Strength:

Clear, crisp picture and great sound quality. Am also using as a CD transport until I purchase Rega Planet.

Weakness:

Remote. Enough has been said about this.

Have had in my system for approximately 7 months. Excellent, trouble free performance in video and audio applications. Best product in this price range.

Strength:

Price, Zoom, Sound and Picture Quality

This is my first DVD player and I can't see why anyone would use a VCR. I am only using a Surrond Sound receiver and the sound is still impressive. This is a good bet for for anyone thinking of buying a DVD player for the first time.

Strength:

picture, zoom

Weakness:

motor noise and subsequent high frequency whine

Took the sony back due to lip sync and hidden downconversion,
got a toshiba sd 2109, which at first had a barely audible
but still noticable lower frequency motor whine ... which
over time became an absolutely horrible high frequency screech. Thanks to this web site I got the pioneer 525
and am very pleased.

Strength:

Value, Compatibility, Performance, Glitch-free

Weakness:

No optical out

I have had the 2109 since February and it has yet to disappoint. I had a Pioneer 414, but I experienced the dreaded lip sync and returned it. I used the money to buy the Toshiba and have not looked back since. I have scanned the Home Theater Forum(s) to find anyone having problems with this unit and none have had any that are substantiated. If you are looking for an entry player, this is the one. With component video, you can't go wrong. When the crop of '99 is looked back upon, this will be the stand-out performer who went glitchless! Way to go Toshiba- you nailed it! Any inquiries will be answered. Buy this player and begin having REAL home theater!

Strength:

the better picture than the samsung dvc650 vcd player I used ever, zoom feature.

Weakness:

expensive cost(in the market of china)

the type is sold in shanghai until the last month.its price is RMB 3000(equal to US$ 333),and the prices is equal to my salary a month, but I decided to get it instead of other lower cost DVD players made in china, since I don't trust their built quality.as far ,I'm satisfied with its performace .

Silly little remote

Well I finally saved up the money to buy a DVD player and when I purchased the Toshiba SD2109, was I relieved! This is the second Toshiba product I’ve purchased this year (the first being a 50” projection TV) and all I can say is…Way to go Toshiba!

Compared to the other brands (around the same price), the Toshiba out did them all.

I researched the net for about two weeks, to make sure I was getting a good deal and all of the reviews gave it an average of a 4.5 star rating.

If it weren’t for that silly little remote, I’d give it five stars. Thank God for learning remotes!

Strength:

Quality Value and Features

Weakness:

Remote Control ergonomics

This is a Great DVD Player for the money. There are cheaper DVD players out there, but I don't trust the quality or dependapility of the lower priced ones. Toshiba has obviously put a lot of though into the design of this player, and has added a lot of cool features that you don't find on other players, like ZOOM.

You can usually find this player from between $229 to $299. Once in a blue moon you get a great bargain on it like I did for under $200. However, that was obviously sold at a loss so don't expect to find deals like that every day.

Highly Recomended.
