Strength:

plays virtually everything

Weakness:

problems with newer DVDs, slow to load, subpar audio quality

Not a great player. Lots of features, but none of them really performs well. Anyway, that's what you can expect for the price (and the brand). Upgarded to harman kardon recently. No regrets.

I have had nothing but trouble with the m301 and the poor service. Samsung does NOT list a phone number any where on there web site contact # This player always has had trouble with DTS. when ever I want to watch a movie in dts I have to use my other dvd player a sony. I am waiting on samsung to respond to my request via email. since I have not found any other way to get help.

Strength:

Very good picture for the price. DVD players just keep getting cheaper - so, throw your lousy VCR away.

Weakness:

Bland CD sound (but what do you want for $140??? eh??). Lazy transport. If you enjoy waiting for your discs to load, this is the machine for you.

Pretty Good Picture and decent DVD sound on 5:1 soundtracks. CD sound is OK - nothing to write home about (saving up for a nice CD player is a must if you want anything beyond entry level quality).

Strength:

Video: a plethora of features: zoom, std. fit, on player jog control, onscreen subtitle/audio changer (can change them while watching the movie), picture seems good and reliable Audio: virtual 3D sound for those of us w/out home theaters Service: friendly and generally well-informed/helpful Remote: slick, joystick (handy if you you can handle it) Style: the silver really makes it look far more expensive than it actually was

Weakness:

Video: occasional pixelation, even w/ new dvds and when it was new Audio: low sound volume (surmountable but slight inconvienence) Remote: no rhyme or reason to its layout

A refreshing purchase. I believe that the Samsung DVD-M301 is a great DVD player for its price. It has virtual surround sound for stereo tvs, 2x and 4x zoom a zoom-to-fit function (really a novelty...too noticeable a distortion to make it watchable), etc. The overall quality of the picture/sound are good, but as I feel limited in my DVD experience I cannot speak to their relative quality among other DVD players. I have noticed occasional pixelation problems, though they don''t recurr at the same spot (minor consolation) and the sound volume is low...my tv volume has to be set kinda high for sound the way I like it. Customer service at Samsung is great, IMHO. I have never not gotten hold of a customer service rep and they seem relatively intelligent and helpful. I personally like the control. maybe it harkens back to my old Atari days...I don''t know...but I think that the joystick is a great way to manuever around onscreen displays. I must admit that the layout of the buttons on the remote makes little sense to me...I still can''t remember where things are sometimes b/c they''re not very intuitive. The remote feels rather solid and seems built to last. Overall, I would recommend this to another first-timer venturing into DVD. It has handled everything I could throw at it so far w/ only a few very minor glitches and no skipping. I''ve read that it''s also very reliable...here''s hoping.

Strength:

- Slim design - MP3 playback - Good audio Good for a budget shopper that doesn''t mind a few bumps in the road once in a while.

Weakness:

- Video drop and pixelation - Skipped on new DVDs - Remote is not desirable, poor layout - Slow loading of discs, both CD and DVD - Silver only available color Not for the enthusiast that asks a product to perform as expected, maybe disappointed.

I picked up this unit for the bedroom and figured that samsung has offered some quailty products for the budget buyer. First thing that bothered me was that its only offered in silver, I can get over that. Second, disc loading was very slow and for MP3 discs, sometimes painfully slow. The unit is very sleek and has a nice slim design but the remote looks like someone at Samsung gave it a once over and just wanted to get it out the door. The remote design is just terrible and not desirable at all. The video I was actually impressed with. The picture quality was very good but I too noticed some drop out. Fresh out of the box with a DVD, also new, I had skipping and pixelation. For the MP3 portion, disc loading was very slow but it did play all the discs I tried. I did not like the 8 character on-screen display though. Not sure why were limited to 8 characters to display but with that, I also did not find any detail or instructions in the manual about MP3 play back. There was a small bit in the front about compression (128 to 320) and multiple sessions (may have playback problems) on a disc, and thats it. Overall, this little pup is going back to the shop. I know its a second unit but who wants to watch white and black squares pop up and have the disc skip chapters while in bed.

Cheap one with a some useful function I want Handphone out put with vol control

Weakness:

I hate that remote ~ I hate the slow loading especially for MP3 I hate the Manual ~

This is my 3rd DVD. I buy this DVD for my bed room since my father take my Sony DVP-F21 back to Taiwan. 1st of all, I get to say I really like the MP3 decoder. Finally, I can listen to my MP3 collection. On one hand, I always believe that we get what we pay. Therefor I shouldn''t complain too much On the other hand~ this is really a terrible DVD player, slow loading, terrible remote, and I do believe they need to arrange their setup menu again. As CD player - it sounds not very clear. the music become very heavy and a lot of detail are missing compare to sony in the same syatem.

Strength:

Elegant Look, Nice color, Handy Remote...

Weakness:

NO SHUFFLE FEATURE, No MP3 support except for decoding

I loved this system at the first look. The
silver grey color is very impressive. The remote
is subtle and very handy. Its sound was excellent
with my Kenwood Audio decoder. I've connected audio
with the optical cord and video with s-video cord.
Audio is awesome and video is not bad.

The greatest disadvantage I found is, while
playing MP3. It does not play CD-RW. That is
forgivable. But it does not have a shuffle
feature in MP3. A CD-R can contain more than
200 songs. It does start from the beginning
everytime. I hardly hear 15 songs. When
I come back and play it I have to switch on the
TV and navigate to a particular song . This
is irritating. Always, sorts the mp3 files in
the alphabetical order.

Overall, this sytem could have given bit
more features for MP3 playback.

Strength:

Excellent picture, Has jog/shuttle wheel, Attractive appearance and Onscreen menu.

Weakness:

Random pattern of remote buttons. Almost like you are in control of a spaceship.

I am very impress with this product. I thought this player was at least $250 by appearance, but it just a mere &169. The remote and setup menu are easy to navigate. THe buttons on the remote are random though...The performance of M301 is very good. Great picture and sound! Samsung's product has never stood out for me. This DvD player is a significant improvement and a more-than-respectable player.
