Strength:

Remote Control, picture quality

Weakness:

Very slow to load. It doesn't work anymore.

The player worked pretty good for about 6 months. Then slowly got worse, and now I cannot even play a disc. It keeps giving me the C:13 error, which supposedly means the disc is dirty. I know that my disc is clean. I bought a lens cleaner and tried that with no luck. This thing slowly broke over time, like the laser is shot or something. You would think it would last at least a year! Bad Sony Bad! Maybe they'll recall the S360's!

Strength:

Sony

Weakness:

Durability

Broke down in approximately 10 months. Powersave mode stays on and cannot get the player to turn on. Price to repair (labor only b/c still under warranty for the parts) is only about $50 short of the current price for this player!

Strength:

Sony

Weakness:

Layer shift, faulty error codes.

Like everyone else has stated, the S360 doesn't not like "scratched" DVDs, and continues to have problems with the layer shift. Purchased in June 2000, had it repaired in December 2000, and now in July 2001, it's all happening again. C13 errors, not playing after layer shifts. I think it's time to hang this one up, and go buy another one.

Strength:

Low profile, Sony name

Weakness:

Stops playing in the middle of discs, skips, plays a DVD OK one time then has problems the next time played.

After about 9 months of "service" I am getting the C13:00 scratched disc on some brand new disc's. Yellow Submarine, which I have played 40-50 times on this machine (4 year old son's favorite movie) used to play all the time, now gets to the second side and freezes. No matter what is done, you can't get past that spot. Other discs now freeze, get 'digital", or skip; even factory fresh DVD's.

Like others had mentioned in this site, my player has started skipping and freezing after 11 months of use. Initially I thought it was 'cause of a broken DVD which I tried to play but after reading other comments in this forum, looks like it's a real problem with this DVD player. I've another DVD player(Raite-German make) which can play
DVDs without any problem that usually freeze in my Sony player. I recommend anyone not to buy this player.

Strength:

Good sound,slim.

Weakness:

Distorted picture, reliability, loud and stops working after about 9 months.

When i first got this player i thought it was Sonys best player yet. After a few weeks it began to skip and the player just became down right loud. After about 3 months it just died on me, every time i turned it on it just went back to standby. I took it back to Circuit City and when i FINALLY.. got it back it still didnt work. So i took it apart, messed around with it and then put it back together. After that it lasted me for almost a year. Though it refused to play some disc. But like the other reviewers said it just dies, and it did. It just kept telling me there was no disc.DO NOT GET THIS PLAYER!

Strength:

Quality playback

Weakness:

drive mechanism noise

I got my DVD player free from my local audio store. It was A superbowl promo that they were running; buy a 36 inch or larger tv and get a free s360dvp. Plus, I got the 50 dollar rebate from sony and in the box was a cetificate for 2 free dvds from columbia house. My first player broke after about 2 movies. I would turn it on and start playing a movie, the second video started to display on screen the dvd player would turn completely off(go back to stand by mode). I took it back and got a new one that has worked perfectly for the last couple months. I am very pleased with its performance except for the drive mechanism noise that takes about five or so minutes to disappear. A good dvd player for the price.

Strength:

Great price, great picture, great sound.

Weakness:

No complaints.

Play DVD's very well. Good picture. Sounds great when listening to Dave Matthews "Listener supported" DVD. Remote works well and controls on player itself work well. Can't find anything I dislike about this DVD player. I have not used it for CD's yet because I have a dedicated CD player. I can only hope it plays CD's as well as DVD's because I had hoped to take advantage of the better digital signal from the DVD player. No problem with soft picture or noise as stated in other reviews. Maybe I got lucky or they worked the bugs out?

Strength:

Easy setup, very cool color menus, excellent output jack (most that one would need S-VIDIO, digital outputs)

Weakness:

none that I have found so far

First of all, thanks to all who posted reviews about S360 to this web site. This helped me make my decision very easy. I have played DTS versions of MIB, JAWS and T2 using the S360 with my Yamaha 995 receiver. Have been very impressed with the sound and picture quality of this unit. My best feature is how the player remembers the last stop segment of the DVD and automatically resumes from the same spot by hitting play.

For price vs. feature ratio, this unit is a steal. Sony has done an excellent job...
