Strength:

Heavy enough to use as a paper weight even in very strong winds. Crisp clear picture for the 1st year of operation.

Weakness:

After 1-year doesn''t play DVD''s.... power light too small to use as a nightlight ... Sony customer support...

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS UNIT OR ANY UNIT BUILT USING THE SAME SONY TECHNOLOGY, unless you consider consumer electronics temporay throw away products. In which case its an ok buy, easy to install, quality picture, all the features an average user would want. 1. Another unit in the "No Disc" club. 2. Worked great for the first 16 months then without warning "NO DISC". 3. Tried SonyHackers solution without success though we are going to try it again. Not too sure about the SoCal short and solder approach....

I tried SonyHackers suggestion, but all I got were errors, no matter what DVD I tried. Am I doing something wrong or does this meant that the problem can only be fixed by replacing hardware?

Thank you Sonyhacker. I had to do it twice. But I had nothing to lose I was fixing to pitch it. Especially after I had WORDS with a Sony manager. They tried to tell me they didn''t know of any problem. Yeh Right! Well I tried your remedy and I couldn''t believe that I waas a ble to watch amovie from start to finish without the C:13:00 or NO DISK nightmare. Thank you.

Strength:

I''ve learned never to buy another Sony product

Weakness:

It''s a Sony product

Where is the F402 fuse located? I''m trying Sonyhackers fix w/o success. I have the same problem as everyone else -- after 18 months w/o a problem, in the course of a day it went from "C13:00" to "No Disc"

Strength:

When working video quality is good.

Weakness:

See Review. Bad Build Quality. Unreliable. Loud. Slow response to buttons.

I have had my Sony DVP-S560D DVD player for about 1 year and seven months. I should state that this was my first DVD player purchase, but I was familiar with other players from other brands including Yamaha, Apex, Oritron, Pioneer, and even Sony''s Top of the Line player. I purchased the S560D because I wanted to get a higher quality unit (not entry level) and I wanted the 5.1 analog outputs. The 5.1 outputs became a non-issue about a month after I bought it because I purchased a DTS decoder and used the coax digital out then. At about the two month mark, I began to experience video glitches such as pauses, skips, and pixel crawl. I called Sony customer service and spoke with a representative that stated that it was probably a problem with my media. I found this kind of frustrating because I was primarily experiencing the problem with BRAND NEW DVD''s! The next time I was in Best Buy I spoke with the kid who worked the video dept. (who was more helpful and informed then the customer service rep at Sony). He told me many customers were complaining about several low level Sony units, and that the laser''s lenses'' had a propensity towards becoming dirty very fast. This would seem to explain my problem, so I thought if it got any worse I would buy a good lens cleaning kit. The problems presented themselves more readily with certain discs, and in my opinion it happened to be discs with lower bitrate or bigger variances in bitrate through the program, which could imply a laser tracking issue or software problem. This problem continually got worse and worse until one day at about 6 and 1/2 months I inserted a disc (DVD) and it said C13:00 on the screen. I called Sony after referring to my manual and discovering the Dirty Disc implication, and they told me my disc was dirty or scratched. I told him I was dealing with brand new discs and he seemed shocked. I then asked him to tell me how many people had been complaining about this particular unit since I had already been to audio review and found that I was not at all alone, he acted like it was the first he''d heard of it. I realized that these customer service rep''s are just kids and not necessarily technical support or even technically minded, but their level of knowledge and general stalwarting of any situation leaves a bad taste in my mouth and makes me not want to give Sony or any other large c

Found this on internet and passing it on "SONY RECALL PETITION" I am writing this message about my dvp-s360 and its vast problems, this applies to the sony dvp-s560 as well...as i have read we are all in the same boat which is why i have organized a group to do something about it, i want everyone to send me an email about their problem and contact info, just an email address or your name, redundancy is very effective, so if you think others have already written you still should definitely write...HERE IS THE EMAIL ADDRESS SONYRECALL@hotmail.com ...this address has been made to compile all the statements of each and everyone of you...enclose a contact address, or i will use the email address you send to me...i will compile all the emails about your problems with the dvp-s360/dvp-s560 and i am going to make a case out of this...all of these emails will be directly sent via registered mail to sony''s front office and we are definitely going to see results, i''ll see to it...let''s get these emails sent quickly so we can get this problem fixed asap...we can do it...send your name too and/or anything else you think will make OUR case stronger...thanks...somehow, everyone''s sony dvd players are resulting in c 13:00 and NO disc errors at around the same time...this is not by chance. Something must be done, let''s get together and make this work. Thanks.

Strength:

the picture is top notch

Weakness:

it wont play mp3,cd-w,it gets too hot sometimes, need a cooling system or something.

the dvd is great, the picture quality is excellent(better than all the other brands:_panasonic:blurry,lg sucked, samsung was awful!!) specially with that "dve" which makes the movies look sharper, but in spite of all that,my dvd died i just took it to the technician(cause its not reading any movies)and he told i ahve to replace the laser,i felt so stupid, all that money that ive saved now in the trash?.and its a region 4 dvd which means it just play poorly-made brazilian dvds. but anyway if i bought a new one i would still buy a sony, cause when the machine works is great!! chao pescao!!bye!

Strength:

Heavy use. Easy fix once you know what''s wrong!

Weakness:

Planned obsolescence! Seems like Sony could put out the word and garner some goodwill if they admitted that a quick fix would work vice $180+

Worked great for 16 months...then same problems with "no disc". Calibration routine wouldn''t work - error messages. Tried SoCalGreg''s solution below. Shorted the F402 fuse (it was blown...did NOT replace any other parts) and now it works like new again. Cost an hour of internet research and a couple drops of solder.
