Strength:

The sony label on the player

Weakness:

after just under two years, the player does not read ANYTHING anymore

The player was fine for a while then last night i turned it on and it said NO DISC. i tried it with 6 or 7 different discs and it does the same thing...this is the same problem that the DVP S360 has. Sony does not back their products and it will cost over $100 to fix. It's a shame that such a supposed reputable company will not stand behind their products for more than 3 months. If I buy any audio or video product, i expect it to last at least a little more than 2 year. DO NOT BUY SONY DVD PLAYERS!!!!!

Strength:

Picture quality, ease of use, its a sony after all...

Weakness:

Lip-Synching when using RCA video outs to a VCR for recording, on/off 3-4 times before detecting a DVD at times

Overall its a great machine except the fact that I have that lip-synching problem especially when I hook up the dvd player to my VCR to record from dvd to a vhs tape..otherwise never seen the problem on normal playback..i would highly recommend this machine to future dvd buyers...i'm sony biased i love sony products except their receivers. I'm not a fan of their receivers.

I've had this DVD player for a little over a week. Even though I had read about the lip synch problem I decided to take a chance. Picture and sound
are great, separately. The problem is, they are definitely out of
synch on my player. When watching "Tomorrow Never Dies", the problem was
very annoying. If you stop the video and restart it, the problem goes
away for a while... The video and the sound were off by about 2 or
3 words. I consider this product basically unusable because of this.
I'm going to try a Pioneer model. All of them seem to have something
wrong. They better fix these issues if they want this media to take
off like VHS did.

I had watched with this unit about 6 movies rent from Netflix. I'd say themovie quality is great. While sometimes there is problem with images, after
I exammed the DVD I always found finger prints, dusts on the disk that
caused this. Once the disk is cleaned, there seems no problem at all.

This Sony DVD player has the lip-sync problem. When it works, which is about 95% of the time, the video and audio are excellent. The audio CD is also good but it will not play CD-R's at all.
Three times in the past 3 months I called Sony service, at 1-800-222-7669 and went through half a dozen voice mail choices. After waiting 10 minutes on hold you generally get a courteous person who will record or check your problem. Unfortuately, so far they are still working on a fix with no solution in sight.

It is disreputable to continue to market a product line with a known problem that directly impacts the unit's primary function. I am giving this product the lowest rating because of Sony's poor handling of the problem, and its impact on my viewing enjoyment.

Strength:

User friendly .. even my girlfriend know how to use it.

Weakness:

None yet.

I have Europian model of this DVD player / DVP-335 and I've had no problems at all. No sync problems or white dots. Matrix plays also Ok.

Only thing that bugs me is that you can't play burned cd-roms.

Player has been modified so I can watch US movies too (Fight Club for example).

I just thought that Europian opinion could have some value.

Strength:

Good features for the price.

Weakness:

none

No compatability problems with any DVDs, excellent range of features for the price. DVD Motor is very quiet. I generally use JVC audio/video products, but this Sony was a better deal.

I've heard all about the lip sync problems, but so far all quiet here. The pictures are crisp, and the audio sounds fantastic.. Best of all, the words match the lips... :-)

Strength:

Simple, compact and attractive design, DTS, DD, above average video

Weakness:

Potential for audio sync problems, no component video outs, average CD audio, short warranty period

When I tested this unit on my system, it performed competently. However, I was not overly impressed with its CD audio capabilities. The 330's bass output sounded somewhat boomy and imprecise. In addition, the midrange and highs were relatively flat.
I did not experience any audio sync problems when playing DVD's and the unit's video was crisp. Overall, the 330 is a competent unit that should please those looking for an affordable DVD/CD player (I payed $269 at Costco).
Nonetheless, I decided to go with the Marantz (at a substantially higher $689) because of its superior video and audio performance.
