system on a budget! The "colorstream" hook-up is compatible with like brand TVs. Good choice for the price!

Great Product. Great performance. No quirks whatsoever. I don't see the point in spending hundreds of dollars more for features you'll never use and with the money you save you can actually rent and buy the movies!

I bought the toshiba sd2109 at Best Buy for $225 ($249 less 10% discount). After reading the reviews here, I figured it sounded pretty good for the price. I've been waiting to purchase in this price range and it has many features. So far have watched a couple movies and everything looks crisp and clear with s-video connection. You can turn off the beeping on the remote in the selections section. Can't wait to buy speakers for my dolby digital receiver (sony str-de935) to check out the sound. In addition to 5 free dvds and blockbuster coupons, in the box there are 15 more free dvd rentals, buy 1 dvd get 1 free, and 2 for 1 coupons at hollywood video (what a deal)!.

The Toshiba SD-2109 is a great bargan. Lot's of great features packed into this unit. Compared other units and this one had the most for the money. This unit supports DTS encoding which I think if the next great leap, Dolby Digital is great, but DTS is one more notch above in discreate sound quality. S-video inputs and composite out are both available. The Zoom feature is great on wide screen formats if you want a full picture.
Now for "Hard to Beleive" fact, cheapest price was found at Lowe's, yes...I said Lowe's, the home improvement store, it was on sale there for $249.00.

Now, if they will add some more items to there electonics section... can you say YAMAHA ?

I bought my 2109 only 2 days ago and have not watched a whole lot of movies on it, but I must say I cannot be happier. I connect the player to my 41" Sony rear-projection TV by a Monster S-video cable and the picture is sharp. I watched A Bug's Life and the colour is awesome! The player is connected to my Dolby Digital amp by a coaxial cable because an optical out is not provided. The movement of the disc tray IS noisy but I am not bothered. Lots of features. Mine's region hacked and I have no problem playing foreign discs. Price is SGD540. Did not have problems with layer change. Great player.
