Strength:

nice looks. Goes with my WEGA TV.

Weakness:

I did notice a lost of image freezes and audio clippings some time back but I put them down to errors on the DVD than on the player. Also, when it's a dual layer DVD, the pause is quite distinct when it switches over.

Two years back when I really sat down and looked at various dvd player options, I thought that the S570D was a very good price-per-functionality deal. However, now I think I have to eat my words ! Everything was fine till one fine day last Saturday the 15th July 2002 when the player just crashed like the Titanic. Gives a constant C13 and No disc message play whatever CD's or DVD's or VCD's. I have not tried the suggestion by sony hacker somewhere in this forum but I might as well since the player is anyways useless.

Strength:

Nice looking case.

Weakness:

Overheats Constant Error Messages Picture and sound gets jumpy during heavy special effects moments Doesn't play DVDs for more than two hours

Not owning many DVDs in the beginning I wasn't aware the flaws this player has. Quite frequently (1 in 5 movies) the player would come up with an error that signified a problem with the DVD. I was told this was due to a dirty disc. (After reading over reviews, I learned this wasn't the case) After my DVD collection was built pretty high, another problem occured...I can't watch movies beyond about 2 hours or the player would no longer read the DVD disc until it had time to cool down. Also, at times where there is a lot of special effects going on, the player picture begins to scramble and the sound begins to skip around. -I would not suggest picking up this player unless its owner is giving it away for a glass of milk.-

Strength:

Plays DVD''s perfectly, gold connectors, good remote and great looks.

Weakness:

Unusually light unit (I thought the box was empty when fedex delivered it). Harsh noise when drawer opens / closes.

I have not had any problems with the Sony S570D, but I read the Sony Hacker review below and wanted to try the calibration procedure in case my unit ever failed. I''m writing this review to to clear up one small detail in his instructions. First of all I''d like to thank him for posting that information, i''m sure lots of people will benefit by getting their unit to function properly without going to Sony for service. His instructions are excellent except that I had trouble getting into the Test Menu because it is not clearly stated that you have to press TITLE, CLEAR, POWER, one at a time, in that sequence. I kept pressing all three buttons at once and got nowhere. I finally found someone who had a service manual in downloadable PDF format, purchased it online and was able to get onto the Test Menu and do the calibration procedure. The manual cost me $11 at http://www.celica-dude.d2g.com/. Their service was excellent and they have hundreds of downloadable manuals for Sony and other brands. As for the the S570D I find it''s a great deal for the money. It plays DVD''s perfectly, looks great and is a relatively quiet machine. I don''t use the built in decoders, instead I use the RCA digital out directly to my Marantz SR5200 6.1 surround sound receiver. Sounds awesome. The Sony really extracts both picture and sound from DVD''s very well. The only thing I don''t like is the harsh noise the drawer makes when it opens and closes. For a mid price Sony product it should be smoother. I have the Sony X777es which has one of the finest drawer mechanisms i''ve ever seen. Smooth as you can get, fast and very quiet. I hope this helps.

Strength:

Not all is grim. The unit is fast and the image is superb. It also has nice features.

Weakness:

To many problems for it''s price. I''ve seen cheaper units perform better.

Hi! It''s good to know I''m not alone. Here''s my story. I got a Sony S560D DVD player as a gift for christmas 2000 and I have been inmediately annoyed by this unit''s poor performance. I remember taking this unit out of the box and experimenting a series of frequent "gliches" while watching my very first DVD ( TITANIC ). These problems ranged from Skips, out of sync audio, pixelation, image freeze and C13:00 codes galore. To top it off, the infamous "NO DISK" error showed up and I had to take it in for repair. It was a good thing my wife put a 3 year gaurantee on this thing. To date, I''ve already taken the unit twice for repairs and still, I''m having the aforementioned problems. I thought buying "Sony" was going to assure a reliable and trouble free experience for us but alas... I guess It would be fare for me to say that it seems quality is not on Sony''s agenda anymore. What to do?

Strength:

Great picture and sound. Once learnt the menu''s are easy to use.

Weakness:

Sometimes there can be a bit of disc spinning noise accessing the extra features, but this usually only happens with rental discs. But this happens rarely.

I have a Sony DVPS735D which I think is the non-US product number (it looks the same). I have been using this player fairly heavily for 1 1/2 to 2 years now and it has been great. Can''t complain about the picture or sound. Both are quite excellent. The sound is sometimes too diverse, but one adjustment and it evens out nicely. The picture is excellent. Sorry to hear about all the problems from the others but I would recommend this (the Austraian/European model) to anyone and have even talked two friends into getting one each as they were in the market to get new players. I have the player connected to a Sony Wega 68cm TV, run through the Sony MHCNX3AV home theatre system. One of the guys I talked into buying this player is a bit of a home theatre nut and was quite impressed with the whole package. So I''m very happy. P.S. Play Pink Floyd''s - Echoes through the player, the surround sound is excellent.

this is actually about the DVP-S560D. I buy alot of sony products because of their reliability, but have been really dissappointed with this DVD player. Here is the story...Just wanted to let you know that I bought a Sony DVP-S560D 2 years ago. I first got the C13 error randomly after about 7 months. Then it went C13 for good at about 8 months. I took it to the Circuit City repair shop, they made some adjustments and when I got it home, it played for 10 minutes and went C13 again. I took it back again and they replaced the loading mechanism and laser. It worked for about another 9 months and just went C13 permantly once again. They quoted about $180 to fix it. I''m just going to take the money get a different brand with progressive this time. Hope this is some insight into this.

Very nice looking. Plays great when it works.

Weakness:

Where do I start?????

I have had problems all along with some rented DVDs. Brand new DVDs have played fine. I am surprised at SONY''s lack of response regarding this issue. Anyway, this gives me an excuse to put mine up on Ebay, get $200+ for it, and go out and get a progressive scan model... Good luck to you all!
